Jim Shaw
6 minutes ago, cnosil said: Sounds like so great pressure putting and solid overall play. Congrats on the win. curious, did you get to try the LAB putter your competitor had? Do you know which model? Thanks @cnosil lots of great takeaways from a particularly great round. Thanks for reminding me, @Cfhandyman it turned out to be a broom style putter with a Ping head on it, not a LAB putter at all. Which again intrigues me, is it the broom style that golfers are gaming or the LAB with the broom? alii1959
Today was a much improved day. 12 fairways, 7GIRs Front 9: 1 eagle, 2 bogeys--36! Back 9: two doubles, 3 bogeys--43! They are speeding up the greens for the club championship in a week or so. Thus, the putts aren't dropping very easily. Wound up above the hole too often on the back. However, I was able to keep the ball in play and get up and down a few times. On 18, a long par 5 with water before the elevated green. I had to make par to stay below 80. I hit my tee shot well, into the left side of the fairway. My layup was an 8i just before the water. I had about 80yds to the pin. I hit a 58* wedge. It was tracking directly to the pin. I was expecting a very makable birdie putt. The ball hit a sprinkler head and bounced toward the back of the green. I nearly fainted. Golf is so unfair. No really it is unfair. I was able to keep my composure, after a few special golf words, and two putt to post 79! After experimenting with various grips, referred to in previous posts, I have returned to my 10 fingered (not baseball) grip. The others were inconsistent for me. My ball flight is repeatable, if ugly, and I am able to aim better knowing what the ball is going to do. I have always wanted to have one of those languid smooth golf swings that is so beautiful to watch. The reality is that my swing looks like I am trying to beat a screaming squirrel to death with a wet noodle. It works, but man is it ugly. You don't really get extra points for beauty. While the back 9 today was a struggle, I was always in play, thanks to my choice in grip. Recon we will stay with it.....until, I feel the need to experiment again....hopefully not too soon. Dan1993
First round with the new irons and wedges in the bag. First round playing with mid size grips, so overall I'm heriot with my performance. My putting took a hard dive, but I'll be honest, I was very unconcerned about my putting today, and was mainly focused on iron play. Need more wedge practice to dial in more spin on chip shots. But my irons are fantastic. Longer, straighter, more predictable. Was able to shape a few shots, and I'm definitely generating more spin, which helped stick greens more than I usually do. Lgregg33
Playing Hilliard lakes golf club in Westlake Ohio today. I have a buddy who puts together a multiple foursome scramble about 8 groups of guys. Fun times, played in it last year. Going into today with where my game is at, and scramble format, I’ll likely attempt to hit driver which has been a bit wild for me like usual. I don’t want that to take me out of the rest of my game where I can contribute better so I’ll look to hit 3-7 wood or long irons off the tee where I have much better control. Might be lead off guy to just put one out there and put it in play. I’m fine with that. sp0rtsfan86
Played last weekend and this weekend but have taken a lot of the midweek off other than range sessions. Saturday's have been brutal as of late- 4.5 hour round today and a 5+ hour last saturday. Last week, we played with a guy that just couldn't keep up walking and was just a slow person in general. Today we had the second half of our foursome show up at tee time and just weren't that great of golfers. They picked up a few times but it's been two long rounds despite being first off the course. As for the scores: itw as ugly last Saturday and then Sunday decided to play from the tips and shot exactly my handicap. Today did the same from the normal blue tees. I'm still struggling with my driver and keeping it straight, but I'm hitting irons well enough and making some putts. Popular Post Shankopotomous
The weather was about perfect this afternoon and we made time to go play 18. The course was crowded having only a couple open tee times through the afternoon, we had one open hole in front of us and caught them by the 3rd tee. But it was all 2-somes that we could see and so the pace moved along pretty well and we finished in 3 hours. I started with a double bogey brought on by a 4-putt!! The first putt was a 50'er and blew about 15' past the hole, i missed the comeback and stubbed my putter on a 2'er leaving it short! A smooth 6 but at least I don't have to worry about the first hole birdie jinx! I regrouped for a good round of ball striking, hitting 14/15 fairways and 15/18 GIR. Made 2 bogeys and 2 birdies in the next 17 holes to finish at +2, 74. I played the back tees which only gets to 6400 yards but i need to practice at the longer yardage for a tournament coming up in a month. This lets me hit driver on most holes and a 7 or 8 iron into the greens instead of wedges all day. The last month or so has been a nice streak of solid shots that I hope continues. Rearviewmirror
Super interesting round today. Not great scoring, but I feel like my game has really turned a corner lately. I was out until 1am last night at a music show, so was very interested to see how I would fare after 5hrs of sleep. Things started very well (birdied the first) and was +3 through 6 holes. Then the concentration wheels came off! I made a LOT of mental mistakes today that led to bleeding stroke - overclubbed on two of the par 3s and went long, tried to get too aggressive with a punch out and ended up hitting a tree and going backwards, had a couple of double chips where I either hit it too long out of bunkers or through the green, tried to hit a 5W out of a near impossible lie, ball moved at address when my clubhead touched a leaf the ball was resting on... I feel like my mental game has been tight as a drum recently, so it's amazing to see what happens in a round where I totally lost that! Ball striking was excellent today (hit a 297yd drive on 18, albeit with a pretty baked fairway, stiffed a 9W to 20ft for an eagle look). So I think the positive trajectory will continue if I keep focused on the fundamentals. I think in the past I would have been discouraged by today, whereas I honestly felt like I did slightly above average for how underslept I was. It all just feels like part of the process and continuing to learn more about my own game and areas I need to continue to focus. Popular Post cnosil
Beautiful day for golf except for the wind. Temps in the 70s, a bit overcast, and 15-20 MPH steady wind. even with the wind I played pretty well 8/13 FW, 11 GIR, 33 putts (one 3 putt) 36/41:77 Overall I was happy with my round and feel like I am on track to score low in the near future. Biggest area for improvement is up and down conversion rate (2 for 7 today). I am generally hitting my short game shots well and have IMO significantly improved my performance. I am not chunking shots and am getting on the green; just need to get distance control dialed in. Putting isn't bad but it isn't great either; I'm leaving too many putts short. Read skills are good...putts are staying above the hole and I am hitting the ball on the line I am seeing. Basically need to get to the short game area and dial in distances and practice the the shorter shots that are just off the green but not in great position to putt. Popular Post Prodigal Duffer
A pretty wild round, tale of two nines: I had two three putts, but on the back nine, I putted out of my mind. Hit a few 12-15 footers (to save par and to make birdie). Lag putting was good, too. Been working hard on my irons, and in general, I was happy with how I hit them, even though I am still losing strokes. I had only two blow up shots with my irons, but they both cost me a penalty stroke. On the #2 index hole, I hit my approach to 12 feet: Made the putt. A great feeling. This was my second lowest round ever. Glad I didn’t throw in the towel after nine. Rob Person
It started out with a mild to misty rain. 30 minutes in it stopped. Fortunately ot wasn't heavy enough for CPO! There were 3 of us playing. Started off in light rain proof gear (bucket hat, pants and a pullover), then by hole 6 I was back to shorts and a polo. All in all a decent day, until hole 14.... HOLE 14- There was a group that were playing speed golf I guess, because we had nobody behind us for 13 holes. They were just hitting to their green as we were teeing off. By the time we got to our balls they were on the tee box. So we waved them by, and pulled off behind some trees about 225 yards out, and it was to the left side, about 20 feet left of the cart path. I stood behind TWO trees. Watched the first 3 balls soar well pass 250+ yards up the middle Heard the next guy tee off and all I hear is a whoosh, thwack, and then clunk. The clunk? My forehead!!! I saw stars for about 10 seconds, and realized I was on my a$$. Picked myself up, look around and the 2 I was playing with standing there wondering what just happened. All I could figure is that the ball was a low and very fast hook that went around the trees I was behind and hit the tree 6 foot past me and bounced backwards into my head. Never heard a FOORRRE yelled out either. The group rushed up, and immediately started to apologize.... repeatedly. I took a couple minutes and did a self assessment (I'm trained for that) and we carried on playing after they played through. Thankfully the bev cart was coming by and I grabbed a towel and filled it with ice. No headache, no nausea, no distorted vision. And hours later I still feel fine. My forehead however, that's a different story... Oh, and the ball? A prov1 left dash, that after impacting my head, ricocheted 50 feet forward back into the fairway. and he played it as it layed. Moral of the story... if you are going to let anyone play through, wait until the next tee box!!! Oh and I had an amazing shot on 18. But still 2 putted for par. Ended up shooting 83 rkj427, cksurfdude, Dweed and 6 others 8 1 Quote WITB- Driver -Titleist 910D, 3w- Titleist 910F, 5hy/7hy- Titleist 910H, 6-PW - Stix , 52⁰, 56⁰, 60⁰ - Stix , Putter- AI-ONE DB / Lombardi Tour 34 custom Just an old newbie golfer, trying to learn and improve 1 club at a time.
