I don't know why you are trying to mock me... I still have my job. I spend lots of time with my family and dogs.... okay you got me at the alerts, and despite my skinny frame I do drink (coffee and water) and eat (a lot of mcdonalds) and my posts are extensive and loaded with meaning!

Wow - I struck a nerve (which is all you have left because you're skin and bones) 😉 I was actually describing an imaginaary person in my brain, but now that you mention it...you ARE here a lot 😉 Are we SURE the "wife and kids and dogs" are real, and not just made up out of whole cloth?

I love it. i've changed jobs recently too so i'm trying to walk more than cart (profile photo is of me slinging it) and I invested in a push cart for the more hilly courses that I play, but honestly whether its slinging it, pushing it, or carting with it, its just a fantastic piece of kit. My only gripe.... I need to get a golf towel that compliments it. my blue and neon green ones matched my old taylormade one really well, buttttttt.... lol its only money right

From experience, the Ghost Golf Towels are VERY high quality - they're not cheap (not a shock, I guess), but they're really, really good.  (MY only complaint is that they don't have a black/white combo - it's either two white or two black - what about gray? lol)

PS — Be on the lookout for the new ACCRA  “Shogun” shaft this spring. It’s ACCRA’s latest super-premium Japanese-manufactured shaft with allegedly the highest percentage of super high strength Toray prepared and tightest tolerances in the golf shaft industry.

Sounds like a testing opportunity.... lol.

I'm sure they're very reasonably priced, to boot 😉

With the Edel Array ordered, I thought I'd share some nuances of the fitting process that led to the order of the Array model I've got coming.  I'll do that over a series of posts, first sharing the rotation of gamers I've been working through over the past couple of years:

    Gamer Collage.png

From left to right in the pic, an Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Triple Wide, a LAB Mezz Max 1, and an Odyssey White Hot OG Double Wide.  Both Odyssey's are face-balanced and 35", and stock loft and lie.  The LAB is torque-balanced, 69 degree lie, 35".

I'll first throw out there, I tried the LAB frankly because it was all the rage.  If it works for Lucas Glover it must work for me, or something like that. I have also tried the DF whatever...the large pretzel branding iron thing.  I'm sure I am greatly offending LAB acolytes like @GolfSpy SAM, but I was unimpressed...I struggled mightily with speed control with the LAB (either model), and instead of my typical pull miss, I missed to the right.

As for the Odyssey's, I like them, and I like the feel of the insert.  But, I do tend to miss with a bit of a pull with both of them.  I have been convinced for years that I need a face-balanced putter based on my own feels and perceptions, and these two obviously fit the bill.  But, as I've already documented, I am not the best putter, and it's probably time for a change.  I'll post soon with some Stack Putting assessments demonstrating those struggles with these.

Love it! Lol - While I know for a fact that my pretzel branding iron has completely changed the way I look at putting (25 putts through 18 holes is...evidence enough), I can completely appreciate that it's not for everyone.  STOKED to see what the Edel does for your putting game, and you should probably bring that Tri-Hot to VA, as I rolled one in a pro shop and was super impressed with the feel of it.  I think it might help a little if the DF 2.1 thought it was in danger of getting the boot (it's not).  🙂

Also, and please take this with the grain of salt that comes by default with anything I say, I wonder if you missed right with the LAB (vs. your typical left miss) because you're used to lining up slightly left of target to compensate for your typical pull.  I find that to be pretty fascinating, just from a stats point of view.

Any idea when the Array will show up?

I threw a a random Tour velvet jumbo on my practice 8 iron and loved it so ventured into Roger Dunn to get some grips to do a full iron swap out.  Leaving my wedges as is for feel purposes.  I should mention that I was wearing flip flops specifically because I didn't want to test anything...  but while I was there.... Long story short I did some barefoot testing.

I found a gen 4 PXG 0311XF 3 wood for $99. The 0211 I currently have is easy to hit, but like the 0211 driver doesn't have much go.   Too spinny I think?   Because of this it's basically dead weight since it's distance total is not much more than a well struck 18 degree hybrid I already have in the bag.   After a bit of tweaking and a borrowed tensei blue (from a gen 6) I saw the numbers I was hoping for across multiple swings and pulled the trigger.  It seemed to be as easy to hit as the 0211 with more get up and go (along with more adjustability.).  I turned it down to 14.5° and mated it to a tensei CK orange I have which should send it a little beyond the yardage I'm hoping for. We'll see whether it performs out on the course.

Love it! Can't wait to see it - we can do a compare/contrast on the LTD X 3/5 wood I just picked up (see prior page).  🙂

  6. I have the OK from the significant other, I have the Maverick in my sights, and I feel the need...the need for (another) MGS Bag. Lol.

Okay, so not an exact quote from Top Gun, but obviously it's almost 100% correct.

Good GOD this is a crazy good deal! INCLUDING SHIPPING? Lol - I still can't get over that part.

Praying these are delivered before the VA outing - at least I'll look like I belong at a place like Kingsmill (before I hit a shot, that is) 😉

This article on the robot test with 3 woods is what I have personally experienced. The PXG Black Ops 3 wood I put in the bag with the Hzrdus Smoke Yellow X-Stiif 6.5 shaft has been outstanding. While I did not really gain any distance over the Gen 5, 3 wood the dispersion is superior. I don’t have any real big misses with this club. I can work it both ways and hit it dead straight. The ball jumps off the club and I can really go after it without fear. This is a great 3 wood for me!

I hit that at my PXG fitting, but only briefly, but that thing is a ROCKET.  My main concern was that it's built to be low-spin, and I'm already a low-spin player, but man I was surprised at just how easy it was to hit.  I actually just picked up a new 3/5 wood (see below post, lol) for a crazy good deal, but if they don't work out, I may end up back at a PXG fitting to do it right 😉

No .. not the same eye candy .. but his model of teaching has really helped me!!!

Nothing wrong with either of those choices 🙂 Though, I think I'd go Claire Hogle over Paige, as I far prefer Claire's swing. But now we're getting distracted.  Back glad you pulled us back to the main thread:

Max Homa’s swing looks so good to me. It has a consistent tempo and effortless power. I wished it produced better results on tour for him but that’s a discussion for a different thread 😂

How many tours can say they nearly killed a guy WHO WAS FILMING THEM? Huh? Exactly.
    image.png

Kidding aside, I'm a HUGE fan of his.  Even if he *might* be a murderer.

  10. I'm only dipping my toes in here, as I don't have much dog in this fight - I always wear a polo to golf, even if wearing a hoodie for warmth during the warmup, etc.  But most of that is, like most of you, born out of tradition and a desire to belong (my dad golfed, always wore a polo - it was like the "cool uniform" when he went to golf).

That being said, I'm a fat guy. Keeping my shirt tucked in is an exercise in exhaustion, and after re-tucking it in multiple times per round, I usually give up and just let it be.

The only shirt I have that STAYS tucked in is from Real Golfer (they ran a test on the forum last year, and I used a discount code on an already-low-cost polo), and when I got it, I thought it was a mistake - it looks like a dress when I put it on and don't tuck it in.  But I guess that's what I actually need (fabric down to my knees, lol) in order to keep it from untucking 😉

So, I guess what I'm saying, is be nice to a fat guy if you see his shirt untucked.  He's probably not doing it on purpose 🙂  If, however, he takes his shirt OFF, go have a little word with him about etiquette 😉

I would love to say more about my round but I am running out of time for the weekend haha.

It was a really good round! There were a lot of things I could have done differently. Way too many bogeys that should not have been.

However, there was a lot of good. I had some decent birdies, and the one eagle was on a par 4! That was epic. Out here hole 15 is a very short downhill par 4. The wind was also swirling so I had no idea what to hit. I took a 6 iron to be safe because going behind the hole would be a disaster. With the hard pan ground, we were playing on my usually normal 214-yard 6 iron went 280 yards! and I was about 15 - 20 feet for eagle. My putt was perfect and drip right into the hole for an epic eagle!

I do hope my score helps us out @GolfSpy SAM!

Nice work!  We covered each other pretty well - my 2 net-eagles definitely help (holes 2 and 6 for me), at the very least, which is about all I could hope for, lol.  I've got us tabulated as -8 for the round - no bogeys on the card which is pretty incredible, as well as three eagles and (thanks to you) 3 birdies.  While it MIGHT not be enough ( I haven't been keeping track of anyone else in our group), at least we made a strong showing!

Such a fun format! Good luck to everyone going forward!

I think swings like Knapp and going older Els and Couples look so smooth and something I guess I would like to emulate.  I guess  their swings are so appealing because they seem to have a slower tempo and  aren't aggressive  in the transitions. But I can't say I reference any PGA pro when working on my swing  I just want to find what works for me since we are all unique.

100%.  I can't say I'm actively trying to mimic any one person's swing - but the tempo of both Cole and Knapp, in particular this year, have really had an impact in my desire to FLOW in a similar way.  I had a nice moment at the range yesterday with driver where I changed my grip just a little and saw immediate results - and that, combined with trying to elongate my backswing had a really, really nice impact.  Curious to see if it's a change that will 'stick' - I'm definitely more curious than anyone else if we can find a permanent thing that keeps driver from being so hot/cold.

  13. Alright, so it's a BIT of a clickbaity title, I'll agree, as I'm not actually suggesting any of us 100% model our swing after one particular golfer.  However, there are definitely swings that I've seen that I WANT to emulate.  Lately, I've been most mesmerized by guys with incredible tempo and easy power; namely Jake Knapp and Eric Cole.  Their Unbelievably Smooth Power ("USP" - Trademark?) is incredible to watch, and at the range I've been trying to put a TINY percent of their swing into mine.  For me, it's mostly just a mental picture of their tempo, and then trying to swing that way within my own personal swing.

Who's got a swing that you've modeled part of your swing after? Anybody recent, or are you mostly looking at the Kings (Jack, Arnie, Tiger, Phil, Freddy, etc.)?

    Let me know!
