GolfSpy WD
Doesn't do anything the MWT didn't do, except I guess it's more fine tunable. Didn't several research groups prove you'd need a significant amount of weight to actually make it work? ZenGolfer
My first thought was, "wow, looks like they copied Mizuno's Fasttrack technology!" too. Its kind of sad how the so-called leader in the golf industry simply recycles old technology all the time. Matt Saternus
No way this a Mizuno copy! The weights on the Mizuno go in a little arc, the TMAG goes in a straight line...duh! furu
So true Matt. In golf, a straight line is always better than an arc. Ergo - TM SLDR is better than Mizuno MP630.
RookieBlue7
Exactly what I was thinking about when I saw the SLDR. Is the weight heavy enough to make any difference? Very doubtful that there's enough weight to do much more than influence a placebo effect. That weight is smaller than the ones on the MC/MB/R11 lines and those at their heaviest were 14 grams (I had several sets of those weights at one time). Unless they made this from tungsten and it's thicker than it looks and is at least 25 grams, I don't see any feasible way that it'd truly influence ball flight much other than being placebo effect. That said, marketing is a hell of a drug (just like Whitney's cocaine). It should've been named TSTR for Toaster. Straight lines are way better: more scientifical, more aerodynamic...duh! (end sarcasm) That was a good design. Now it's in the hands of a company that can sell it. If it was raining wood sales, Mizuno would be holding an umbrella. Nothing wrong with being 2nd to market. It's the success story of everything. As much as everyone is happy that Cally is trying again, all it's done is make Godzilla pissed off. I promise you this--Cally was not prepared for Covert to be the best selling driver in the world this year (non Taylor Made division.) I hope Chip knows what he's doing or a great company is going to disappear. OptiForce, while asinine specs-wise, is really good. This thing? Um--different. So release the marketing hounds. furu
I've been thinking about this "stolen" idea. That Mizuno had it first. It's like RocketBladez and the Speed Pocket that turned out be from a Wilson iron from 1649. A concept done wrong in the past shouldn't prevent anyone from trying to do it right in the future. It looks different because this is a driver that Adams has been working on for over a year. revkev
Back to the slot on the rocketbladz I recall when Wilson had slot line irons in the 70's. I do agree with Furu there's nothing wrong with taking a technology and improving on it - so long as no laws are being broken. We have courts for that. I constantly am reading that driver technology has been maxed out for about three years or so - based on PGA driving distance stats that would seem to be correct - but we'll see I suppose. Hula Rock
Was at the Club yesterday working on my short game and the TMaG was there doing a Demo right next to the short game practice area. He walks over and asks "Would you like to Hit the new Taylormade SLDR Driver?" "why the Hell not" I reply.... Hit a few 6 irons to loosen up before hitting the SLDR. He asks me for the settings on my Nike Covert performance (10.5, right), Hands me a 10.5, 1 "Slide" to Fade. One thing that I notice immediately, the feel. 10 times better feeling at impact than the R1. Ball Flight a little high, so he hands me a 9.5 with the same Fade Bias setting. PIPE, PIPE, PIPE. Great feeling driver. As far as numbers are concerned, Very similar to my Covert but but the Spin was at avg 500 RPM lower with the Red Bomb, probably due to the Fuel Shaft in the Covert. RookieBlue7
I will say I looked at the SLDR last night as I was browsing the local PGA Tour store. I like the headshape and the color on the crown, except for the little silver plate near the rear of the head.
