I'm done...for now

Recommended Posts

I've played 3 tournaments this year and haven't come close to placing. The last one Sunday felt like a 5 hour long funeral. More importantly than poor results is that this is not fun. I'm a 6 handicap and average score is around 80-82, so I have lower expectations when I've played. I just hope to be competitive as I'm not planning on blowing away the field. But that seems too much to ask for right now, and it's too expensive to just be a donator. I've thought about all the more golf I can play if I wasn't throwing it away on tourneys I can't compete in. No more, it's time for golf to be fun again. Maybe when my average gets into the mid 70s I'll give it another go.

The game should be fun.  There are many ways to compete where it is fun, without playing in tournaments.  Maybe a break is what you need, then one day you can channel those competitive juices again in a tournament.  Don't give up!

You didn't mention what type of tournament and level of competition you were up against, but whenever golf is no longer fun for me is when I'll quit.  Find a good foursome of people you enjoy and enjoy the game for what it is.  Tournament golf is great, but not the only way to play the game.

agreed!

I stopped playing the 36 hole scratch comps a few years ago. Full of serious young 'stars' who went mental if they weren't 4 under par after 8 holes or guys who just wanted to play and hardly spoke a word all round. Sucked all the fun out the game.

Now the most enjoyable games I have are the roll ups with people playing for fun and still trying hard, but having a laugh all the way round. We play for £3 each and the real prize is the talk at the end over some beers (or tea) of what 'might have been' 😉😂
