The Ultimate Splurge for 2012

fital-10.jpg

Alial Fital proves that the US Olympics clothing could have been made in the USA at a high caliber that competes and probably surpasses internationally built clothing.

That's it, this review was just wrapped up in one sentence - but there's always more to the story.

fital-4.jpg

Alial Fital is probably the coolest named company I've seen in a while, looks/sounds super high-end and possibly very Italian - but is entirely US focused and created - the name has no crazy translation - company founder Gibran Hamdan took his's parent's names and spelled them backwards. Sadly, if I spell my parent's names backwards - Icaj Regor - it sounds like someone from Russia was punished at birth by their parents.

You can read all about how Alial Fital came about on their website here - basically Gibran was a pro NFL quarterback who got his hands on his soon-to-be wife's sewing machine and combined great taste with something your don't normall expect from a professional athlete - sewing skills.

fital-1.jpg

My mom made my clothes for me as a child during grade school and her stuff never came close to touching the quality and style of Gibran's designs - I wish she could have taken notes from Alial Fital back then and saved me from the jeering comments of my "friends."

Style

There were times in the past when I thought the mold had been broken on style, but enter Alial Fital and the bar has been raised again. I have yet to see any brand with a style that comes close to Alial Fital's in the golf industry. I have a long sleeve dress shirt that costs two times as much that has a similar level of style, but I wouldn't ever wear that on the golf course.

fital-3.jpg

The Namesake Polo alone has enough style for a full 20 point score - but then comes the rest of Alial Fital's offerings.

With a full selection of colors and patterns available pre-designed as well as an amazing custom design selection with 17,576 possible combinations, your style choices are unsurpassed.

Score - 20/20

Comfort/Fit

Thick and soft (

) will probably be your first realization when you touch one of these shirts, but being as thick as they are, I was concerned I would quickly overheat. Surprisingly, the material breathes well - wears just slightly warmer than my coolest polos, but not enough to bother me, especially when spitting such awesome style all over the golf course.

fital-8.jpg

My first round in an Alial Fital shirt I pushed 36 holes in the heat of Mexico and couldn't have been more comfy.

The shirts fit well - I was a bit worried about them not offering a small size and felt the medium might fit too loosely for my taste, but I found the medium to be a near perfect fit for my frame. The shirts are long and sharing a photo of myself without the shirt tucked in warranted a quick reply from GolfSpy Tony that I looked sloppy and to tuck it in.

fital-6.jpg

The fit of these shirts walks a very solid happy-medium that puts a smile on my face (I really like form fitted/tighter shirts) yet allows those who like a bit more free hanging shirt to keep a smile on their face as well.

Score - 20/20

Performance/Movement

Alial Fital performs as well as anything I've ever put on to play golf. The material is stretchy and adjusts with any/all movements without any pulling or tightening. Performing in the sweat department is a place I challenge shirts more than the average human and I can attest that the Alial Fital shirts wick sweat with the best.

Value

Some of you might think a round of golf should never cost more than $100, and some might think $500 isn't an absurd rate for a tee time - at $85 average for a polo, Alial Fital is probably more similar to a $150 round of golf - and I would suggest that the value you receive with this shirt is on par and possibly above the value you get with most $150 rounds.

fital-9.jpg

If you've never spent more than $100 on a dress shirt, I believe you'd say this shirt shouldn't score a 20 in value - I on the other hand regularly purchase dress shirts in the $150 range - so $85 for an exceptional shirt in my view is a great value.

The construction and quality of these shirts tells me that they will last for at least two years (and I play a LOT of rounds)

Without considering others, I would give this value score 20, but to be considerate of those who don't believe in spending their money on clothes and suffering in the fashion and comfort departments, I will drop that score to a 19 begrudgingly.

Score - 19/20

Peanut Gallery

My peanut gallery knows me well and they understand my need to be loud - and even with that understanding, I think the pink Alial Fital shirt took them by surprise. My gallery was proud for me with my extreme pink addition to the wardrobe and quickly took note and gave me two thumbs up.

fital-5.jpg

These polos turned heads on nearly ever occasion and nothing I heard was negative (well, the pink did get some jeers from those who don't understand or aren't man enough to wear pink) but even those got over their pink fear when they saw the red variation.

The ultimate response from the peanut gallery was requests for, can you get me one of those shirts (needless to say, I've got an expensive shopping list for this Christmas)

Score - 20/20

Final Thoughts:

Do yourself a favor, man up, don't order those next four Starbucks drinks that you're so addicted to and use that savings to pamper yourself and buy a shirt outside of your normal reach. You won't be disappointed. When's the last time your golf shirt came folded and packed in a box with tissue paper?

So, the next time your wife asks you to go clothing shopping with her, let her know you'll gladly go after she takes you shopping through Alial Fital's online store!

Total Score - 99/100
