russtopherb
Great idea for an article. CB Lobo 4 Life
Recommendations: If removing with a knife definitely use a hook blade. Can be purchased at any hardware store/Walmart. Have a hair dryer handy for removing excess grip tape. Throw that high heat air on it and you should be able to peel it off in no time. Be generous with your grip solvent. You can buy it pretty cheap on eBay and it is better to have the grip go on easily than for you to have to push it on aggressively and cause ribs to occur. One thing I always do before removing the old grip is take a sharpie and make a small dot on the shaft. You usually have an alignment indentation on the grip. Put the dot on the shaft by the indentation. This way when you install the new grip you can align it to the small dot you made. Then just wipe the dot off with the mineral spirits. Yes, I watch a couple of YouTube videos about how much of a nightmare those grips can be! Mine were Graves Golf single plane grips that have marks for where pressure points are supposed to be on the grip. So it was imperative that the alignment is correct, similar to the GP Align! It was definitely tedious, but I'm happy with the result. jolter1
I regrip mine and wife's clubs every late February. Been doing it for the longest time. I agree, use plenty of fluid (mineral spirits), hook blade, and for me I have a heat gun for the tape. Nothing beats the feeling of doing the reegripping knowing it won't be long till I am out there again playing. cthoma11
Hi, My additions to this would be: Using mineral spirits will stink for a couple weeks. Buy grip solvent if you dont want the smell. I mark the length of the grip and the alignment mark with masking tape on the shaft before I take the old grip off when the new grips are the same as the old. If your clubs are cold, let them warm up to room temp (my garage heated, but is only 6 degrees Celsius in winter), this will help with grip tape removal and require less heat gun work. I had some wedges where the factory tape was at least 1 inch from the end and all of these grips split from going in/out of the bag. Make sure you tape close to the length and not too short. (Or too long, you dont want tape beyond the end of the grip, its needs to be just-right ) GolfSpy_APH and tony@CIC 2 Quote Titleist TSR2 Driver, Taylor Made M5-3W, M6-3H,4H, Sim2 5-PW, Vokey SM9 50,54,58 , Scotty Cameron Super Select Del Mar

I've had problems with old double-sided tape not working well which allowed grips to twist. So, I dug down into the comment section of an older McGolf's regripping videos and someone commented that the tape dispenser he uses automatically removes the backing and wound it around a separate wheel. I've had problems with old double-sided tape not working well which allowed grips to twist. I couldn't imagine leaving the backing on and not having the same issue. typically if using double sided grip tape (not carpet tape) results in twisting two things may have occurred. An air bubble got trapped, easily fixed with a needle or tip of an exacto knife. 2 ) the core size and shaft butt end are very different. Lastly and a bonus the grip actually sucks. this happened to me using CP2 grips where the core just would not grip after 2 seperate attempts a quick stick with a knife and some heat to dry the solvent worked. I'm pretty sure it was #3, sucky tape! I bought new and used the same brand/style grip on the club (driver) and it's been fine ever since. Thanks!
