Daddyawn
You know the days are getting shorter when a 3:30 tee time is limited to 9 holes. And we love it here in South Africa when your days get shorter (our days get longer). We will soon be able to tee off at 6am and do the front 9 before work and again at 4pm to do the back 9. We are also blessed in the sense that, where I live, we don't have snow at all and can play all year round. Well we ham and egged it. We ended up with a 73 and we won first place in our flight. Funny feeling good about winning despite having hit some very bad shots. This course is what I would consider a tighter course with tree lined holes or hazards that give you a drop so accuracy has always been a big player here. If you have never played from the Red Tee's it is 100% a different game. Definitely a course that can punish you when you are offline. It is surprising how pine trees that seem so far apart can prevent you from advancing the ball very far. Trying to think where all the red tees are, but pretty sure it would take driver out of my hands on most of the holes but may add it on some if it opens up the line to the hole. Beakbryce
I played great. Only problem, I think it is the last day, unless they stop soaking the course for those of us that go out early, that I play the set of tees I have been playing since 2001. I live in AZ and when I first started to play this course, it was as close to the edge as the greens keeper could keep it. Boy did balls roll out. Now though, it's watered to death. Very green. alii1959
Today....kinda mirrored yesterday. But, no birdies. Two less bad holes.....however,.... I was bumping along pretty good until #6. My friend and I have a running joke about how poorly he usually plays that hole. Over the past couple of weeks he has scored 9,8,7,6...etc. So, of course, I was giving him crap about how this was going to go. Well, I hooked it off the tee, into the woods. Slapped it into the water as my recovery shot. Blew it over the green. But, a smooth one putt for double. Tomorrow, I ain't saying nothin'! Today, of course, he squeaked out a par....rat bastard that he is! I had 7 bad holes: the aforementioned double and 6 bogeys. Another 80. This is not the direction that I want my handicap to go. However, the heat index for the last few days has been 100+ with high humidity. By 18 today I think we were all spent. It was a tough walk! But, I will clean my shoes, rehydrate, clean my clubs, and tomorrow par will suffer!!! GolferZak
Not today, but on Tuesday, Played and exceptional first 9 holes with a 1 over par. My driver was still inconsistent from changing up my driver swing this year, But my approach and short game was on point. The back nine, a different story. I lost more consistency with my driver, and was scrambling, ended up 8 over on the back for an 80 ( par 71 course ). I have been considering going back to my old swing and trying to fix it vs continue to work on this new swing, but time will tell. I just need to go hit a few hundred balls with my driver, or better yet, get a new driver! But the funny thing is, over the last 36 holes, my scorecard only shows pars and bogeys. It feels great to save those pars and bogeys, avoiding the dreaded high numbers. Without even trying to chase a good score, I’ve ended up playing some of my best golf in a long time over the past few days. I’ve been mostly playing at my home club in Sweden, Ringenäs Golf Club. Here are some pictures from my last round—fall is slowly making its way to Sweden. Beautiful course, especially that last picture. I've been playing great golf recently too, and I think it is in large part down to what you've just said - don't stress! TAGolf13
21 hours ago, rkj427 said: Managed to get out for my only round this week earlier this morning, under cloudy skies, with warm and humid conditions after we had some storms roll through the previous days. Only hope I had was that there would not be too many soggy spots or tree limbs down to impede playing. Played very well on the front 9, had a 37, with the only bogey on a hole where I missed the fairway right on a dogleg left hole, hit it too far, and then tried to hit the shot to the green from a wet lie. Came up short, naturally, but at least the results were not terrible. Back 9 started with a hooked tee shot using my driver on a hole where it may not have been the best play, and the left misses kind of kept it up on the back 9. It was getting warmer and more humid, so maybe it was something with my grip that was the cause? Ended up with a 40 on the back for a 77 total, so my recent scores have been very consistent, so that shows me that my course management when playing this track is pretty good, provided I would hit each and every shot as pictured or planned. Busy schedule for me through the upcoming holiday weekend means my next round will be early next week at the earliest. I'm sure glad I followed your redemption round example @rkj427! Went back to Magnolia Landing a few days after that butt kicking 93 and shot 78! Hadn't gone under 80 in years. Of course I haven't played much in years, but 78 for me is only one stroke off my all-time best on a championship-length course! cksurfdude, William P, rkj427 and 4 others 1 6 Quote Still swinging after all these years

Dweed
Played 9 this afternoon. Mostly a decent round. Drives missed too many fairways but I was able to scramble enough to make things work. 7 GIR and 7 pars. My 2 bogies entailed 3 putting each. Can't score when you have 20 putts over 9 holes. Even though it was humid and pretty warm you can see fall is around the corner. Was happy with this shot here. 2nd into the green with 5 iron at 170. But of course I 2 putted. But hey, at my age I'll take pars all day long. Popular Post TAGolf13
Well fellow Spies, I'm really proud of myself for hanging in there these past 4 days of the 2024 World Amateur Handicap Championship, despite lousy putting the 1st three days and lousy everything else today at Prestwick Golf Club (Well, I did do some pretty good scrambling today). I was stuck at T16 after the 1st two rounds, and I didn't do much moving yesterday on moving day (climbed to solo 12th). Stephanie (my beloved who is responsible for my being here and having an awesome 13th anniversary) and I decided that a top-10 finish would be a realistic goal and a successful tourney. Prestwick's track is a beast of a challenge--even from the green tees where we old guys played from today, so if I played ok today, I would have a decent shot at climbing into the top-10. Well, although I hit the 1st two fairways, I bogeyed both holes then notched a triple bogey on hole 3. On hole 4, I was stunned to hit my 3w fat and not clear the water. That has been club-reliable for me lately. Anyway, that led to another double, and top-10 thoughts were relegated to fantasy land. 7 over after 4 holes!! The only pars I had on the front-9 were on two short par-3s (125yds, 149yds), and I posted 46 on the front, five strokes back of the leader of our foursome and tied for 3rd with my cart partner. Messenger_creation_097220AB-92B0-4544-A103-8197B5BFADA7.mp4 But here's why I'm proud of myself: after lousy putting for three days, facing a course with fast undulating greens today, on the toughest course we played this week, I hung in there and shot 41 on the back to clip our group leader by 1 shot! Despite not having my best stuff today, I finished with 87 (only 3 players shot better today: two 86s and an 83) and my best putting round of the event (29 putts). If only my ball-striking had matched the past few days! Lotta "if onlys" in golf, right? Best of all, after only getting back into the game a few months ago, wielding a driver that's only been in the bag for a couple weeks, a gap wedge that I picked up 2nd hand some weeks ago (I did have the lie adjusted), and no sandwedge in the bag, I climbed six spots on the day to finish solo 6th! Dang it! One spot out of the money. The World Am is a total blast (hadn't played it since 2016 and a torn Achilles), and to share another experience like this with my beloved on our 13th anniversary has been priceless! Pricey, but priceless! I was stuck at T16 after the 1st two rounds, and I didn't do much moving yesterday on moving day (climbed to solo 12th).
