I got in another round today and I just wasn't feeling the swing today.  I had some great iron shots and then some, I just looked around and said...... what the heck was that....

The height I am getting on these irons is blowing the Srixons out of the water.  I have struggled some on getting used to the new fit and weight.  I have felt like I have forced a few and I may call my fitter to just check on everything.  I have noticed that if I keep my tempo to a smoother pace, I am crushing the ball and seeing the right numbers.

Completely random aside - but I was just catching up on the Foreward fitting thread, so wanted to ask if you went with their prescription for these clubs, or rather (as I know you got fit via PXG) where the PXG's ended up vs. what Foreward was thinking for your setup.  I LOVE that you're getting the height out of these that you are, and I know that was something that you were interested in with the Foreward ones, as well, so curious about how close the setups are 🙂

Are the new shafts easy or hard to load and swing? Are you finding that you have to manipulate your hands to get the desired result?

I fell somewhere in between the Srixon and Foreward fittings. I let the PXG fitter do his thing. We discussed that fitting for a min or two but primarily focused on the fitting we were doing.

PXG - 1/2in long 1*flat D1 SW 75g stiff recoil shaft

Foreward - 1/2in long 3* flat D4 SW 110R steelfiber

Wow, some similarities and some very different. Interesting.

I wonder what would have the SW and shaft weight so different.

I think the fact that one are filled heads and the others are full forged. Weight differences in heads maybe....

True. But I'd think the SF110's would offset that a bit more. They're 35g more than the Darts, so I'd expect a bit closer SW still. But if the heads are way heavier than the PXG's are, that's very possibly the difference.

Been on a work trip to DC for a couple days. I'm flying back home tomorrow and have an 18-hole tee time for Friday..can't wait to get the Gen 7's back on the course!

I have to say, through my own experiences and being privy to what our other testers on the Gen 7 and Black Ops are experiencing, PXG's customer service is proving to be second to none. We're getting follow-ups from fitters asking for feedback, and that's just one example. I'll let each tester share their anecdotes in their own good time, but needless to say I'm impressed.  I'm definitely going to be looking at PXG for other spots in the bag in the future.

I fully agree with you on the excellent PXG customer service. I have been loyal to them since the beginning. The Hero’s Program is outstanding. I have only had great experiences with anyone from PXG. All their personnel seem to love their job and helping the customer!

Nice to see a lefty in the pool.

North of the 49th, lefties make up a significantly higher percentage of the golfing population than elsewhere (thanks, hockey!). I've seen estimates up to 27%, and based on the traffic in our store, that's probably not far off. Still, when you're entire country's population is less than California and you're covered in snow 5-6 months a year, that % isn't going to move the needle too much with manufacturers.

But sometimes it does sting seeing all that new RH only stuff every new product cycle.

I think this is one of the few metrics organizations look at. In our tiny town and surrounding tiny areas, customer service is near non-existent. Restaurant, grocery store, gas station, no one seems to care and know they are the consumers only choice. Go elsewhere, and the feeling is the polar opposite. It is amazing what good customer service can do for the product. Glad to hear PXG takes these things seriously after a fitting and want to make sure things went well.

What was the feedback session like and were there some changes or alterations y'all discussed over the phone?  Curious what that process would look/sound like.

Only takes 6g of difference in the head to make up 3 SW points, but that's assuming all other variables are equal, which they aren't with the different shafts. It's about 9g difference in shaft weight for 1 SW point. 35 gram difference would pretty much be that swing weight difference. I won't get into my rant against swing weight to begin with, but a 3 SW difference for the shaft difference alone is not unbelievable. PXG did have the option to increase the head weights to achieve a higher swing weight, but if you were hitting the D1 well, why mess with it, right?

Just caught up on the intros and first impressions and I have to say... these are right up there for my favorite looking irons. The only thing I'm not a fan of looks wise is the large, shiny PXG logo on the back of the irons. It is right on brand, though!

More catching up to do but keep the photos coming and keep up the great testing!

Well my wife just surprised me. She is on a work trip in San Diego. She went to the PXG store. PXG has my specs in the computer. So, she set up a FaceTime. We walked thru my details and I told them I wanted to move to graphite. I now have new black Gen 7 irons with MMT 105 shafts and black Sugar Daddy 54 and 58 degree wedges on their way. I received the Hero’s discount and the lucky 7 discount. What a surprise. Might just have to keep her after 41 years, ha ha

Wow, that is awesome! Congrats!

They load pretty well and when I am striking the ball well, it really flies.  I am having a little swing issue right now that is driving me crazy and working thru it.  Range and actual grass, I'm catching the ball clean but the dry fairways are collapsing when hitting.  I put a towel right behind the ball at the range mats so I know I am contacting ball first.

I am loving the height and stopping power that these irons have.  I know when I hit, that they are going to stop on the green no problem.

Great write-up's spies!  Sounds like everyone is digging their PXG's... no surprise.  I'm quite smitten with PXG as a company and their products.  I think they have really moved the needle on perception.  The early days of being viewed as an expensive, just a product to be seen with, are the rearview mirror IMO.  Their irons have always had a unique look and have grown on me as the years roll along. They are on my very short list of OEM's whose irons I've tested and compete with my ZX5's.

Thank you sir! Just an quick update… tomorrow is the day mine are scheduled to arrive!

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

I am loving the height and stopping power that these irons have.  I know when I hit, that they are going to stop on the green no problem.

That’s a great idea! I have the tendency to hit just behind the ball especially when I’m tired. I think when I do this I have this weird little squat as I go down to hit the ball and it absolutely kills me. Thanks for the tip!

You can't mistake a what type of shot you have when the towel is right there. The entire range knows when you don't hit ball first. Hahaha.

Another good tip. You’re full of them lol I’ll be sure to wear a brown sack over my head just in case.

@Josh Parker offered a great drill. I would only add that in addition to the towel behind the ball; place a tee 3 inches in front of the ball as well. This will train your swing to come in and through on the line.

Play like a champion today!

I put a towel right behind the ball at the range mats so I know I am contacting ball first.

Another way to do this without using a towel is to grab a bottle of chalk dust and put a line on the turf. Then put the ball on the line or a little in front of it. You shouldn't disturb the chalk line when making proper contact. I grabbed a bottle from Amazon and am going to give this a go myself as I tend to have a low point issue myself.

Another way to do this if you're swinging off a mat at home is to use small pieces of tape. Put one behind the ball, one under the ball, and one in front of the ball. The only one that should be "removed" from the turf is the one in front.
