Figured we may want to have this thread considering the fireworks that went on last year!

 

We all know Rickie Fowler took down the crown last year over Kevin Kisner in a playoff. Sergio made some noise to get into the playoff as well but exited early. Last years' finish may have been the best job of closing an event I've ever scene. It was impressive. 

 

So here we go, looks like scoring is easier this year with the lead at -9 after the first round. They still play this thing at TPC Sawgrass right? 

 

So lets have your thoughts and opinions on the unofficial 5th major!

For starters it's pretty clear that he loves Dye courses. I was very disappointed in the set up. The greens were ridiculously soft and the rough about 2 inches too soft. I could live with the short rough but the soft greens defeat the architect's design. I wish that I could play greens like those,

There was no wind for the morning round, it picked up a lot for the afternoon rounds, 10-12 mph. The course played much more difficult in the afternoon, we'll see what happens over the ne t couple days.

I'm still wondering about how soft the greens were. With the weather we have fast and firm should be easily obtainable.

They will roll out the greens and firm them up. Pretty much roasted the groundskeepers on Golf Channel for making it "too easy".

Well apparently they left the greens how they were for day one, because there are some guys tearing this course up on day 2. The mornings have been a huge advantage, could be interesting come the weekend.

Colt Knost has hit 18/18 greens on day 2 at the players, and theough17 he has 24 putts. = good score, and a 3 putt at 18 for course record tying 63. Doh.

Rory turned in 29 but sputtered on the front to shoot 64. Day is now at -10.

I'll admit: I really like the guy as a person and a player. BUUUTTT..... He's driving me nuts with his slow azz play and his constant chatter. Hit the ball, Sergio!

I was driving up from Central Oregon today listening to the play on Sirius XM. One announcer said that being #1 has given Day a lot of confidence to hit that chip. I guess that's my problem... confidence or lack thereof being #3,549,273 in the world.

Okay I will see some today almost none tomorrow because I plan on playing after church. I believe the Tour set the course up easy, way easier than you will see if you plump down your $400 in any given day. There is almost no rough where there would normally be 5 inches, in any given day! The greens are soft and rolling perfect.

 

I think they want to firmly establish the myth that the top players are as good as Tiger in his prime.

 

Regardless Jason Day is playing great golf. He'd be up by 3 or 4 any way you slice it.

 

I'm very disappointed in the course set up though. They won't be able to soften the new greens like this, trust me, I play in that grass a lot, it's firm, very firm and hardy, they will be able to shave it down and speed them up good.

This is the clearest example of course manipulation ever!  There is a killer subterranean  aerification system at Sawgrass.  Normally it is used in the weeks leading up to the tournament to insure that the greens are firm.

 

It clearly was not used this year - until last night - so now you have greens that are totally different from the first two days because the Tour didn't like the complaints about the greens.

 

Just set the course up fair to start - it always plays fast and firm with lots of thick rough so let it be that way.  This is like a Twilight Zone episode.

 

I hope Jax posts a couple of pics of the 14th green for us so that we can see just how dead the grass is.

They said the system hasn't been on all week. But I agree. Mother nature can't dry it out this quick imo.

The Lip Out Open is still entertaining. Those that can adjust mid round will survive. Those that keep bangin past the hole, will get a check still, but no trophy.

If it had started like this no big deal and if weather caused it that's beyond anyone's control. That wasn't the case though. As a fan it was fun to see how the guys adjusted throughout the round.

Yea I'm with you, it's different if it had been like this the whole time but it wasn't. From a fans standpoint I think it's kinda of amusing but from a players standpoint I would be mad as hell. This is how these dudes make a paycheck and someone is messing with that. Hopefully it's somewhat easier today.

With usual Sunday pins I don't see many under par today, unless green speed slowed down to at least 14 it'll be more of the same. And from the test putts I just saw on 17. It'll be more of the same today.

The greens are slower so it's much more managable. The wind is different though. I'm about to face the same thing. This is not our prevailing wind, I just hope that the Sea Breeze kicks in before we get to 15 today. If not the last 4 holes could be a blood bath. At my course not T PC.

This tourney is stupid. First the players kept saying the greens are to soft, so they met them firm up, and all they did is complain about how unfair it was, by everyone had the same conditions, so it was unfair for who? Now today they watered the crap out of them overnight and made them easier for the players, or was it so Day could win? My vote is for the latter, no way the tour wants anyone to win other than Day. He has played well this week, so has a lot of guys, he was lucky and had perfect conditions on Friday and Saturday and no one was going to catch up yesterday, so they make the course "gettable" for Sunday. I say they should have let it play difficult form the start and don't manipulate the course and players to get the outcome you want, let the course be what it is and that's tough, they made it too easy and regret it. Shame on the tour for this. It should have been massively hard from the start.

While I agree that the tour wants Day to win, being last out yesterday was not an advantage. The greens were in their worst shape of the day and didn't slow down plus firmed up.

If they wanted him uncatchable today, they should have left it miserably hard.

 

Personally I wouldn't have cared if it had been easy or hard. I just didn't like them messing with the golf course. Just leave it be.
