  1. After a brief offseason, the VCT is back!!!!! Buckle up buckaroos, we have some changes to the format. Here are the pertinent details: Start Date: 4-22-24 End Date: 10-6-24 The season will run 24 weeks for season 3, rather than a full calendar year, unlike season 2. End of Season Tournament: 10-14-24 through 11-3-24 For the offseason, we will still have a weekly leaderboard for those that live in year-round golfing climates, but the main competition for next off season will be a SIM league we are developing that will run through the winter months. Details to come. Format Change: We are instituting a Flight System, and will breakdown as follows: Flight I - + to 5 Flight II - 6 to 10 Flight III - 11 to 15 Flight IV - 16 to 20 Flight V - 21 to 25 Flight VI - 26+ How are the flights determined? To avoid any confusion regarding course handicaps or allegations of sandbaggery, with each round posted we will be asking for the following information: Member Name Course Name Gross Score Course Slope Course Rating # of Actual Eagles or Birdies Longest Drive Distance The gross score, slope, and rating will be added to a spread sheet each week and after week 5, each participant that submitted enough rounds will be given their VCT handicap and assigned to one of the flights above. Once the flights have been established, a scoring system will be used to give points to each member based on where their best score places them within their flight for the week. Also, there is a wrinkle I have decided to add: We will have in season Promotion and Relegation within the flights. Each golfer gets 2 passes, where they exceed their handicap i.e. a Flight III golfer shoots a PB 74, without consequence. After the 2 passes are used, a PB round of 74 would earn them a promotion to Flight II. Conversely, there will be 2 passes for blow-up rounds, after which a golfer will be relegated to a lower flight, i.e a Flight II golfer posts an 89, after using their 2 passes they would be relegated to Flight III. A fascinating sidebar to this will be watching members rise through the flights, as their games improve over the course of a season, so there will be a trophy room badge given in the EOS awards for the highest riser. There will also be weekly badges given in each flight for top finisher, # of actual birdies or better, and longest drive. However, we have done away with bonus points for the birdie or long drives. The points for the season will be based solely on finishing order within each flight. A points standings will be made available with the flight results each week. Caveat: We are still working with the developer on the getting the submission form the way we want it, so the first couple weeks may look similar to last season. I would ask that each score that is posted contain the course slope and rating. I will also accept combined 9 hole scores, as long as each nine has slope and course rating included. Lastly, welcome back! Let's make this the best season yet!!!!

  2. Good Friday morning! Working on some things at home today while we have a giant hole in the house. Door is being installed for the new deck and the rest of the family is heading to SandFest. Sucks I don't get to go, but we are all super excited about the new deck and family time we will spend on it. Rain forecasted all weekend so we will see if the weatherman is right. Have a great day and hopefully golf is in your forecast.

  4. So while I fully realize it is no longer even close to the morning, I'm still posting here today! Been a busy start to the day and about two hours ago my day got a WHOLE LOT BETTER! As I posted yesterday, I won a giveaway during Masters week for some amazing headcovers from CMC. I won those by making the correct selection of Scottie at -11, and then a random draw from those who had the same. I also won a giveaway from a small Lefties golf page for a hat and a glove, and just found out today that I won a COBRA Darkspeed Season Opener Edition Driver! I was one of three individuals to again pick Scottie at -11. Three golf balls were put into a bag with our names written on them and mine was pulled. To say I am ecstatic is an understatement! It's going to be such a good looking club that I think I'll have a hard time playing it, but that line of drivers has been so dang good that I'm going to have no choice but to give it a whirl. What a day!

  5. Good morning spies. A really long, tough past four days for my family. I lost my newborn nephew to a rare heart condition yesterday. A lot of time spent with family which was nice, but a really tough part few days. We were able to come to peace with the situation and are ready to move forward with our own lives. In golfing news, I was able to play 18 on Monday. Front nine was not great. Shot +4 on the front with some silly mistakes that cost some strokes. However, I bounced back and fired a -1 on the back for a final score of 75. Really happy with that score and how I played on the back. Hoping that's a sign for upcoming rounds. The weather is supposed to be really nice over the next week, so I'm hoping to get out and play a few more rounds. Won't complain about that! I hope we all have a wonderful Wednesday!

  7. Good morning, Spies! Keeping it brief. I overslept a bit; supposed to be on site for my event at 6:30 am. So I'm scrambling to get ready, and I'll have to get the valet to bring my car down soon (as far as I can tell, this place only has valet parking; one of the hazards of a downtown hotel, I suppose). I'll be on site about 12 hours and may or may not feel like a Fit For Golf workout afterward. Enjoy your Monday!

Golf later today the rain gods be willing. @CFreddie happy anniversary @Josh Parker new deck looks good @EasyPutter some of us were just a wee bit jealous of you golfing during the community call. Well done. @Jean D love your new setup, but yes don’t take out your projector with your driver. @Dead Solid Bogey keep your deadly sense of humour coming. Enjoyed by many. Message of the day

  11. Good morning and Happy Friday Spies! Taking off today and heading to camp with my wife (and no kiddos) for our anniversary. Looking forward to a quiet and relaxing weekend with her - hopefully avoiding technology as much as possible. Should be a beautiful weekend in the 60s here in Georgia. Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

  12. Good morning MGSpies from the calm before the rains start again early on this Friday in WNY where the coffee is almost ready and work computer is going onto the network from the zero commute to underground central where I'm having the same kind of start Jason @sirchunksalot had and I don't know why the delay in getting started either, but community call was awesome yesterday with holes 3 through 9 shared from my phone camera (just not so good on keeping up with all of the discussion but I manage) and today I'm going to have a new experience getting a club fitting, heard lots about them but my first so hold me down!! Hope golf is a part of your day too! 40

  13. Good morning Spies on a cool and wet Friday morning here in the Motor City. At work and will be another long day here for me, but those will be ending shortly. Supposed to be colder and cloudy on Saturday, so I may head to Carl's for their range facilities rather than the one closer to the house. Sunny on Sunday and about 50 degrees, so I will get a round in then. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something enjoyable may be in your plans.

  14. Coming off an impressive performance in the Best Driver of 2024 testing with MyGolfSpy, we had to get these drivers into the hands of our member testing community. The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond took home second place in the overall standings, and the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke D managed third place, being awarded Best for Distance. Callaway is no stranger to performing well in Most Wanted testing, but this year's performance is especially impressive, considering a total of 37 drivers were part of the testing, the most ever in Most Wanted history. About the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Series: The second generation of Paradym added a new Ai-optimized face, which Callaway calls micro deflections, aiding downrange accuracy. The Carbon Chassis is also 15% lighter than the original, helping Callaway redistribute weight into other areas, thus making the series more forgiving. The Paradym Ai Smoke series is also the first in several generations not to include Jailbreak. There are three core models in the Paradym Ai Smoke family: Max, Max D, and Triple Diamond. Max is the standard model and offers the most adjustability with a sliding weight at the back and an adjustable hosel. Max D is a draw bias driver with maximum forgiveness. It lacks movable weights but is adjustable through the Callaway Optifit hosel. Triple Diamond is the low spinning option, featuring adjustable front and back weights for spin optimization. It also includes a smaller profile for those who prefer that in a driver head. Please welcome and congratulate our testers! @Berg Ryman - Ai Smoke Max @TylorJudd - Ai Smoke Triple Diamond @RickM71 - Ai Smoke Triple Diamond @EasyPutter - Ai Smoke Max D @JAYER38 - Ai Smoke Max D

  15. Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful, cool morning and I'm just hanging out in my wife's car before work. Hopefully I'll find something out about mine today and I hope they find something as the warning went off before I got it towed. I don't want to be driving something that might mess up on me. I hope you all have a great day!

  16. Good morning everyone. Great weekend looping out at Arbor. Body is a little sore after back to back days hoofing a total of 12-15 miles around the course but it was expected being the first loops of the year. On an interesting note, I did find an interesting golf ball. There has to be thousands of lost balls around the course but this one stood out. It definitely been lost lost at least one season if not several. There was no getting it clean no matter how hard I tried. Looks like some from the podcast or main site made a trip to Arbor Links in the not so distant past. Or maybe just a fan of the podcast? Hope you get to feeling better soon @Josh Parker and I hope everyone has a great day ahead.

  17. Good morning Spies on a back to work Monday here in Michigan. NFL Draft later this week, so the downtown area buzzing with last minute preparations with items to be completed and some roads closed, and traffic re-routed to keep pedestrians free from harm. Did manage to get a round in yesterday, was a sunny day, but not as warm as normal. Will post in the How Did You Play thread later. Hope your day is the best it can be, and that something fun and enjoyable is in your plans.

  18. Good morning everyone! It's a bit cooler this morning than it has been and it's nice not to have some rain in the forecast. It was a good weekend since I was able to get out and play and while I didn't score well, it was awesome to be out on the course. I hope y'all have a great start to your week!

  19. Morning All, Scan went well yesterday. Obviously I won’t know anything until my doc has the images. Today I’m going to head to the golf store and see if they have any golf shafts to try in my driver. I finally need to get more golf balls as well nothing really going on today, which is much needed. Hope everyone has a great day.

  21. Morning All, Drinking some coffee and eating some breakfast this morning. Here in about 30 minutes I start my prep for my cat scan on my stomach and pelvis. I’ll probably going o tell me I am full of…all jokes aside, in Florida I was told I had diverticulosis. The docs here said the symptoms don’t point towards that at all. Like not even close. So away we go for that adventure. Later we are getting mulch for our house to help with numerous projects around the property. Hope everyone has a great day.

  22. Good morning all! Was cool and cloudy yesterday, but thankfully today should be a bit warmer as I get to out for my first round this afternoon. Also my brother-in-law should be stopping in today which was a nice surprise to find out about. He is usually pretty busy and lives about 2.5 hours away so visiting can be tough. Looking forward to a nice weekend, hopefully with some relaxation. Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

  23. Good morning spies and TGIF! Not much to report here, day of work followed by an away soccer match for my daughter. It will be a long day but totally worth it. My local golf retailer has their Spring Tent Sale this weekend so I’ll have to be sure to stop in and see if I NEED anything. I’d like to find a new pair of shoes and maybe some Vice Pro balls depending on what deals they have. Also need to look at hybrids for my wife. There, I have my shopping list ready Have a great day spies!

  24. Good morning everyone! I slightly overslept this morning and I didn't know why. I still made it in plenty of time since I get to work insanely early. 26. Community call with Aaron Luttrell from Titleist tonight! Super excited about that and for those looking there is another little surprise we dropped today (little early). Pumped to have Stix on board this week for member testing as they are a great brand that offers a different product. Not to mention a product that has been requested nearly more than any other. Full sets - big thanks to Stix and looking forward to see who signs up and ultimately how they perform!

  27. Good morning spies Not a great start to my day, the main feed pipe into the water tank is leaking Had to do a quick temporary fix so hoping it holds until I get home from work and am able to properly repair it. Although knowing my luck I’ll end up with a prisoner and not get finished til stupid o’clock. Anyway, the sun is out and there blue skies poking through the clouds so that’s a bonus. If only I was able to get out on the course Hope you all have a good day and @sirchunksalot gets the car sorted

  29. Good Monday morning everyone. This week is yet another 3 game week for my daughter’s high school team. I think that it’s wearing me out more than her. Today is an early one too with kickoff at 4:15 and it’s on the road. Need to leave work a little early to make that happen for me. Took the wife and daughter out for 9 holes yesterday and they both did ok. I saw them both making some gains and improving their ball striking. I actually heard my daughter admit that it was harder than it looks which made me laugh. Have a great day everyone.

    Tester

Definitely not random. We spend a good few hours each week as staff going through the short lists and applications to find the testers for each opportunity. You are right about being involved and getting engaged! Hey! First welcome to the forum. Always a good thing to have newer members asking questions. Most above have already stated the general things and glad you had a chance to read the How To Be A Tester Guide - took me hours to write that and get all the details in - so you know the basics. There was also a section there about why it isn't random and why we pick testers for each. We have the whole staff (8 of us) go through the names and put notes on who we like for each test, who has tested what before and for those that have tested prior look at their grades and notes on previous performance (which helps dictate what type of review they will get in the future). We always try to work at least one new member into each opportunity (50% of testers this season have been new). We come to a mutual agreement from the whole group to avoid an bias towards certain members etc. That said we won't ever do random selection. Just not how it works and we are pretty clear about that. My own opinion is random selections are for contests and giveaways, which member testing is definitely not. It is a ton of fun, but also a crap ton of work and our expectations are sky high for all our testers. The other part is because the forum staff generally are the ones procuring these opportunities it is important for us to make sure we get the most reliable people people for these reviews. We have sold companies on providing these products (for free) to our community with the expectation of several things. Good, honest and thorough reviews, active thread participation, newsletter inclusion and socials inclusion, proper final reviews that are on time and a member recap article among other things. This is all part of the deal when they agree to provide products for us and we want to make sure we hold up our end of the bargain. For us to do random selections means we get random results. What we look and ask for from all that want to be testers is pretty basic. Doesn't take much to do and as you have read and a little effort and time then you can essentially guarantee a selection.

  32. Good morning spies! Braving myself for a very cold round of golf this morning. I made the tee time earlier this week being optimistic that the weather would get warmer - sadly, Mother Nature had other ideas. Still will be great to get out and play for my first official round in Chicagoland for the year. Not much else planned for the day. Going to cook some steaks for the wife and me tonight, which is her compensation for letting me golf all morning. Might try to catch some of the golf on TV later. Have a great Saturday and hit 'em straight if you're hitting at all!

  33. Good morning Spies, A cool morning with rain forecasted for CNY. My cuppa is going down nicely. I ran 5 miles yesterday for the first time in over 35 years. Oh, then I needed a nap. Not much on tap for today. I will grout the tiles I replaced around the tub. @EnderinAZ glad to hear that your procedure went well. Wishing all a wonderful day!

  36. Good morning my spies… It is Friday the departure day to hopefully a destination weekend ahead for you all. Busy day for me yesterday. Got to play Randy Radical and rage at the man… The Tax Man… As we all know there is very limited positivity in having me live in my subdivision… I only come in handy to the neighborhood twice a year.. Yesterday was one of those times. The reappraisal people hit the neighborhood only to find me outside on my lawn shaking my fist at the sky and losing an argument with myself. Pretty sure that was quite possibly the deciding factor in pushing the tax people to decided in favor of the tax protest filed by myself and some neighbors…. We will see what the decision on my protest is today. In other news of the day; the wife person wants to leave today for our “ couple’s special time “ I was under the impression this was only suppose to be ONE day of hell. Evidently, her high highness has some side excursions planned before going to the big event.. By all that is merciful, hoping I am able to survive and join you all on Sunday evening. If not, take care of yourselves and remember…..Perspective my friends, perspective…… edited to add: Good luck to @EnderinAZ with the medical procedure.

  37. Morning one and all...still rainy and cool here in Ottawa. Today is hopefully "fix Jean's measuring mistake while putting up the projector for the sim" day. When measuring for projector placement, I *may* have forgotten to measure my driver swing...and finding out I come to withing 2" of the projector when I swing the boom stick. The result: moving the projector 3' closer to the screen today, just to be safe. 14'. With my best friend in a ladder (I have vertigo). But dang if GSPro + Optoma GT2100HDR + Carl's Premium hitting screen combo look incredible!

  42. Morning all! Had an early session at the indoor range today. The place was completely empty, so I suppose everyone’s playing outside today. On one hand, I feel like the wimp that couldn’t golf in 35°F weather. On the other hand, It’s cozy and warm in there. @sirchunksalot Ugh, what a terrible Monday. Hope you get your car fixed. Have a good one!

  43. Good chilly morning fellow Spies! Seems Father Winter is trying to make a comeback here in Maryland! Thankfully, not cold enough to stop golfing... We haven't even gotten out of April and had to cut the lawn for the 5th time already this year! NOT normal for us. Also had fun Friday night: around 0200 hours we start hearing beeping every 30 seconds from one of the upstairs bedrooms and from downstairs. Has to be batteries going dead in the smoke detectors, right? Well, the little red indicator on the units just says "alarm", so, I pulled them from the ceilings and figured I'd take care of them in the morning. Put in new batteries (which I had done already in November: why are they bad already?) and plugged everything back in and walked away. "BEEP".... what the heck. Pulled the units back down again to make sure I didn't put the batteries in backwards (I didn't), plugged them back in and stood there. "BEEP". What the %$#^$#!!! Pulled the units back down again and started looking at the back labels. "One beep every 30 seconds, units are past their serviceable life and need to be replaced." Great. So, I go on Amazon and look for the replacement to the model we have, order them around 1400 hours. Literally at 1730 hours, the Amazon truck shows up with the new units. Talk about fast! Sunday after golf, new units installed, no more beeping in the middle of the night and all is back to (semi) normal at the Steve F house! Speaking of golf, did get in 9 holes Sunday morning, not the greatest round but putting was actually better than normal. Funny, seems the Spider knows that there is another putter coming down the road apparently and doesn't want to leave the bag! I have to say again a humble and enthusiastic "Thank you" for the opportunity from MGS and L.A.B. Golf to be included with such a fantastic group to test the new DF3! ... albeit, I don't think the Spider is very happy!!! I hope everyone has an incredible start to the week and that golf is in your plans! Hit 'em straight gang!

Unfortunately it’s a duty day so no golf today @Rob Person great job on the wife chores, could you not just get a nice outdoor rug that she likes that could double as a putting mat? Or would that result in unfortunate consequences for you once she realised? Hope you all have a great day and manage to get out on the course

  47. Good morning MGS crew and happy Friday! Heading out for Vortex HQ at 8am and gonna need ALL the caffeine. Our oldest came down with another cold and was coughing all night last night. Not much sleep for my wife and I. Hoping the little guy feels okay today. Still sleeping as of now. The boys were supposed to go to my parents house tonight for a sleepover as my wife and I both have work conferences tomorrow. She is leaving today and me very early tomorrow. But if he’s still not doing well, my dad is gonna crash with us tonight so they can sleep at home. He’s had pneumonia in the past and it’s always come on the heels of a cold, so overnights when he’s sick always make me leery. Fingers crossed he’s doing better today. Hope you all have a great day!
