I just bought one for my 7 year old son and I since it works with US kids golf bags down to 51” height (my sons size) and it works great. He started pga jr league last week and east for him to push up big hills and on any ground. The front hand brake works great. With it just being the front wheel, you can still maneuver if you tip up the front and turn to get out of way if you don’t take the brake off. The pouch is big enough to store multiple water bottles along with the water bottle holder. Quick access for extra balls in the compartment and easy for holding tees for my son. I keep mine in my pocket but it is handy to have a few already out. The straps are very sturdy and hold a stand bag very well. My son uses it virtually daily at our house since we have a very short 9 hole course set up for him to walk.

@GolfSpy MPR beat me to the punch and put out a great unboxing video so I’m going to share some photos and early thoughts. I just finished a 4 day tournament so it’ll be Tuesday before my cart will see some grass and I’ll be sure to provide my thoughts after that as well!

unboxing photos

I really like the look of the silver finish on the 4.0! Packaging was great, tight fit and well protected. My first attempt at unfolding and setting it up however, wasn’t so great. It took me a few minutes (felt like months) but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. On the plus side, the “tear-down” was very smooth and easy and I had it folded back up into storage position within 10 seconds. There’s also a very convenient handle for transport while folded.

Initial thoughts

one of my biggest takeaways off the bat is that there is SO much potential for accessories and attachments! Although it doesn’t include any attachments, I’m excited because unlike my CaddyTek I won’t have to pick and choose just a few accessories. There’s room for an attachment on the left side of the handle plus more capacity for two on the right. You can see the right on the photo above. There’s also an umbrella holder that attaches to the top of the handle that is included.
Other things to note, the size when folded is great! It folds up much core compact than my CaddyTek and looks nice as well! The wheel size is also unique as they are probably 1” bigger in diameter than the CaddyTek. One more thing! The Clicgear 4.0 has a latch that allows you to adjust the positioning of the top strap and can change angle and positioning (is moves the arm out from the body to allow the bag to sit more upright) to make sure your bag is EXACTLY where you want it!IMG_0422.jpeg.513df549fc41377cf3e0842d9f57c725.jpeg

I’ll definitely provide more insight on that and how it affects the ability to maneuver on the course very soon. That’s all for now!

That’s great to hear that it’s working out so well for your son! One complaint I have with my current push cart (bag boy express 240) is that the push handle is so high, my 5 year old didn’t like pushing it at all.

Also, note to self: put the cart on 2 wheels before pushing off so I don’t take one to the gut like @Bucky CC! Haha

Lastly, Is this 9 hole course on your property?!?!?

Great start, testers. I look forward to reading your reviews. My initial reaction is that this cart looks extremely similar to the Rovic RV1s, which I use. The companies are under the same umbrella, so that’s not terribly surprising. Enjoy those walking rounds!

First Impressions and Unboxing

First impression? Not sure who was most excited - my daughter, the dog or me. You should have seen how excited she got when my vice golf balls got delivered the day before (unfortunately less about the golf and more about hoping it's something for her😅). I didn't love that there was a hole in the top of the box, but who knows if that was a warehouse or delivery service thing. Thankfully there are cardboard holders/spacers at the top and bottom to keep the cart in good shape. I love that there are no tools needed and it comes nicely folded up and ready to go with standard plastic bag and then plastic wrap covering a decent amount of metal frame. Directions look like a lot but they list multiple languages under each picture to make it a one pager. Instructions are actually very straightforward and to the point.

Set-Up - The instructions are helpful but there is definitely a learning curve to setting it up. It's not the most intuitive process but I'm sure the more I use it, that it will become second nature. I guess this is the price you pay to get a cart like this to fold up as small as it does. My recommendations

  1. Watch a youtube video or two on it to make sure you are doing it correct
  2. Practice set-up a few times before taking it to the course. Don't want to start the round of flustered because you couldn't figure out the cart (thankfully I'm not speaking from personal experience here, but I did have this experience the first time I used my old shotscope v2)

Collapsing is more intuitive and straightforward, collapses quick and love how compact it gets.

Non-golf course impression - I'll be getting out to the course for a live round with it in the next couple days but my initial impressions of use:

  • Rolls smooth and super easy to get the bag in.
  • I love that the straps are rubber and not the nylon straps that are on my old pull cart. Much more forgiving and easy to adjust. I will be curious how these hold up with use over time, from stretching/sun and temp exposure/etc.
  • With the brake engaged it still slide a little bit but this is probably due have vinyl plank flooring, which these wheels aren't designed for.
  • I'm sure I will fill it up quick but love the storage section and basket. I already have a sleeve of the aforementioned vice golf balls in place and ready to go! My keys and waller don't fit great in the  valuables pouch on my golf bag, so at the very least the perfect spot for those
  • Having only used a two-wheel pull cart it is going to take some time to adjust to the size. The cart itself is so much bigger but can already tell the ease of use will be better and worth all the extra features.
  • Looked through clicgear's website and there are SO many accessory options. Can't wait to see how the cart functions to help me decide which accessories I will want to add - I do know I already want the xl cup holder, don't love how small the included holder is.

I wish I had a fancy unboxing video or cute pictures of my daughter and her dog to show (nicely done boys!), but the truth is I received my Clicgear 4.0 about 15 minutes before a scheduled tee time and wanted to take it out to the course.  On the bright side I did take a picture of the mess I left after it was opened:

thumbnail_IMG_3883.jpg.1eed24aefd5a411d422b9299fed637c7.jpg

I made a joke about the excessive detail behind the opening and folding instructions before, but it's really not that difficult once you try it out a few times.  I opened it up once at home and then figured it out on the fly in the golf course parking lot.

With minimal prep/practice the cart worked great my first time out on the course with it.  The cart rolled straight and true, and was just as easy to push as my Caddytek.  I guess the best compliment I can give about any first time use product is "it worked".

IMG_3843.jpg.1730694bb648113708857daec80d46e4.jpgIMG_3844.jpg.c2ee9abbf8401d6e62c4d09169b8732a.jpg

The only thing that concerned me out on the course is I noticed the brake cord hangs dangerously close to the ground.  I actually stepped on it once when I was using a towel to clean off a club.  I'm not sure if this will end up being an issue but I may add my own zip tie just in case.

IMG_3846.jpg.59db1b23001dd7c295e6519232c6a581.jpg

Quality wise everything seems top notch.  I'll get into more specific head to head comparisons with my Caddytek over the next few days/weeks, but for now I'm impressed with the level of detail on everything.  I'll simply say that it "feels" like a product worth $300 vs my old Caddytek that cost $99 at Costco if that makes any sense.  Don't worry though, I have a few ideas in mind to test things out; and one of them involves a ninja cat riding a unicorn spitting out flames.

And now for some glamour shots:

IMG_3876.jpg.cf9b3f23b80faadc2e2e02f092a7f31e.jpgIMG_3867.jpg.661bebeeb9594b46476a5354dd42755d.jpg

The console bin is pretty spacious.  A Crown Royal bag fits in perfectly to act as a valuables protector/pouch.  I usually keep the extra golf balls in my bag, but they do fit in nicely here as well.

I'll do a full review of the umbrella holder later on.  For now it seems to work well on a sunny day with no wind.

First trip to the course today!

image.png

Before loading up, I took a couple of pictures to compare the sizes of the ClicGear 4.0 to the Sun Mountain Reflex cart that it is replacing. As you can see from the pictures, they fold to comparable lengths, but the ClicGear's (very!) large wheels mean that it stands taller than the Reflex:

size-comp-2.jpg

size-comp-1.jpg

That said, I've found a way to get both carts and mine and Kirke's bags into the trunk of my Dart. Kirke enjoyed getting a cart upgrade to the Reflex; with a little convincing, we managed to make it work with his US Kids junior bag.

[In a future post, I'm going to gather up all the various-sized junior bags we have in our house (and there's a bunch of them) and see how many of them I can get to work on the ClicGear.]

A couple of a takeaways from the first round:

  • This is a professional piece of equipment. Nothing rattles, shakes, squeaks.
  • It's a pleasure to push. The best gear of this sort shows its quality by disappearing. It's like a good referee or umpire: if he's doing his job well, you don't even notice him. If you're thinking about your push cart during a round, you're probably not in the mindspace to play your best golf.
  • I'm not a big storage bin guy; I tend to just keep everything in my bag. But the bins weren't in the way, either.
  • I noticed the brake cord just like @Bucky CC; so far, unlike him, it hasn't caused any issues.
  • Mine had a slight pull to the right; looks like I'll get to work with (and review) the front wheel adjustment process!

I did get the chance to do one important test today:

First trip to the course today!

How far away is that water?  When it first came into view around the 18 second mark and the cart started moving towards it the video became a little more nerve-racking!

Edit: read the comments on Twitter and see that it wasn't really that close.  Still a good tease!

I had a break from work this afternoon so I decided to throw my bag on the cart and take a few pictures. Oh, and my buddy Winston wanted to be apart of the review!

I really like the look of the cart and appreciate the adjustability of the height of the handle. I’ll play with that a lot during the review process but so far I’m very happy! Except I need a beverage holder…

One final thing has me really excited for this test.  My father was diagnosed with kidney failure early last year.  A few of us went through the work up process over the summer and I ended up being a match.  October 12th, 2022 we went through with the transplant surgery.  Fast forward 8 months and everyone is doing fantastic. There are few things better than being outdoors, getting exercise with your family/friends, and having a beverage along for the ride.  Can't want to take the Clicgear out on the course!

Mate, you are truly my HERO!! I hope you and your father have many years and beers ahead!!

Placed an order this morning:

SmartSelect_20230613_074425_Chrome.jpg

I ordered more than I wanted, but I needed to get up to $49 to get free shipping. I only really wanted the cup holder and a single shoe brush, but I figured ordering a couple of replacement parts (especially the aforementioned [possible issue] brake cable) might make sense, especially if I can get the free shipping.

Is there anything specific that forum members want to see us test out on the Clicgear 4.0?  So far I have plans to discuss and compare with my Caddytek:

  • On course functionality/issues (ongoing)
  • Beverage holder (already written, will probably post tomorrow)
  • Brake system/design
  • Umbrella holder
  • Cart Storage
  • Strap system
  • Folding/unfolding/overall size

Also, can we get these No Laying Up shirts for everyone in the test?

I have a 4.0 and even the big beverage holder is #notsogood - the way they designed it is poor, IMHO. It 'swings' back and forth since it attaches on a round holder. My top heavy ice filled 32 oz cup was splashing water everywhere and swinging around like crazy.

wonder what you think about the net holder in front of the compartment with the door. It's big and handy and I use it for my rangefinder but I don't like having to reach across and my other cart had it under the handle which I thought was great.

also: would be curious (since there are so many) what additional accessories you would consider purchasing. @GolfSpy MPR has already got the shoe cleaner but wondering if there are other things you're thinking of. (personally I'm going to get the mittens for the winter/fall rounds)

Interesting. I got the ordinary size version. Typically, I'd be using it for coffee in the mornings, often with a sealed lid. I'll definitely report on my success (or lack thereof) with it.

UNBOXING:

I tried to do a top down unboxing to be different than the other great unboxing posts we have so far! Hopefully it turned out.

Unboxing impressions:

The initial impression of the 4.0 was incredible! I did not expect it to be so solid and the wheels to be as large as they are. My bag boy is a beast compared to my usual playing partners’ and some others I see around the course and this one seems just as solid or more solid.
Then I tried to open the cart. Let me preface this section by saying that I’m a HUGE proponent of directions and instructions (when I was a kid I would look through the entire Lego instructions before putting together the first piece). These instructions are really bad. First and foremost, they don’t follow the standard left to right, top to bottom rules of reading. It really threw me off.

C6E95631-EFD9-4554-B2CA-4A8CB1B559AB.jpeg.6dfdd42035e066501f85321fdb1776ee.jpeg

Secondly, it’s too busy with the multiple languages in the same place. The photos are pretty decent, but to follow the provided instructions properly you do need to look at the photos and read the text.

Thirdly, I was hoping the QR code in the corner of the instructions would take me right to the videos page. It does not. It took me to a grainy, unsecured website where the Clicgear 4.0 is not part of the library shown on the page. You can see on the screenshot below that it goes from the 3.5+ to the 6.0.

75D2190B-2AF6-492D-9ED7-57B8612D2E3D.jpeg.9d2d3a1a185980d5905af2510ced7caf.jpeg

In conclusion, as other testers have mentioned, you’re best option is to search YouTube for the folding and unfolding and get familiar with the process that way.

The all important first test: how well do beverages fit in the cupholder?  On the left: the standard beverage holder for the Clicgear 4.0.  On the right: a 5 year old Caddytek.

IMG_3881.jpg.8cb4d8e5425618a4c9ff1ff29326e8f0.jpg

Clicgear does offer an XL version for an upcharge of $15, but it's currently sold out on their website.  More on this in a bit.

First test, a standard 12 oz can.  Both cupholders hold it well with no issues at all.

thumbnail_IMG_3885.jpg.66422a26f387b5c832423e58e033165e.jpg

2nd test: Adding in a foam koozie.  This was extremely tight for the Clicgear, so much so that it probably wouldn't be practical out on the golf course.

thumbnail_IMG_3887.jpg.1c5dd295593deb3866baada74b780223.jpg

It fit much better on the Caddytek, but the cheap plastic also cracked at the top a few years ago so it has more give to it.  The Caddytek:

IMG_3882.jpg.5cb3a887022261071cf4ae706471fcf6.jpg

Moving on to the 16oz beverage.  Both hold it perfectly, which I guess is to be expected since the diameter of the cans is exactly the same as a 12 oz.  I just really wanted to show off a Fantasy Factory label since it's a ninja cat riding a unicorn spitting out flames.

thumbnail_IMG_3888.jpg.b08ac1408c6c26463d9b2b6f1dbfdbeb.jpg

I also tried to test my go to coffee mug for early morning rounds but it barely fit into the Clicgear holder.  It kept sliding up and wouldn't stay all the way down on it's own (that's why it was stuck in the pool cup holder since it wouldn't stand up on it's own).  Guess I'll have to slam my coffee at home before heading to the course.

thumbnail_IMG_3893.jpg.38f0e0acc329da43e8d5506584a75f80.jpg

Overall I would give a slight advantage to the Clicgear holder, mainly because the plastic isn't quite as thin as the Caddytek and should hold up better over time.   I also like the fact that there are multiple spots on the main console where you can attach the bev holder to.  With Caddytek you only get one choice.

The biggest downside here is you can't comfortably use anything outside of a standard water bottle or 12/16 oz can.  I would love to try out the XL cupholder but as stated earlier that's currently sold out online.  With so many people having larger Yetis, Hydro Flasks, and Stanley bottles, making the XL holder standard seems like the logical choice (or simply include both!).

Round 1: Slight advantage Clicgear for better predicted long term durability.

I actually did the same test with my CaddyTek cup holder and the Clicgear, and for me I give the edge to the CaddyTek. I don't often drink from a can or 16oz bottle on the course. I usually have an insulate yeti type cup or something from the club bar which comes in an angled 16oz cup that doesn't fit the Clicgear standard holder. I'll post some photos of this later!

I found that seltzer sized cans fit perfectly without stretching the cup holder at all. Also those ICE drinks in the tall skinny plastic bottles fit perfect. The yeti can holders and my yeti coffee mug were both a no go (maybe they would fit but I didn’t want to break it the first day)!

Looks like it's the point in the review process in which we talk cupholders. As I mentioned above, I ordered one, and I just realized this morning that the one I ordered already comes with the cart. When I pulled everything out of the bag, I laid aside what I thought was just the umbrella holder (I've never used those on any cart); I didn't realize that the umbrella holder was nested inside the cup holder.

So now I'll have two of the "ordinary" size cup holders. Hmm.

If you check the reviews on Clicgear's website for the "Plus" (which is actually the normal size), you'll find that they're (ahem) less than congratulatory. (I'm not quite sure how, as I scroll through the reviews, they average out to the 4-star rating at the top of the page.)

The critique, as mentioned from the guys above, is that the standard cup holder is really tight. For me, I'd be using it almost exclusively with (fairly large) coffee travel cups, so I think I'll want something bigger.

Thus, an experiment: one reviewer  on Clicgear's site mentioned modifying his, using hot water to mold it around a bigger cup. I think I might try this as well, either with hot water or (possibly) gently with a heat gun. So having two might not hurt me: one will be for the experiment.

I have a Clicgear XL cup holder attached to my Clicgear 3.0 for the last 4 years. I us it to hold a 40oz water bottle that's diameter measures 3 1/2 inches (standard aluminum can 2 1/2 inches). No problems at all with getting the bottle in and out of the holder for me and no issues with cracking or braking to this point. I see the XL having no issues holding a larger coffee tumbler or anything maybe up to 3 3/4-ish inches in diameter. Works great for me!

Above average on most scales. Enjoying the journey. Hacking it up daily.

I like the experiment approach! I’m thinking about 3D printing something that will hold my larger cups.
