2014 Ping Ketsch

Today I played with a guy that's one of the regulars in our Saturday morning game. I've noticed lately that the uses a Ping Ketsch. I've always liked the look of the putter. Several times today I ask to take a look at his. Along the way he mentioned that a small shop in town had one left for sale at a good price. So after my round I headed straight there. Sure enough they had it. And... it was the 2014 model that was taken off the market by Ping due to a deep grooves issue. The shop also had all equipment marked down due to going out of business. (That's another story but sad to see. I like the guy that owns it.) Needless to say I snapped it up. The model I purchased has a small sticker on the shaft noting that this particular was setup if you have a "slight Arc" with your stroke. I do. I wasn't really in the market for a putter but what the heck. This one is supposed top be a good one. I also read the reviews on MGS blog and it is a winner of the most wanted mallet in 2014. I'm excited to give it a try tomorrow in a practice session.

Nice pick-up. My golf shop had 2 of the 2014 Ketsch putters since they came out until a few months ago when I noticed they were gone. I tried them, but I have never putted well with any Ping putter so I passed.

Hope it works out.

Nice pick up there Plaid.  I have that model in my collection and it is a great short putt putter, from memory it was the "Most Wanted inside 5ft" and that was what sparked me to buy it.  I break it out when I'm having a short putt problem.  At the moment it is in the sin bin for misbehaviour.  And there is the new kid on the block in my bag :)

I think the reason I bought it really is because I've been missing a lot inside of 5' lately. My old Odyssey  Wht. Ice #9 I've been so successful with the past few years has been letting me down this past month. I've had quite a few 3 putts which I used to brag about not ever happening. Had 2 yesterday! I'm heading out shortly while it's still cool and try out the new Ketsch on the putting green. Club Championship begins Friday so I need to get this issue behind me.

Follow-up results of first time with new Ketsch:

I had somewhat of a mixed bag this morning. What does that mean? For me it means that I can't report any improvement of measurable amounts. It might be due to the newness of the putter. Perhaps more than anything is "looks". Does any putter inspire confidence just by looking at it? I think so. Does the Ketsch do that for me? Not like I thought but it might take a little more practice. I recall the review last year by MGS which showed 5-footers made had an astounding MADE percentage. I didn't see that this morning. I've concluded I have an alignment issue. I think? I can't necessarily see anything different in my stance or grip. However, on 5-footers and some shorter ones I'm missing to the right. Not by much but way more than I ever have. I might say maybe, that the Ketsch seemed fine when I was lagging long putts. I've always prided myself as being a good consistent putter. Perhaps I'm just in a slump. It happens. I am a little worried since the club championship is coming up this next weekend. I'll get out a few times this week and work with the Ketsch some more. But if things don't get better quickly I'll go back to my Wht. Ice #9. Sometimes it's best to dance with one that brung ya.

Way to go Plaid!

I have the Ketsch with the "Straight Back" shaft.  I must say I really like the balance and weight of the putter.  I found mine on ebay for $140.......My current prob has been that I seem to be "pulling" my putts, so i am missing slightly on the left.  I plan on correcting this by trying to stand over the ball better.  This lifts my shoulders and allows a better straight back arc.  I seem to make the short putts better when I can remeber to do this.
