I have a good friend who is a retired sportswriter. He and his dad, also a sportswriter, would go cover the Masters, then the day after the tournament, they would have a lottery for media members and a lucky few would get to play the course. He won the lottery one year. Said TV just does not do it justice.

Of topic, but speaking of Masters, does anyone else start getting excited for it right about now? I put it on the office TV in the lobby all week and find myself sitting out there more than I should because it's just so damn beautiful. If they do it again this year, I am buying the "taste of the Master's" catering kit.

It’s Shinnecock Hills.

I’d compromise and play Maidstone, Fishers Island, National Golf Links or Friar’s head though

There are people who will tell you NGL is a better course than Shinnecock. I wouldn't mind either one, but the closest I've come to it is flying over Long Island on the way from JFK to Boston.

Without question my bucket list #1 is St. Andrew’s in Scotland. Number 2 or #1 in the US is Augusta National.

The nicest courses to date I have had the honor to play was the Reserve, in Stockton, CAIMG_2727.jpeg.31e8f1f5d676a7a1aa2fb0d1ff855dcd.jpeg second was the Pete Dye course in my home state of WV. Amazing course that used the natural landscape and a closed coal mine to creat a gorgeous and challenging course. #1 for me right now probably has to be Old Head of Kinsale in County Cork, Ireland. We were able to visit the clubhouse and eat lunch there on a 2022 trip with my family. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to tee it up there, but I hope to in the next few years!

I was at this lunch and am in the same camp. This is my #1 as of right now. I have a long list of bucket list courses but this tops it. The views are breathtaking in every direction and the fact that a lot of the course is bordered by cliffs makes it just that much more of a challenge. Here is a picture @Byrnzee and I snagged on the clubhouse deck overlooking the 18th.

Despite having travelled all over the world and having played at a few of the Top 100, ... it's Augusta National.

Titleist drive (TS1)., Callaway Epic Star 5wood; MAVRIK hybrids, Callaway irons, Ping Sand wedge and Vokey 60* wedge.  Still using my Wilson 8813 and am looking for a new putter.  My wife's bag is all Callaway.  I retired from the USAF after 30 years and 17 moves --loved my career.

I don't know if you watch YouTube, but the golf channel BustaJack did a series where they golfed in all 50 states. The Pete Dye Golf Club in WV was the highest ranked course from that series. The video on that course is incredible and they were blown away the whole round. I added it to my growing bucket list from that video!

It was amazing. The club pro at the time needed a club that my buddy had at his shop in Barboursville and he work out a trade for a free foursome round. All we had to pay was the fore-caddy.

Having played both several time I don’t agree but would play either of them on a moment’s notice. I would actually say my favorite of all the East end courses is Friar’s Head. The course is spectacular and the vibe of the place matches the course.

Since The Olde Course is too obvious, and Augusta is not an option for mere mortals, I’m going to go with something unique to this list and say Landmand in Nebraska. Think Sandhills (I was born and raised nearby) but accessible without being a member. I didn’t start playing golf much until I left the state. Now that I’m a single digit, I’d love to go back and play this gem!

Augusta National, Shinnecock, National Golf Links of America, Cypress Point and Sand Hills are at the top of my list, but not likely I'll ever get to play any of those. The #1 I have a reasonable shot at playing is Swinley Forest.

Played both, three days apart. Loved both. In between, I played Cruden Bay, which is another bucket-list course. And I only finished 11 holes at Cruden, so I need to go back and do the back nine.

BTW, if you're there at the same time I am, you're invited to join me at Fortrose & Rosemarkie, which is 45 miles from Dornoch. Very enjoyable James Braid design on a narrow peninsula (below). You will find Braid courses all over the UK; it's rumored he had no time to eat or sleep because he was designing so many courses.

Indeed it is. Both Banff springs and Jasper Park are Stanley Thompson designs and both rank in the top ten of courses in Canada. Needless to say, the majestic beauty of the Rockies is breathtaking and never grows old.
