ChuckZ
First I buy GolfPride grips which have a tendency to last longer than most brands. They hold up well if taken care of including cleaning with a mild liquid detergent and water and caddy towel. A light scrub brush gets the dirt and grim that accumulates. Let them air dry for a while before putting them back in bag. Wiping them off with a wet caddy towel during or after play helps also. ButchE
clean after every round.. however, I have witnessed golfers using clubs they haven't touched since they were put into the bag. talk about SMH....some of those clubheads had more grass than the fairway, so you KNOW the grips aren't cleaned. Zeros
I clean my clubs after each round with a brush and some Windex. I will usually give the grips a quick wipe with the same towel. I wonder if the Windex could damage the grips (rubber grips). Maybe I will switch to dish soap, per this thread. I was gifted some golf grip wipes, but I have not tried them yet. I like that grip cleaning brush too, I am going to order one of those. Woody83 and BKervin 2 Quote Link to comment

Because I clean them after each shot I do t need to clean the heads as often. Soft brush for the grooves too. Do not use metal side of brush if you have one for obvious reasons. My question is does anyone know of a cleaner or technique that helps keep the tackiness and feel of the grips on the new side? Is there a product or process to keep grips clean? Normal wear aside, especially on wedges, I'd really like to keep my grips as long as I can as I really don't want to keep spending money on new grips every time the irons start to slip a bit more. For argument's sake, I play Golf Pride Velvet grips on my Ping Irons and Titliest wedges For the GP Velvet grips I use a product called Bleche White; pick it up for about $4 in most auto supply stores. Outside (it's not a good idea to use this in the house) with grip pointed down, give the grip several good sprays to cover the grip base to top. With a soft bristle kitchen sink type brush I scrub the grip. No need to go nuts just give it a good gentle scrub. Rinse thoroughly with water, let dry. You do this once every 4-5 weeks and that set of grips will last you at least 2 seasons or until you find some other way to mess 'em up. Good luck. dlygrisse
Lots of good advice here. The biggest thing that makes some rubber compounds slick is UV rays. This is especially true on many GP grips. I find Lamkins stay tacky much longer. Keep your grips out of the sunlight as much as possible, in your bag not laying on the ground when practicing, and clean them. Kevin Kelley
I don’t use a glove and put in in a lot of range time so my grips get pretty dirty and sweaty here in Florida especially the summer. I use Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips on the woods and Tour Wrap on my Irons. I still clean them the same way my dad taught me years ago. I use a bucket of hot water with good dish soap like Ajax or Palmolive which are both good for cutting grease. I get a plastic scrub brush wet and soapy and scrub the grips with one hand while rotating the shaft with the other for about 30 seconds for each club. I then get the soap off of the grips with a towel that has been wet with COLD water and let the grips air dry for about 30 minutes. When I’m done cleaning the grips I use the same water to soak and clean the iron club heads and clean the woods and my hybrid by scrubbing the heads. I never submerge the woods or putter in the water because of the shaft adapter on the woods and the face insert on my Oddyssey putter. When I’m done and ready to play next the grips feel great.
