I also noticed that you can’t place the cup holder accessory there as I was playing around with getting the hang of opening and closing the cart. Sometimes it would flip up and be fine but most of the time it got caught by the wheel somehow. Recommend putting it on one of the top button hooks.

it’sa bummer you had such a bad day with the cast overall.  I’m curious if you ever had similar days with your caddytek?

Can't say I've ever had the cart tip over in the Caddytek.  The bag has shifted sideways, but the bungie attachment system always held the bag and cart together.

I have 3.5+. I always remove the cup holder and store it in the storage compartment before folding it up. As for a XL cup holder, the Sun Mountain XL cup holder can be used. Sun Mountain has a few Clicgear compatible accessories.

The Push Cart mitts are great for winter golf, and, I would recommend them, if you play in cold weather. And, btw, the folded up Clicgear 3.5+ fits nicely in a Ikea Fratka large bag, if you want to keep the mess from you golf cart contained.

As for tipping over, it can happen for any push cart, especially, on moderate to severe side hills.

Kind of a negative day for the Clicgear 4.0 today.

  • My phone went into overheating auto shutdown mode being in the all black center console.  85° day so not ridiculous hot.
  • Cart tipped over twice on the course.  First time was pushing down a smallish sloped hill (maybe 10 feet).  Second time was when I was hitching a ride in a regular cart and pulling my push cart behind.  The top strap came undone on a bump and the whole thing went sideways.
  • And finally I noticed the beverage holder cannot be placed on the lower left side (looking down from behind) as it will hit the wheel when you fold the Clicgear up.

I'm still enjoying the push cart, but today was not the best day for it.

Wow! I haven't seen mine topple yet and it has had some opportunities. I have had the same thing happen to my phone in the console, though it was 100* so I didn't really think much of it... Thanks for sharing!

First On-course Impressions:

I have been able to get out three times between last week and this weekend, but this post is about my first time out. Overall, I was highly impressed with the Clicgear 4.0 on the course for the first time. The cart pushed as easily as expected, but it was a smoother push than my Bag Boy is. The brake worked great. There was room for everything I needed for the round  (although, on a 90+ degree day, an additional cupholder would’ve been nice) and it was an overall pleasant experience.

Starting with how it fit in the trunk; I feel like with my Bag Boy, I could hardly fit anything on the floor of my trunk other than the pushcart, golf bag and maybe shoes. This folds up to such a small footprint that I could easily fit another bag on the floor of the trunk before the need to start stacking items. More on this at a later date.

The next part had me cringing a bit: when I pulled the pushcart out of my trunk and had to lay the brand new looking wheels on the asphalt to open the cart. Thankfully, since I practiced quite a bit at home, the opening of the pushcart went quick and smooth and there was only a tiny mark on the wheel from when you need to step on it. Like others have mentioned, the most annoying part of cart setup was getting the straps out of the strap clips.

Speaking of the straps, the rubber straps performed wonderfully and kept my bag in position the entire round. I did have to tighten the bottom strap very tight to get the hooking mechanism to hold. I did the “runaway test,” but I couldn’t let go of it and ran down the hill with it. I was impressed with how smooth it was going down the hill and even when it hit the bump at the end, the bag stayed in place nicely. The bag would’ve been sideways on my Bag Boy after that hill.

Cart Setup:

As for my setup, the scorecard holder and pencil holder worked great. There are a couple of courses in the area that have booklets as scorecards and I’m not sure they would fit as nicely. So I’ll post a photo when I make it to one of those courses.

IMG_7947.jpeg.2d01e845b4733e224d1ad127845630f2.jpeg

I wasn’t sure what to put in the internal compartment, other than golf balls. I keep a few tees, divot repair tool, and a ball marker in my pocket and I’ve gotten in the habit of putting my wallet, keys, AirPods and pocket knife in my bag. So the only thing in the compartment for me was vice pro drip (red, white and blue) balls. I like to use my phone for hole overviews, scorekeeping and stats, so I kept it in the mesh basket area for easier access, but it did fit in the compartment, if you’re interested (iPhone 13 pro max).

IMG_7948.jpeg.0c8ac6081457286e19188601784fb8a3.jpeg

The standard, provided, cup holder treated me well the whole round, fitting my 20 oz camelback water bottle (pictured below) and then a Gatorade later in the round. I had no issues getting either bottle in or out of the cupholder with one hand during the round.

IMG_7949.jpeg.cdbe75f525efafdcf79bafbe8a024915.jpeg

The large basket was really nice to have and before I started the round the basket area ended up being a catch all for just about every item I wanted to put in/on the cart or my pockets (tees, balls, ball marker, divot fixer, phone, range finder, glove, putter cover). After I got settled and was able to get ready for the round I organized things a little more and ended up finding spots for everything. My rangefinder came with a case that has a belt loop on it. I tried putting it in several different spots and the best and most convenient spot I found was to use the strap clips (photo below). It stayed in place all round with no issues and was within arms reach at all times. I do think there should be a rangefinder holder accessory that could be attached.

IMG_7950.jpeg.376a9c8739a1ec71e6adc978fed8a9b5.jpeg

The other nice and somewhat unique thing about the basket was the velcro that lines the front of the basket. I ended up using the velcro on my glove and attached it to the velcro on the basket area (photo below). Since it was 90 degrees, my hands were getting pretty sweaty and I ended up taking my glove off after every shot. I was initially throwing the glove in the basket with my phone, but when I would take out my phone the glove would fall out or vice versa. It really worked great to have the velcro there and I recommend everyone give it a try.

First On-course Round Performance:

As far as performance goes, I was very impressed. As I mentioned above, the ride seemed very smooth compared to my Bag Boy. I have a feeling it’s because the straps hold firm and the bag holder mechanism in general is able to be adjusted to fit my bag perfectly. The adjustable height for the push handle is another thing that is very nice to have. The brake is in a very logical place and having the brake on the front wheel seemed to work better and more intuitively than my right rear wheel brake on the Bag Boy. I tested the brake on a very steep hill and the brake and tires gave me full confidence that it wasn’t going anywhere.

Now it’s time to put some rounds and miles on this cart! Looking forward to it!

Great thoughts here! I just discovered the glove on the Velcro yesterday! The big mesh basket is nice and I’ve been using it for my 32oz hydroflask. That leaves the cup holder open for any other miscellaneous beverage I may have on the course 😉

For my fourth test I wanted to compare the folding, unfolding, and overall size of the Clicgear to my Caddytek EZ.  As you can see from the below picture, the two carts are almost the exact same size when folded up.  I tried to take some measurements but everything came back within an inch or two.  No real advantage to either one here.

IMG_3853.jpg.f70c638a95d6d77b7fed7c03330b059c.jpg

We've already discussed the unfolding process a bit on the Clicgear and the six step process to unfold the cart (seven steps to fold it up!)  @jbern had the best graphic where the instructions don't flow naturally and are overly explained in multiple languages.

C6E95631-EFD9-4554-B2CA-4A8CB1B559AB.jpeg.6dfdd42035e066501f85321fdb1776ee.jpeg.075a50db2c3255a6a90e848c666746d4.jpeg

I timed how long it took me to set up each cart from my trunk.  The Caddytek came in at under 5 seconds while the Clicgear was 18 seconds and one pinched finger when I was trying to move too fast.  The Caddytek is essentially lift up the cart until it locks in place and then flip the wheel over to start moving.  The Clicgear is six steps of unlocking, stepping on the wheel, and moving parts.

Folding back up is a clear Caddytek win as well.  Press a single button and then flip the wheel over for storage.  I'll take two steps over seven anytime.

IMG_3874.jpg.b3499fda10e9b5f96c3db0a8bdc174e7.jpg

Not much else to write here other than to say Caddytek is the clear winner in the folding/unfolding comparison.  It's not that the Clicgear process is all that difficult, but Caddytek nails it with their lift and lock unfolding and single button folding process.

Currently 2-2 in comparison testing.  We're all tied up!

Great job and that hill you're pushing your ClicGear up looks like Mt Everest 😳  It'd take a good plow mule on steroids to drag my big butt up that sucker 🤪

It is quite steep but luckily not very long! Hills are tough no matter what but when I compare it to my old cart or pushing my kids stroller, it was much more manageable. I have one more very hilly course in the area that I want to test it on. That will be the full test!

Good thinking! I have a 32oz camelbak water bottle so maybe I’ll have to use that and put it in the mesh basket.
And the glove on the velcro was a round changer for me! Been using it since mid round that first round and it’s been perfect!

  • GolfSpy_APH changed the title to 2023 Forum Member Test - ClicGear 4.0 Cart

For the 5th test I wanted to take a closer look at the brake system for each cart.

The Caddytek EZ foot brake functions perfectly fine.  I've never had an issue where I lock the brake and the cart keeps moving along.  Where I have had issues is with the ease of unlocking, or forgetting to unlock it before pushing the cart again.  I've done that so many times that it actually started to snap off the wheel spokes that the brake locks into (2nd pic).  A simple switching of left and right wheels corrected the issue for now.

I'm also on my second brake pad because of excessive wear and tear.  Stomping on a device tends to do that.

IMG_3859.jpg.dc035b7430b06c290a5e9d87c8c64b8b.jpgthumbnail_IMG_3935.jpg.3e9301b9fe3ab4ec05e0b2b88af36697.jpg

The Clicgear 4.0 uses a hand brake system located just underneath the console.  The brake line snakes down underneath the frame to connect to the front wheel.  As previously discussed, the brake line hangs down fairly low and close to the ground.  I actually stepped on it a few times my first time out with the cart, but a simple zip tie corrected that issue.

thumbnail_IMG_3932.jpg.2d3cbe62b63b01e7e107c35c9cf024f9.jpgIMG_3846.jpg.527a638e353e4cafdb8c49e1dff17881.jpg

In my 5+ times out on the course I've only once forgotten to unlock the brake before moving on to my next shot.  Having it front and center makes it extremely easy to remember you have the cart locked in place.  There have been zero issues with the cart moving when the brake is locked.  Wear and tear should also be better since it's a simple flip/switch instead of stomping on it with my foot.

Overall the Clicgear is a clear winner here.  Both brakes do their jobs on the steepest of hills, but give me the hand brake over trying to reach the foot brake any day of the week.  It's easy to set, clearly visible before your next shot, and should hold up better over the long run.

After 5 tests I have the Clicgear up 3-2.  I'm hoping to test out the umbrella holder next but it's only rained once since we received the carts over a month ago.  If nothing else I'll try to test it out on a windy day just to see how well everything stays in place.

Ready Set Go Test:

Similar to @Bucky CC and his 4th head to head test, I wanted to see the difference between my BagBoy 3 step cart opening process versus the 6 step process for the Clicgear 4.0. I added straping my bag to the cart, since the strap mechanisms and materials are so vastly different. I'm calling it the ready set go test because it's how long it'll take me to get the stuff out of the car and headed to the clubhouse (but mostly because my son loves saying "ready, set, go!"). Below is the video:

In the video you can see that the BagBoy was much faster, as expected. The Clicgear 4.0 took 1 minute 13 seconds (a neighbor was walking by and commented on the air quality so maybe 1 minute 10 seconds would be more accurate). The BagBoy Express 240 took 36 seconds, twice as fast to get setup and be ready to go.

Given that the Clicgear took longer to setup and fold down, the benefits are in the trunk space it saves. I need to lay the BagBoy on its side to get it to fit in my trunk and you can see there there is hardly any trunk floor space left. If you pulled the driver out of a bag you could maybe get it to fit.

IMG_8085.jpeg.1825088e577f3e4642f6c953b3b9fc08.jpeg

With the Clicgear 4.0, I can easily fit another full set of clubs. The other day, I had the 4.0, two full size bags and a Sunday bag all on the floor of the trunk (I wish I would've taken a photo).

IMG_8086.jpeg.612686900d615b032200c8327b83a4dd.jpeg

When I'm not going to be golfing frequently, I can strap the Clicgear in the back left corner of the trunk area and have the rest of my trunk to do all the necessary life things. The BagBoy always seemed to take up too much room, so I would take it out after every use.

IMG_8087.jpeg.691d147af8c0985376ab112be645a5cb.jpeg

Even though the Clicgear 4.0 takes twice as long to set up as my old BagBoy, I can't say I'm upset about it given the trunk space savings and the on-course performance so far.

How long does it take to open/set up the ClicGear? The BagBoy Nitron takes less than 60 seconds to open and get the bag on/secured.

I’ll have to see just how fast I can set up my Nitron. Might be able to get it done closer to 30 seconds if I tried.

30 seconds is out of the question for the ClicGear, I think.  Unless it’s just me?
Well maybe if the rubber straps weren’t clipped and the bag mounts were open. I’ll try some things and do a speed run!

But in the grand scheme, an extra 30 seconds is nothing if the straps on the ClicGear outlast the Nitron.

I haven't done a timer on it but after a couple weeks of use I have found my process has sped up considerably. Somewhere in the 1-2 range depending on how much I'm hurrying. If the difference was that the clicgear took 5+ minutes then it would be a huge negative but overall the extra half minute to a minute is worth the quality and time saved on the golf course.

I would agree with this, the complete set for me takes about a minute and a half (maybe a little less). That is not much slower (if at all) than my set up with my old CaddyTek and I feel strongly that the Clicgear is set up to last longer and wear better than the Caddytek did. I would not choose not to buy the Clicgear based on setup time

Ditto.  Not a big deal at all with the speed.  Definitely slower than my Caddtek, but it's not a deal breaker at all.

Happy 4th everyone!  🇺🇸

I noticed Clicgear has the XL cup holders back in stock so I ordered that, the umbrella spacer (adds 1-2" of headroom), and the umbrella angle adjuster.  Also found a 20% discount code so the total was less than $50 with free shipping.

If the accessories arrive in the next week before my final review is up I'll add them in.  Otherwise I'll have periodic updates over the summer on how things are going.

For my 6th comparison test between the Caddytek EZ and the Clicgear 4.0 I wanted to talk about the umbrella holder.

The Caddytek comes with an adjustable umbrella holder that screws into the side of the main console.  The umbrella is secured with a clamp mechanism inside the tube, but as you can see from the second picture it's hard to get it perfectly upright.  It does not secure all that well and will tend to waver in windy conditions.  Overall it's an OK holder but I do find myself holding on to the umbrella as I'm pushing the cart to make sure it doesn't move around too much.

The clearance on from the ground to the lowest point of the open umbrella is 62".  I'm 6' tall (72" for anyone that hates math), so I do have to duck down to get under the umbrella.

IMG_3863.jpg.bc241e1a3753dfbd2e3fd18e5ab26210.jpgIMG_3873.jpg.88cd0554002cac00e82164035ceec0c2.jpg

The Clicgear 4.0 umbrella holder screws into the top of the handle and is fixed in place once secure.  If it's windy out during the rain you're out of luck and won't be able to adjust the angle of your coverage.  Clicgear sells an upgraded angled adjuster, but that will cost you an extra $35.

IMG_3864.jpg.0a8e29de25d0d3f584c2acd424cec1be.jpgimage.png.9759448a59df4b42a13e81a1f6686eea.png

The umbrella is secured with a silicone strap that wraps around the umbrella handle.  While I haven't had a chance to test this out in the rain yet, everything seems very secure and it's held up well on windy days in my yard.  As long as the strap doesn't lose it's elasticity over the years this seems like a better method than the Caddytek.

IMG_3866.jpg.6ae4684f861a852e989718a04665eb58.jpg

At first glance I thought this holder would provide more clearance than the Caddytek since it's on the top center of the console, but it comes in at the exact same 62".  Once again Clicgear offers an upgrade for this issue on their website, this time in the form of a spacer to add 1-2" of clearance from $11.  I ordered both accessories recently and will update once I receive them and test out on the course.

image.png.4931fa31f918ff4fcb525e69c27720ac.png

Overall it's hard to pick a winner for the umbrella holder category.  If the angle adjuster and the spacer came standard with the cart it would be a clear winner.  Having to spend an extra $46 to get the most out of something as simple as an umbrella holder seems like they went the thrifty route.

I'll rate this one as a tie.  Caddytek scores points for the adjustability of the holder, but Clicgear's seems to be more secure.  If the angle adjuster and spacer live up to my expectations this would be a victory for Clicgear.

Final score of my six tests:

Clicgear 4.0: 3 wins
Caddytek EZ: 2 wins
1 tie between them - could be another Clicgear victory with the extra accessories I ordered.

1 tie between them - could be another Clicgear victory with the extra accessories I ordered.

in your head-head comp are you taking points off for having to order accessories?

FWIW I had the same caddytek setup and just switched to the same clicgear but bought mine used and it didn't have the umbrella holder. 62" is five feet 2 inches - I don't know many male golfers that short. why do you think that they made it so short? wind force toppling the cart over? do you use your umbrella to create shade when it's hot out?

I didn't necessarily take points away for having to order accessories; my tests were comparisons for out of the box components for the Clicgear versus my old Caddytek cart.  I was planning on addressing the add-on accessory issue more during my final write-up coming in the next few days.

Keep in mind the 62" is from the ground to the lowest point of the umbrella.  There is just enough room inside the umbrella for me to stand up fully at six feet tall, but I do have to duck under first.  I never noticed a huge issue in the rain with the Caddytek as you tend to bend over a bit anyway while in motion pushing the cart.

I'm sure there are a multitude of factors that led to their umbrella holder placement.  Male and female average height, wind force against a holder that sticks up too high, the most stabile place on the cart is to attach the holder (center for Clicgear versus side of the Caddytek), and of course manufacturing cost.

I don't use it for the sun here in Wisconsin as we don't get too many extremely hot days.  Sun screen and a hat are my usual methods.

I'm glad you did the work on reviewing the umbrella holder. I personally, have never used an umbrella holder on the course so I'm not sure where to start or what to look for. However, that 62" clearance seems problematic for a lot of golfers. I am not too tall (roughly 73" or 6'1") but that would make the stock umbrella holder basically uncomfortable for me as I would have a significant duck to get under even with the "spacer" attachment. Even if the center of the umbrella is high enough for me to stand up I still don't feel like I could be comfortable there or enjoy not being able to see with the edges of the umbrella well below my eye level. That feels a bit wild to me!

MIDSUMMER REVIEW - Clicgear 4.0

I received my Clicgear in the first week of June and have had the opportunity to walk about 12-14 rounds with it. I will try to layout my thoughts and opinions on the various aspects of the cart as I go, but will undoubtedly miss some items. Regardless, I will be continuing to keep everyone posted with my thoughts on the Clicgear 4.0 as I go through the summer and into the early fall. I am going to grade the cart in 4 different categories: performance & functionality, set-up/tear-down, care, storage & accessories.

IMG_0458.jpeg.a50900cc90f45f1506dc01bf4cdd84cb.jpeg

Overall, I am pleased with the 4.0's performance. In terms of compactness, this cart excels. When folded up, it takes up very little space, allowing me to easily fit it alongside my friend's cart and our golf bags in the back of the car. No more hassle of rearranging everything like a game of Tetris! The only minor issue I encountered was that it has a tendency to unfold while in the storage position, but overall, the compactness of this cart is top-notch. In terms of functionality, the Clicgear 4.0 is pretty awesome I would say. Despite transitioning from a 4-wheel cart, I found this 3-wheel setup to be just as stable, if not more stable. Even on angulated courses, I couldn't manage to make it tip over or become unstable. The large wheels and the slight inward tilt of the back two wheels contribute to its excellent balance. Additionally, the cart rolls smoothly on both fairways and rough, and the brake works exceptionally well on grass, giving me confidence even on hilly terrain (also, hand brake >>> foot brake IMO). The strap system's adjustability is fantastic, allowing me to customize it to fit my bag and style perfectly. The rubber straps are a significant improvement over the elastic straps I've experienced in other carts. Another notable feature is that I was able to test putting a cart bag, specifically the Ping Traverse 2023, on the Clicgear 4.0. It fit easily and stayed securely on the cart throughout the round. In fact, I even met someone at my club who exclusively uses the Clicgear 4.0 with a cart bag and has had no issues. Overall, the performance and functionality of this cart deserves a pretty solid 22/25.

IMG_0451.jpeg.40c345df8a33a08d8693c4224619778d.jpeg

The set-up process initially posed a challenge, but after a few rounds, it became much simpler. The tear-down process is essentially the reverse of set-up, which helped me grasp the procedure quickly. There has been a lot of talk in this thread regarding the setup, so I won't beat the proverbial dead horse. But, I personally don't have an issue with it. The process is made 15-20 seconds longer for the Clicgear than my CaddyTek was and one set up it is much stronger feeling and my bag is more secure. When tearing down it is much of the same, a bit slower but ends up being more compact so no complaints for me. For its set-up, I would give it a perfect score of 25/25.

In terms of care, the Clicgear 4.0 maintains its fantastic appearance on the course. The silver color of the frame looks great, and the cart doesn't accumulate much debris in its tires and wheels, even when pushed through fresh grass clippings. Even in wet conditions, the tires stayed relatively clean, with minimal mud buildup. This cart is easy to care for, and it practically takes care of itself. I will also add that After 10-12 rounds, I did experience an issue where my cart started pulling significantly to the right. Fortunately, I was able to follow the instructions provided by Clicgear to correct it. However, if this is something that needs to be done regularly, every 10-12 rounds, it could become a bit tedious. It's worth keeping an eye on this aspect to ensure the cart maintains proper alignment. Another thing to note is that the inward angle of the back two wheels may cause the tires to wear out faster than other carts. However, Clicgear offers replacement wheels and tires on their website, even in different colors, so it's not a significant concern. I am considering adding the orange wheels to my cart, which are available for $22. In terms of care, I would rate it a 20/25

In terms of storage on the Clicgear 4.0 I have found it impressively spacious and functional. The main compartment below the handle  comfortably accommodates three golf balls, my phone, a rangefinder cleaning cloth, and even a snack. On exceptionally hot days, the net basket below the compartment serves as a makeshift cup holder for my larger water bottle, ensuring easy access to hydration throughout the round. On other days, I utilize the net basket to hold a small towel and my divot tool. However, I must point out a slight inconvenience with the design of the pencil holder. It is positioned on the right side, along with the tee holders, making it cumbersome to maneuver the pencil past the tees and into the holder. This seems like a design oversight that could have been easily avoided. Nevertheless, the scorecard holder itself is functional and of good quality. As for the standard cup holder, it took some time to adjust to it and loosen it up, but now it securely holds my 18oz Hydroflask bottle with ease. I wouldn't recommend placing anything larger in it, but for those occasions when I need additional storage, the mesh storage comes in handy. Again, you can buy an XL cupholder from Clicgear if needed, but other manufacturer's (such as CaddyTek) cupholders do not fit on the Clicgear 4.0. Clicgear offers a range of accessories that can be purchased separately to enhance the functionality of the cart. Some notable accessories available on their website include additional cup holders, umbrella holders, seat kits, cooler bags, GPS holders, and wheel covers. For me, I will be adding that cooler bag ASAP (or maybe creating my own make-shift bag). The availability of these accessories hasn't been great over the last 6 weeks but they did just restock most of these items! I'm giving the storage and accessories a rating of 21/25.

Overall, the Clicgear 4.0 golf push cart is a good choice. Its compactness, excellent functionality, and sturdy build make it a winner in my book. I highly recommend it to any golfer looking for a reliable and convenient push cart for their rounds.

Overall Midsummer grade: 88/100

At our league course, their rental push carts are Clicgear 4.0's. I forgot my pushcart one afternoon so rented one of theirs.  I will be curious to see what you guys think. I have an opinion on one aspect, but am going to wait and see if any of you share it.

So I've read most of the tester's comments so far and I'm curious what you guys think. I have a BigMax iQ+. Spec weight is 14.9 lbs. The Clicgear 4 is listed at 21 lbs. I noticed the difference immediately when I rented one. Has anybody else noticed the weight or do you even care?

I have to admit that I didn’t noticed the weight difference. My bag boy express weighed in at 15.5 lbs so the weight difference should be pretty noticeable. I’m guessing that the compact size and handle location (there are nice pickup locations for one or two hands when the Clicgear is folded) negated some of the weight difference in my head? I’m not really sure.

I’ll second this. I haven’t noticed the weight when moving it around or on the course. But, it does feel more sturdy when set up so I guess that’s where the weight is.
