So after hearing about the revived Toney Prnna brand, I went on Amazon, used some Amex points and picked up the limited edition 56*.

 

The good folks at FedEx delivered it today, and here's your first Look...

I spoke with Rob Rosenberg, president of the new Toney Penna Golf Company Wednesday. You can read about it here.

 

Couple of first impressions -- it's a nice looking wedge - very clean and the graphics aren't too much.  The shaft appears to be a standard issue FST, and the grip has no marking on it at all other than Toney Penna.  

 

It has a very heavy feel -- D5 swing weight according the website. Not sure if that spec made it to the finished product, but it does feel like it has some heft to it. 

 

Will get it on the course tomorrow and see how it plays.

Hopefully I can hit this sand wedge better than my last Toney Penna one! That thing had a huge sole on it and I could never hit it.

Is it cast or forged?  I do know one thing right off the bat that FST shaft would have to go for me but that is just me

Back in the day those wedges were called "Pin Jammer" In fact they had a whole line of irons called that. I had a set of somewhat rare Penna forged tour blades called the Original made in the 70s. My running partner Bo-Bear liked them so much I reshafted them and reworked them for him. He plays them and a set of Izett woods when we play vintage golf. I am mostly a big Penna wood fan have always been. In some serious vintage collector circles Penna woods are called "half a$$ed Macgregors" because of Toney Penna's early association with Macgregor. His nephew Charlie is still living and comes on over at WRX on the Classics forum. I have a model 59 driver that was one of the last persimmons played on the PGA Tour and I played it on the minis myself up until about 01 or so.
