Glad you asked about the bag!  As @Matumbo mentioned, the bag does not have fully length dividers except between the 3 rows, the center dividers are open from top to bottom. And as I've demonstrated in a video, the club grips binding against each other easily, and the shafts crossover side to side. This provides zero stability and they will bounce around easily, especially if carrying the bag.

 

Again, I am taking the approach to this test as if I was a total golf newb (which I practically am on some regards)

With that said, it has some great features to it, looks good, and is very light! Actually, The bag is lighter than the website claims too.

Sure it is lacking a few comfort features that easily could be added to enhance its appeal, but Stix is not in the bag business. It does have a towel ring,  which can double as a carabiner clip on spot too.

One thing to note, and it is just an assumption,  but I think this bag is designed from a standardized blueprint from the manufacturer.  It has several unused areas that I've seen used on other bags.  Best example I can show up close is the bottom.

It has an open slot for bags with a hidden leg spring option.  Also the inner support rods are not covered, so clubs are not protected  from impacting those directly. 

The bottom of the bag is a hard plastic, not rubberized. Given enough bouncing around in the back of a cart, and issues could potentially arise in the form of stress cracks.(also if you accidentally drop it from your trunk or truck bed)

I haven't tested out the "waterproof zipper"zipper"on the pockets.... yet!

Awesome insight! Agree, few bits of detail that appear to be missing that would elevate it from a "nice" bag to something much better. It looked good in the video of you carrying it and certainly the quick shot of it on the back of the cart so will be interested as to how it holds up over the testing period and how you find it. 

Love a good light bag for quick rounds / short courses but you don't want to jeopardise the clubs!

Video below goes through the clubs in the bag.  Initial impressions are that for a starter set, the clubs and bag are well made, great design and smooth black finish.

Also took a few swings with some of the clubs today.  Driver (swing in video below) felt great.  I hit it just as far as my regular driver.  Felt good in the hands, sound off the club face is good and ball flight was straight and long (for me).

Videos below of both the 9 iron and wedge.  And just like the driver, both felt solid in my hands.  Ball of the club face was smooth, crisp.  So far I'm hitting these clubs just as well as my Mizuno 225 Pros.

Next week I'll spend some time on the SIM hitting both my clubs and these clubs to see how each club compares.  Then I'll take them out on the course and play some rounds to see how do on course.

None of this should however, affect the performance capabilities .  That is still TBD !

 

I fully agree Rob.  Doesn't have the flair of a Titleist, Taylormade or Callaway...but for a starter set that is about 1/3 cost of what a full bag would be, they feel well built and look good.  As I point out in my videos, they really need to highlight (in white or red) the numbers on the clubs.  Hard to read without getting the right angle, especially when they are set in the bag, which has a black interior as well.

I think the hardest part for most to digest is the fact that these are in fact STARTER SETS.

 Are they steps above what you can find on amazon or other big box store offerings, compared to brands like TopFliteXL, Wilson Ultra, Strata, etc.?  I have no way to directly compare them without spending $400-600 on their starter sets.

Or are they comparable to big name brand starters at the same 899.00 price point, like Callaway Stratas or XR, etc?

It's just the beginning of the test, and have to say that once I can dial these in, I will have a better idea.

I'll definitely write up more about that and all the other clubs when I get some more opportunities with them! I was planning to get out today after work but of course all day long it's nice out, but downpours an hour before I plan to get out.

Let's talk about club weight today!

I tried a few different ways to weigh these with my food scale. I found laying them down across the balance point of the shaft to be the most accurate. 

Stix are black, Foremost are silver.

 

Considering my Foremost 551 clubs are steel shaft, and the Stix are Graphite, this is a considerable amount of weight difference.   Oddly enough, I thought that the upper irons would weigh more than the lower ones, due to being longer,  but its the low irons that weigh more.  

How will it translate to course play? I am interested if that being considerably lighter, these will give me increases in swing speed,  which will hopefully equate to better distances.

I can tell you that I am not used to the lighter feel of the Stix yet, and this will probably require me to rent out a sim bay to show factual data results vs just how they feel.

Just a quick blurb about the Stix Putter.

 

Playing 18 yesterday I enjoyed hitting the putter. I never felt any drop in confidence standing over the ball on the green.  The single red alignment on the top made it easy to center on the ball. The weight of the head gave me a very similar feel to the DB putter I game. 

Distance Control - having practiced a few times gave me enough feedback to adapt quickly to the way it performs.  I'm not disappointed at all with this putter! Minimal amount of force is needed to get it rolling,  which is probably attributed to the head weight.  The grip itself feels good in my hands.

The only downside is the backside. It has a flat sole, and scooping the ball up is tricky without any "wings" or " ball recess" to lock the ball in.

It does not have an adjustable weight system or inserts either, which I personally feel is not needed on this putter.

Heel strikes off the face are definitely firmer, and sound more "thunky" which I think is probably due to where the neck and shaft insert into the head.

The magnetic head cover is easily picked up off the ground simply by touching it anywhere with the putter.

I ordered a Compete driver on May 15 and I got an email from Stix on May 17 saying that it will be shipped this week. I didn't know it was a limited production of only 100.

I have the complete 14 club Perform set, with bag, already and I love the current, basic driver. Hopefully the Compete version is even better.

Hey fellow Spies!

 

Small update. 

 

TL/DR: Getting accustomed to the set. Really like the putter and trying to use wood/hybrid as I usually don’t use these regularly. Head covers come loose easily and I lost the hybrid cover on course. 

Ok, so I was finally able to get out there and get another round in with the STIX set. Keeping tally, that’s two Range Sessions and two rounds. I was able to get through 14 holes. It did not start off well. This was one of my worst rounds of late. Now, I do not blame these clubs for that, I just think it’s the learning curve of using new clubs generally. I was slicing the driver pretty consistently. That’s my usual miss, but although it was worse than it’ been lately, it wasn’t as bad as it’s been in the past. Then, about the 10th hole in, I figured it out! I know, I know - those words have probably been spoken by all of us golfers at one point or another, to only have the harsh reality of golf kick you down a peg or two. For the time being and the next few holes though, I did hit a couple of nice straight drives. These clubs really do perform.  

 

I am usually not a fairway wood or hybrid person. However, I have been taking these out for the sake testing them out when the time calls for it. I do feel that these are easy to hit and perform well. I still have trouble with them at times, but the misses seem to be a lot better. 

 

After figuring it out, the driver did perform, too. I hit some longer than I normally do. The sound is a bit different but not bad. It’s titanium so that’s to be expected. 

 

I had a couple of mishits with the wedge. I’ve really been working on my wedge game and it’s gotten a lot better. I haven’t had these kinds of misses with my current wedges. Still need to hit these some more. 

 

I’m a huge fan of the putter. The feel of it, the sound of it, the weight of it. I’m not completely sold on the look of it yet, but I’d take performance over looks any day. I feel very confident with the STIX putter. I hit some really good putts with it. 
 

I will note that the head covers are not the best. They are not secure on the woods and I actually ended up losing the hybrid cover. All of my current head covers either have some elastic to better secure them, or just generally fit tighter to prevent this. Hopefully someone will find it and turn it in to the pro shop. The hybrid cover specifically fell off a few times during this round. I caught it the first few times, but noticed it missing at some point later and didn’t see it close by. 

 

Despite my poor performance on the course today, I call it a success. I was able to get better accustomed to these clubs. I am confident in a couple of more rounds I’ll be able to perform better.

Good morning STIX followers,

Some surprising results from the SIM test this morning.  Hit only my 7 iron and compared my custom fit Mizuno 225 Pro to the off the shelf STIX 7 iron.  I hit 21 balls with each club, alternating 3 shots each time.  I was surprised to see that the STIX 7 Iron averaged almost 12 yards further than my Mizuno 7 iron and I was hitting it more accurately.  So far I've been impressed for how well this off the shelf set performs.  Like I've said in previous posts, they look good, feel solid in my hands and swing well.  For those just joining, I'm hitting the Perform steel/stiff shaft set from STIX golf.

On thing I notice on this picture is that the grooves for the STIX (black club) are much skinnier.  Don't know what difference that makes?  Have never really compared that to other clubs.

This accuracy percentage doesn't really paint the picture.  All of my 21 shots with both clubs were in the "fairway".  I tend to pull my irons slightly, so the majority of the shots were just to the left of the bullseye.  But as you'll see below, I averaged about 172 with my Mizuno 7 iron, while the STIX 7 iron averaged 184.  I had a higher ball flight with the STIX and they rolled out further.  I also flushed a couple to the 200 mark, which I can tell you I can't do that on the course with a 7 iron.  

This picture shows what we have been talking about on this forum about the numbering on the club.  The "7" is small and more forward, which makes it hard to see in the bag, especially with a black club and black bag.  @Rob Person said he took red ink/paint and colored in the numbers.  I think I'm going to do the same, although maybe white.

Looking forward to getting these out on the course.  Maybe one or two more SIM sessions with some different clubs (especially the driver) and then I'll be ready.  My home course just punched and sanded, so want to wait a week or two so that the course is in good shape and I can give them a fair review on the course.

The Mizuno 225 Pro is 30 degrees and the STIX is 28 degrees.  My Mizunos are also 2 degrees upright.

 I haven't painted the numbers yet. Debating which color to go with. Also, the Number placement really bugs me. Not sure even with paint fill it will be easier to see at a glance to pull a club.  Perhaps they can stamp the numbers in the back too would help.

I went with red paint, to match the color scheme they use. It does help but a more visible location for the number would be better.

How did it go? I'm curious if the heads are the same as the bag set heads, except with the ability to adjust the loft/lie!

my club swinging was off for the 9 holes.  Both woods and irons.  I'll call the 1st 9 hole test inconclusive. 

Next step is the driving range with the launch monitor.

Im kind of ticked, I had typed out this ongoing awesome review, and for some reason I hit submit and it disappeared. 

So here is the quick and dirty! 

Walked 18 yesterday with franken-cart . Also got an hour long range session in. 

Driver- it works really well, if you can make it work for you. I feel like I'm hitting it  about as well as the old burner2.0 I had previously. With no adjustments to the head, I found myself having to adjust by closing the face and opening my stance like I use to do. My titleist is adjustable and allows me to swing in what to me is more natural feeling when set right.  Even let a guy hit it yesterday and he was crushing it to 270+. So again, it's me, not the driver that has issues. Average tee distance was 220 yards, but did have one miracle drive that rolled out to 249 yards!

The irons are fantastic to hit,  and so easy to swing. Contact is very centered. I'm just not dialed into the extra 10-20 yard distance gains I'm getting!!! The ball height is also very controllable and has improved by at least 50% higher flight heights! (Mostly)

Wedges are very predictable with yardage, and again I'm hitting them longer than my regular clubs, but very happy with then!

60⁰, 3w and 4hy are my stars of the show though! 60⁰ I love this bounce, and have not had a high short lofted shot yet. Very easy to use it as a short chipper too! The 3w is great off a short tee, and getting 180-200+ yardage AND being able to hit the ball as a low cut or high draw is fantastic!  The 4hy is my favorite.  What a feeling to be able to hit a controlled shot shape ! I've never been able to do this before from the fairway.  I can hit a medium high draw,  and I can hit a low cut fade. (I also can get a nice straight shot that I call a "riser". It starts low and slowly lofts up up up!!!

Had some trouble with the putter yesterday,  but I'll chalk that up to walking, heat, fatigue, and walking!

I was only able to get 9 holes of video, almost 2 hours chopped to under 20 minutes.  (I removed alot of my hole descriptions,  distances, etc) got paired up with a group at the turn, so no video from that.
