I'm second guessing whether I actually like the sound or not now. Color scheme is one thing. The bottom design neither helps nor hurts my impression of the club, and Callaway does offer the custom program for those who are vehemently again the colors. The crown, which is really all you see over and over again, is downright gorgeous. 1 hour ago, GolfSpy Stroker said: ...well, tbh, everything sounds better in paradise...I mean Hawaii. but seriously - can you feel when you hit one in the sweet spot? The driver is forgiving off the sweet spot, but you can still feel where the mishits are. On the sweet spot it felt so effortless and just rocket-launched the ball out there. Similar to the feeling off the face of the Mizzys -- you don't really feel anything at all it's just buttery soft. sirchunksalot
...well, tbh, everything sounds better in paradise...I mean Hawaii. but seriously - can you feel when you hit one in the sweet spot? What is this sweet spot and how can I find it? All kidding aside, Callaway did a great job on dialing in the feel. It took me a couple of sessions to get used to, but it's not too bad. To me it feels just a tad bit firmer than I'm used to, but I really love the feeling the trampoline effect that the Ping G400 LST has. It's like the ball is hitting a marshmallow. I think having the jailbreak tech in the Callaway just gives it a different sort of vibe, but it's growing on me. It's raining here and fifty degrees, so today was a good day just to give the clubs a good scrubbing and play with the adjustments on the Sub Zero. I'm curious to see how the draw setting on the Opitfit hosel will change my flight. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warmer and that sounds like a good day to hit the range. edingc
Snuck out after chores this afternoon for a quick nine at the same course I played last weekend. I'm going to leave this nugget from my Stage 1 here because it's really relevant today: On 4/9/2019 at 1:24 PM, edingc said: I lack confidence in the driver and it shows in my erratic results with it on the course. Because of the snow and rain this week I hadn't swung a club at all before heading to the course and it showed, especially with the driver. And it's almost all confidence based. Mentality is a big challenge that I need to overcome. But here's the ugly truth in all of its glory. I hit five drives today: 186, 187, 202, 205 and 207 yards. Ouch. I hit two huge slices to open the round, so this marks the first time I made this club go right. Certainly not the club. I hit a five iron 197 yards later in the round and finished with a solid for me 44 (+8). Just need some more practice to gain more confidence. My best effort, middle of the fairway and straight is below. Hit my approach to the back fringe and used the putter from there to finish with a solid par. Couple thoughts: The sound is OK. I keep going back and forth trying to decide if it's a metallic sound or more of a crack like @yungkory described. The align grip is really growing on me. Club naturally falls into the right alignment with the hands without any effort. I had initially thought about replacing the grip but I'm sticking with it for sure now. sirchunksalot, JohnSmalls, THEZIPR23 and 2 others 5 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. sirchunksalot
I'll agree with@yungkory, this driver is forgiving when you hit it in the heel. I remembered I've had a can of foot spray in the trunk of my car for a couple of months and finally decided to bring it out. I didn't get a photo of my first few hits, but every one of them were heel shots and they flew pretty straight. After wiping it off I did take a photo of the second attempt after adjusting in order to actually hit more toward the center. Spray powder is very humbling, but I did find I tend to hit high on the face and favor the heel. After reducing my forward sway, I did see better ball striking. Now I've got to work on my over the top move to reduce my left to right flight. P.S. When you do hit it good, this thing launches the golf ball. THEZIPR23
I snuck out for an early morning range session yesterday before the family festivities started. I wanted to test the sliding weight and how much difference I saw in ball flight. No LM so don't have the hard numbers but what I can tell you, for my swing, the weight REALLY moves the ball around. Even subtle adjustments on the track are a visible difference. This gives everyone the ability to manage ball flight for their swing. Really impressed by the differences. P.S. Sorry to the range boys having to pick up balls 60 yards left of the range. Popular Post edingc
Keeping with the impact mark trend, today's range session saw me hitting the lower half of the driver: Consistently around 96-100 MPH, 225-240 carry according to my Swing Caddie. I did play with the sliding weight today, moving it about halfway between center and draw positions. I do not draw the driver typically, but on a few of my better swings after moving the weight I managed a nice baby draw. Something to continue to play with as I also work on the swing. Since sound has been a huge focal point in this thread, I attempted to capture it on video as best as I can. I brought all of the drivers in my house along to the range today to hopefully give a better illustration of the sound. The Epic Flash is definitely more of a muted crack than a metallic sound. Both Cobra drivers in my video above are definitely more metallic, and the Ti Bubble 2 from the late 90s sounds like I'm hitting metal on metal! I didn't take many swings with the other drivers, but all indications show several more yards carry distance with the Epic Flash as well. What else would everyone like to see? As far as working the ball, yes you can get it to move both ways, however it is very small movements. 10-15 yards is the max I have seen, and it is work to get it to move that much. Majority is around the 3-5 yard mark. THEZIPR23
One of the things that is important to me is having a club that I can trust in a tournament. My miss has always been left and when the pressure ratchets up the misses creep up more. Well I can say without a doubt that I can trust the Epic Flash Sub Zero (I think I need a nickname for her. Will take all suggestions). Playing in a tournament last Friday at a Del Monte, an old school golf course. Most fairways are about 25 yards wide, so it is very tight. I didn't hit a lot of fairways but I was able to pick a spot and hit the driver directly on the line I was looking. I hit 6 of the 13 drivers within 5 yards of my target. I will take that in any round let alone a tournament round. BUT the most impressive thing to me was the 9th hole. 524 yard par 5 that doglegs right on the second shot. There are trees that block the right side of the hole so the best place to hit it is down the left side which gives you a chance to hit the green in two. The problem is that the left side of the fairway is about 10 yards from OB. Stepped up to the tee and picked a tree on left side fairway took dead aim and hit it. Ball starts right at the tree and I am thinking oh s&%T its gone, except it wasn't. It started directly at the tree and came down on the same line. I didn't kill it but I don't remember a drive that I have been more excited about in my life, we won't discuss 3w after . Eliminating the left side and being able to trust the club is huge for me. Last night was a perfect evening round for golf. Flash continues to perform. I did lose one left though, it is only the second drive with the flash that I have missed left. 147 tracked drives in Arccos and 2 misses left. Works out to 1.4%. I WILL TAKE IT!! Below is a quick look at hole by hole. For those of you that don't use Arccos Green symbolizes a positive stroke gained the darker the green the better. Only one that is not green is the one I missed left. Here is driving handicap with the Flash. sirchunksalot
Got out after work and was able to get a quick nine in. Put the Epic Flash Sub Zero back into 10.5 degrees after playing one round with it at 9.5. The lower loft just doesn't work for me, but I wanted to experiment. I sliced one in a left to right wind that went over 60 yards offline and pull hooked another the same distance on the next hole. My dispersion is definitely better at 10.5 and I'm thinking about going up to 11.5 just to see what happens. It's amazing how forgiving this driver is, I hit one probably about a ball from the sweet spot on the toe side and still was able to get 226 yards out of it. I didn't hit many fairways today, I was 2/7. I think my swing is a little out of sync, because my iron play was horrendous. Overall, I did see most of my drives gain strokes according to Arccos, even if I couldn't find the short grass. The misses are definitely smaller and less punishing. I'm still working to get my fairways hit stat up, it's about two percent off from my previous gamer, which is at 41 percent. You can see the Epic Flash here: Right now I am completely confident in this driver, but not so much my ability to place a good hit on it. With the way I've been hitting the ball, this bad boy has been a definite game saver. Popular Post yungkory
Alright, so we had a bit of an incident today... Not a bad incident... More of a Mark Crossfield "incident" if you're familiar with his channel. The first hole of the muni I play most is a short Par 4 measuring only 312. Left is dead as there's water, right is okay but you'll be blocked out by monkey pod trees, and in the center of the fairway is a huge tree, and a bunker. Normally, I play right at the tree, and my natural draw will put me left of the bunker, about 70 yards or so from the green. I even posted this picture a few months ago that TS2 was putting me in great positions: Below is the view from about where the ball in the picture above is resting: Today, with Epic Flash I took aim dead center at the tree and BOMBED one with maybe a 5y draw. I expected it to be good, but I didn't expect to see this: I basically drove the green, first swing of the day. Yes, I am more efficient with this shaft as it fits me better than the HZRDUS Smoke, but it's definitely also a better performing driver head for me than TS2 was. Further evidence for me that this driver is the real deal. The number 1 handicap hole plays uphill the whole way, and normally into wind, and on a good day I'll be like 150y out on my 2nd shot. Today I was significantly closer on my approach, and the closest I've ever been on this hole: 3/3 fairways hit today with driver (9 holes) and all were at the upper end of my range: 274 (uphill into wind), 291 (first shot of the day), 301: It's really hard to argue with these results, albeit still a small sample size. The honeymoon phase is definitely a thing of beauty with me and the Flash though. Oh, and for my buddy @THEZIPR23 aka big d*ck zip, you inspired me to be a better driver of the ball today by posting that hdcp earlier. You still got me by .6 though: MaxEntropy, JohnSmalls, Nunfa0 and 7 others 9 1 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max LS Tensei AV Blue S 3w/5w: TSi2 Tensei AV Raw Blue S 4h: CLK 22* Hybrid Tensei CK Pro Blue 80HY S Irons 5-PW: 223 Steelfiber PR 95 S Wedges: RTX Zipcore Tour Rack 50, 54, 58 Steelfiber PR 105 Putter: LAB Link.1 Ball: Z-Star Diamond
Popular Post THEZIPR23
@yungkory I'm sorry but I have to post this. I almost had my first hole in one last night. 326 par 4. There is about a 10 yard gap to hit the ball where it won't catch a tree and drop down in front of green. You can't see the green from the tee but I hit one on the perfect line. As soon as I hit it I said "got it, it might go in" Not quite but close. Haven't been on this green in 15 years. I did hit one of my infamous pull hooks yesterday on the 9th hole. Except it didn't hook. Normally that miss will be 60 yards left of the fairway. Last night it moved about 15 yards left and that was it. It was still way left of fairway but the reduction in side spin is impressive. goaliewales14, Nunfa0, Rtracymog and 8 others 11 Quote Stealth 2+ 9 (Diamana PD 60 S 45") Stealth 2+ 15 (Diamana PD 70 S 43") G425 19 (Raijin 2.0 85x) G425 22 (Raijin 2.0 85x) ZX7 5-9 (KBS C Taper S) Vokey SM9 45 10 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 49 08 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 55 08 M (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 59 04 T (KBS 610) Spider GT Splitback 34" ProV1 #23 Twitter @THEZIPR23 "One thing Golf has taught me, is that my muscles have no memory."
