revkev
When I was a young adult, before they had things like tee times at a muni and before my current occupation, I used to prep for a round by playing poker and drinking beer all night in the course parking lot. We'd normally be the 8th group off that way. After I became a Dad and then a Pastor I'd prep by going to the range. Once I turned 40 by stretching and going to the range and once I turned 50 by sometimes skipping the range and just stretching, hitting a few putts before teeing off. Now I prep like I'm going to have a colonoscopy. No alcohol the night before, up early, go for a walk and start loading in the liquids including one I can't stand. Lots of sunscreen and nothing to drink other than water until the back side. WEll at least I can still play and on occasion play well. hckymeyer
It all depends on when my wife lets me leave the house and what time it is. mizuno_lover
Here's something else for you then Rev and others that I would highly recommend. It's a "High Dose" magnesium powder with complex B group vitamins and trace minerals that you mix with water and is absolutely brilliant for muscles, brain function, focus and concentration and also recovery post round. Health World in the US apparently sells it. A Naturopath or a Doctor of natural medicine and or health food store should stock it. Here it is called Mag Opti Cell not sure of the US name. The difference it makes to my game when I use it is measureable and the clarity of thought and focus hence decision making is noticeable. It also sooths those sore muscles after the game. Not a delicious thing to drink but worth it. My wife is a naturopath. My Bag Driver: G25 Stiff shaft3 Wood: JPX 850 16 degree. PlaidJacket
I'm an early riser. Even on weekends. I normally try and get to the course an hour early. I like to ease into my day. No rushing if at all possible. I eat a light breakfast sometimes just consisting of a couple of boiled eggs and some yogurt. I drink two large cups of black coffee also. I usually get out on the patio and stretch a bit and swing my Orange Whip. My drive to the course is a short one of about 5-8 minutes. Once at the course I get myself situated and ready to play. I start by hitting short to mid-wedges and moving on through 8i,, 6i, driver. Afterwards I grab some water and go putt for 10 minutes or so. Afterwards it time to hit the first tee. I don't drink alcohol on the course. Only water with frequent snacks along the way. Mike Z
Intended prep: To bed at a reasonable hour; wake, stretch, shower. Have a light and leisurely breakfast and get to the course with 30 minutes before tee off. Get to range, stretch and hit enough balls with a mid iron to get the pain out and then hit a few more going through my usual routine then a few drivers and a few wedges. 3-4 putts to get the pace of the greens (which is an utter waste of time since the putting green is nothing like the actual greens) and then tee off. Lately, a couple advil and a bottle of water are also worked in somewhere before the first tee. Likely case prep: To bed whenever the fun has ended or my girlfriend's better decision-making wins over mine. Sometimes a cigar before bed. Wake up- hit snooze 3-4 times. Get up, quick breakfast, waste time (why DOES the clock run so fast on Saturday mornings, anyway?). Shower, get dressed and realize that I have 15 minutes to get to the tee. Drive to course, change shoes. In one fluid motion: grab a coffee, walk through pro shop, approach first tee, get driver from caddie, hit ball down first fairway, walk down fairway (I would have been last off the tee as most of the guys know I am getting there at 8:02 for an 8:05 tee time. Sunscreen and advil are done on 2nd tee. I play better with version 1 than 2 and I use version 1 more with tournaments. Though I have to admit that I get an unusually high percentage of pars on the first hole with version 1. Hard spending the time away from my family that I do, but it is all a means to an end. My family has a roof over their head, food on the table and money put away for college. I am very cognizant that I can't keep up this pace for the rest of my life, but if I take care of the financial side when I am relatively young then it gives me flexibility to be able to finish out my career with less stress and demands without the burden of needing a paycheck.
