Mickey Wright, One of the Greatest Players in Women’s Golf, Dies at 85

 

Mary Kathryn "Mickey" Wright is an American former LPGA Tour professional golfer. She became a member of the tour in 1955 and won thirteen major championships and 82 LPGA Tour career events. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Hearing of her passing is a sad way to end a beautiful day. I wish I'd been more observant while she was still playing.

I had an old Mickey Wright sand wedge when I was a kid.  I asked my grandfather who this Mickey Wright guy was, and he just laughed, then showed me pictures of her in an old encyclopedia.

“She had the finest golf swing I ever saw,” Ben Hogan once said.

Truly a great legend.  I'm sure there will be a nice tribute at the Founders Cup next month in Phoenix.
