Wedge lofts

Right now I play a mashup of wedge brands since I lost the PW (a 46 loft) to my iron set. I have a Callaway MD5 48 to replace the lost PW, a Taylormade Hi-Toe 56 and an old Accupro 60. Had a 52 but it was stolen. So I’m not loving the 8 degree gap between my 48 and 56.

Just found a great condition PW (again, 46) that matches my set. Also just bought a set of 3 MD5 wedges, which are 52, 56, 60.

So now I have a 46, 48, 52, 56, 60. My logic tells me to sell the 48 because 2 degrees between it and my 46 seems too close. But then I have a 6 degree gap between my 46 and 52. Also having trouble wanting to drop the 48 is because I love the way it feels and I’ve got really good with it. It’s the reason I decided to buy more MD5’s

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar dilemma and what you did about it?

Go hit each club and get carry distances.   Pick the wedges that provide the gapping that you need; this may not be an equal degree difference between clubs.

considering you own the options to be able to test the distances for each then I would do that and determine the best fit for the bottom of your bag. Pretty much what @cnosil said. I know some people that use a 46° PW from their set and a 46° specialty wedge because they go 2 different distances and it works for their gapping.

Another question is how many slots do you have for wedges? If it’s 3 I would bend the 46 to 47, the 52 to 51, and leave the 56 as is. If you have space for 4 wedges I would bend the 46 to 47, 52 to 51 and play the 56 and 60 as is. Gap tests should tell you what you need to do but I think the 48 is the odd man out.

I’m with @cnosil on this one. I play 43 PW, 48, 54, 58, and my gapping is around 10-15 yards between clubs. Works for me!

Repeat of what has been said.  Gap between the numbers on the clubs, don't really matter.  UNLESS they equate to a gap in HOW FAR YOU HIT THEM.

I had a gap at 125 yards, with lofts of 9i-40, PW-45, AW-50, and 56d.

When it was time for new clubs, I bought new clubs I made sure the lofts(as I calculated them), with the addition of a 4th wedge(eliminated 3H) would fill in the gap, and it worked for me.  9i-38.5, PW-43, AW-48, 52d, 56d.

Lastly, I am not sure if you love your 60?  Many find it difficult to full swing, and or chip, and pitch with, requiring such a hard swing to get any distance out of....but if you use it often then keep it.

It's about having around a 10 or so yard gap between full swing clubs, wedges included.
