Weight Loss Thread

Had another PT session on Saturday and made it out to the course Sunday, which equates to a very sore me on Monday! I didn't feel too bad during the round, a little soreness started to creep into the arms on the back-9, but surprisingly, the back-9 is where I started playing better! The last two Monday's have definitely shown me how out of shape I am! Next PT session is this coming Saturday. Wonder what will be sore next Monday...

This time of year I would be researching golf resorts for a winter vacation out southwest. This year I've been researching health and fitness resorts that offer seminars-one on one-dedicated diet programs.Never knew they existed and am really tempted giving one a try.Its almost like I completely eliminated golf from all my thought processes now

Keep it in the short stuff

That's OK, everyone needs more than golf in their lives. Once you get into top shape you'll be able to get out there and kill it if you want. Your life is changing and that's cool.

Just like some get away to focus on golf for a week, you get away to focus on you for a week. Nothing wrong with that and I'm sure everyone here is cheering you on Big Money!

Hey all,

Just finding my way into this thread. I've always been one who has struggled with their weight and could never keep it off. So bad to the point that I recently was the heaviest I've ever been. At 5'11, I previously topped out at 236 with my lowest weight being 203. Recently I weighed myself and was up to 242.

Happy to report that, over the last 80 days I've lost 16 pounds and feel absolutely great. Still a long ways to go, but along with getting a grip on my exercising, I've also gotten much better with my nutrition. I still have the occasional pizza/burger, but gone are the days of fast food/processed food.

I'm happy with it. Had an eating plan. Never felt like I was eating too little. Also was all veggies, fruit, protein and some carbs. Then worked out 4 days/week. Just started round 2 today.

Exactly what I've been doing since February - it works and honestly I prefer that type of eating to the junk I was eating before!

I've decided that I'm going to go just a tad more - I wanted 168 - I'm at 167 - why not 165? Hagler's not fighting anymore so I'm safe as a Middle Weight. :)

My great uncle was the world light heavy weight champ in the 20's and 30's, Tommy Loughran. Look him up - he's a top 10 all time in that weight class - top 5 in some ranking.

I weighed myself at the very start of it, then told myself I wasn't stepping on the scale for 80 days. I found I got too caught up on the numbers instead of the process. Throughout it all I felt great and could feel the changes, and it was great to see the results.

I also agree with your statement on the nutrition. I used to eat junk food all the time. Now after eating clean for awhile, my body hates it when I have something greasy/processed. It's amazing how my body reacts/processes foods now. But I love it and I'm at the point like you where I just want to keep working hard and seeing where it takes me.

Wife’s birthday, my birthday and college roommates in town for the first time this fall plus playoff baseball.

I will try and avoid too much damage but there will be some. I’ll regroup Monday. :)

The wife and I pulled the trigger and joined a gym. I have an appointment later this week with an instructor to put together a 3 month program that matches my goals, limitations, and preferences. Something tells me sitting in the locker room eating chips and watching TV won't be part of the program.

I'm the same - I generally hate working out in a gym environment. My daughter has gone to this gym for a couple years and she says it is basically empty after 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening, so that's when I plan on going.

In the past, I stayed in shape by playing sports (basketball, tennis, softball) but I have come to the realization that I can't really do that very effectively any more so I need something else.

I used to do that when I boxed,

after classes,

this after running in the morning,

before classes,

and then it was to the library for my academic assignments in the evening.

Not a lot of time for fun, but I made the most of the time I could find.

After graduation, of course, there was basic training where I had to witness non-athletes

put through horrific physical regimens which were hard even for me.

Some people continued to do that stuff voluntarily later in life and called it "physical fitness."

Once I came home, I decided to label it "self abuse."

Same thing with dieting, too.

I lived this long.

I'm already too old to die young,

so I guess that it worked out.

Haven’t been able to do much at the gym with the knee and shoulder acting up.
Got a few shoulder X-Rays today and then a cortisone shot. Got to start shoulder PT soon.
Also updated knee X-Rays. No big change so getting it scoped as soon as we set a date.
Not ready for the replacement yet.
