What do you keep in your bag (apart from clubs)

Recommended Posts

With the imminent arrival of my Ghost bag, and the discussion around what you can fit in the pockets, I was wondering what everyone carries in their bag. I’m terrible for hoarding all sorts in my bag and know I need to streamline so thought I’d get everyone’s view.
In my bag at present I have

Waterproof jacket and trousers, Rangefinder, Bushnell Phantom GPS, c. 3 dozen balls, 6 gloves, pair of rain gloves, woolly hat, bag of tees, 4 ball markers, 2 divot tools, half a dozen pencils, woolly hat, 2 microfibre towels, BootBuddy club/ball cleaner, 2 long sleeved sweater, score card wallet

As well as this attached to the outside of the bag I have 2 towels, 2 bag tags, small brush/groove cleaner

Hmmm.  What don't I carry? 🤣

I had to start sourcing external use options!!! A clip on magnet base, 5 or 6 more carabiners for the D rings and neck clips,  retractable cords, etc

I actually have reduced the amount I had last year by 50% I'd say. It's hard for the boy scout/leo in me not to be prepared for any situation.

At one point I even had a spare med kit in the bag for "just in case" moments.

When I start walking on courses eventually,  I will have to have another serious conversation with myself about it!

Hmmm let me think... Usually 3 sleeves of balls(I lose a ton, been working on that), a small bag of wooden tees, divot tool, lightweight windbreaker/rain jacket, small bottle of spray sunscreen, 2 bottles of water, 3 gloves( each one in worst condition than the previous), rangefinder, the allen key and weights for my Edel irons, a sharpie, one large towel, and a scrub brush.  I try to keep it light as I walk 90% of the time but still full of stuff I barely touch!

9 Balls, smallish bag of tees and ball markers, divot tool, ping club key, rangefinder, baseball hat, 2 granola bars. 2 towels on the outside, bag tag from Random Golf Club and a club cleaner. If it's going to rain I'll stuff in a rain jacket. And I usually have a drink or 2 in the cooler section. I carried forever so I like to keep it light even now that I just got a push cart.

Aside from the usual subjects (balls, tees, gloves, ball markers, etc), I always have sunscreen and spare sunglasses. Also keep some bad habit nicotine pouches and lots of snacks. I forgot to empty out garbage last round and had a jerky packet and 2 protein bar wrappers that left chocolate gunk everywhere

I don’t have too much in my bag…2 gloves, rangefinder, sunglasses, balls, bag for small stuff (tees, divot tool), paper/pencil for round tracking, an extra towel or 2 and umbrella if rain expected.  Also have 2 towels on the outside of the bag.

Will bring some snacks and drinks for during the round as well.

Haha, well in fairness I walk all of my rounds carrying an unstructured ping pencil bag that can only holds about that much stuff. Definitely give it a go though, the more you play the more you learn what you truly ‘need.’

I have a tube of lotion, a container of liquid bandage, sunscreen, extra markers, ball markers, a back patch for a sore back, and some snacks.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Along with the usual (balls, tees, sunglasses, ball markers, divot tool, towel, rain jacket, sunscreen etc.), I usually carry a few other things I haven't seen mentioned:

  • Some type of grip enhancer/tacky substance - I sweat quite a bit, so I want to ensure my grip isn't slippery
  • Bandaids/tape, especially early in the year for blisters
  • Can koozie and "birdie" shots (just in case)

Balls…. God I will never understand why I carry so many balls in my bag. Probably from the days when I’d lose a dozen a round but I have to have at least 20 in there for god knows what reason. The ones I actually use are in a side pocket and then I have like 2 sleeves on top flights in case I’m afraid to lose a ball on that hole.

other than that I have 3 towels (1 for me, one for cleaning clubs, 1 good luck charm). Usually keep a this rain jacket and/ or a this quarter zip that I’ll never put on but I just have it as a just incase. 2 gloves, 3 ball markers cause I always lose them, 2 divot tools again cause I misplace them or forget to take them out of my pocket, small box of tees and smaller box of small tees, rangefinder, usually a tin of any, 2 soft beer sleeves, club cleaner, small first aid kit, those bug repellent bracelets cause they work well enough for what I need from them, extra socks, sharpie for ball marking, jeez this is making m3 realize I have to go through my bag again and I’m sure there’s more stuff in there.
bit of a gear junkie so I like to have everything I could possibly need in there. Typically if I’m on the course don’t go through the bag cause sometimes there some spicy protection in there also just cause I don’t leave it anywhere unsecured and don’t go anywhere without it typically.

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

  • About a dozen balls - mostly Maxfli Tour X and a few ProV1x right now
  • All wooden...just hate the sound of plastic tees- Some broken for par 3, driving iron, and FW wood usage and full tees for driver usage
  • Two (2) divot tools - 1 primary I carry almost all the time and 1 in another pocket of the bag as a backup
  • Microfiber towels - At least 3 - 1 to get wet1 to keep dry for clubs / balls, and 1 for drying hands and face
  • Nikon Coolshot Pro II rangefinder
  • USB C charging cable for phone (in case I forgot to charge it)
  • Ibuprofen / Pepto / bandaids / gauze tape / white hockey stick tape (best stuff for keeping a bandaid from falling off when sweating) / etc. - i.e. a very small medical / 1st aid kit.
  • Gloves - At least 3 and usually 4 (I sweat through them fast in the Texas heat)
  • Small tubes of face-specific sunscreen and lip balm
  • Probably a few other odds and ends....but it's pretty well limited to just the basics

Eagle scout- teaches you to be minimal

Military- minimal, but makes you wish you had just one more item

Ems- we don't know what have this sh!t is, but we have it

LEO - where the F did I put that again? Which bag?

Let's look in the bag:

2 sleeves of balls (usually 2 different types of balls)

Golf Shoes because I have forgotten them more than once

Towel/Divot Tool/Groove It/Ball Marker

Driver tool

Glove(s)

Tees

When I go, I always pack water and granola. A little bit of gummy worms/peach rings in case the ol' blood sugar starts to feel low.

Camera stand that I always end up forgetting about

Rangefinder when the one I won on IG comes.

Phone, Wallet, Keys.

And a sweater on mixed weather or cold days.

Man, golf is a game of pack mules isn't it??

Just moved everything over to my new bag when I got it last month so I was able to clean and consolidate. Right now besides clubs I have:

  • Valuables pouch where I keep my markers, tees, divot tools, and short green marker to mark my balls
  • Pullover windbreaker
  • Sunscreen and bug spray
  • Small "first aid" kit with a few band aids, aspirin, neosporin, etc.
  • A few pre-paid Visa cards in case I need some extra $$
  • 2 extra gloves
  • Spare towel

The outside of the bag has my towel, rangefinder, club cleaning brush, and small bluetooth speaker that I honestly never use because it sounds like 💩

In my Big Max hybrid bag:

I keep a pouch prepared for easy access to the most important items to start a round.  Two balls, tees, repair tool, pencil, marker.  This is also the spot I drop my car keys, so I can find them after the round.  Another 6- 8 balls, band aids, allergy meds, pain meds, range finder, two gloves, sunscreen, two towels (one microfiber, one cotton), cash in small bills, and sunglasses.

I often walk a few holes on Sunday evenings, so I try to keep my bag light.
