revkev
Really? I have 4 sets of irons, 5 drivers, 4 putters, God only knows how many wedges, 3 sets of fairways and several additional hybrids over and above the 1 that I carry. Much of this equipment is there to lend to folks who are visiting so that they can play without renting. I also have two full sets out on loan to a son and an in-law. I would say the answer is either as much as your wife or significant other will tolerate or that you can keep hidden from her or him if not. tony@CIC, Cullen, GolfSpy_APH and 2 others 2 3 Quote Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 R flex - 44.25 Fairways: Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood Alta CB red 65 R flex Hybrid: Ping G410 26 degree Alta CB Red 70 R flex Irons: Ping G430 7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex Wedges: Ping 195 S54, E58 Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5” Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. Getting into non-clubs I have probably 15 dozen new balls of various makes and models, 30 dozen used ball, 25 gloves, 8 players towels, thousands of tees, and lots of ball markers and divot tools. GolfSpy_APH
I would say I have too much as well, but there is something about having some sets that just mean something to me or project sets as well. I do want to get into the club building side of things a little more so for me although I may have some I won't use often it is also somewhat of a hobby. Plus never know when I set may get on the naughty list and need to be put away for a round or two. Golfspy_CG2
Actually they did reach out to me. But when I gave them a rundown on the equipment I go through on an annual basis, they said they couldn’t use it, as it would make their own trials and testing look woefully inadequate. quote from the article “Not unusual for our stable of writers to carry two or even three drivers in their bag” Amateurs!! It encourages me to be generous and give freely those things I know I will never use again but there are those things, the few that worked well for some time that held a special place in my peaceful golf mind. So the spares bags (I have it reduced to 2 cart bags and a couple of those sports roll bags) contain the extras that one day will be just the right thing and then won't I be happy I hung onto them?! That’s very little gear compared with what I have, but I am a fitter/dealer for a few golf equipment OEMs, plus I’m a charter dealer for several shaft manufacturers, including Fujikura and Mitsubishi. On a separate note, we will be driving to Nashville next week, passing right by Greeneville on the way there, and then again coming home on January 1 or 2. What are the roads like there, and what is the forecast for next week? Tom the Golf Nut
Well I just moved to NC but the roads are normally fine. You will be on Interstate 81 and 40. You will cruise through until you get to Knoxville which will slow down some. After that wide open until you get close to Nashville. Although it’s unseasonably cold it won’t last. tony@CIC
I have only one complete set here in Florida - but do have a almost complete set in Ohio (my old driver and irons). The bigger question is why they're only recommending ONE pair of shoes. I believe @fozcycle and I would strongly dispute that recommendation. My shoe collection is nothing like Fozs' but I do have 6 pair here in Florida and a bunch more in Ohio. Oh and how about bags? One down here in Fl and 2 bags in Ohio. Lastly I start getting nervous when I'm down to my last 3 doz Vice Pro Plus balls even though I rarely lose them now- but only carry 6 in my golf cart. JerryB
I've mentioned this before, but other than my driver and 3 wood, all my clubs are hand-me-downs, thrift store finds, or garage sale pick-ups. Been great for me as a newer player! Having said that, beyond my current gamers I have three iron sets, two drivers, four putters, six random junior/ladies clubs for my girls (didn't take), eleven various wedges and chippers, a dozen random woods and hybrids, four 2 irons, an extra 6 iron, a lagshot 7 iron and an orange whip knockoff. I have ten dozen new balls, a couple of five gallon buckets of used balls and now two pairs of shoes. I could use more repair tools, ball markers, and gloves, though. At a garage sale last May I passed on a giant staff bag which I'm now regretting. Hoping to come across one again for storage purposes. What I have already is pushing the boundaries of "too much." While still constantly looking, I won't pick anything up unless it's an obvious upgrade. CarlH
I used to have a lot more equipment but trimmed down tremendously prior to our move from Oregon to Arkansas. I still have several putters, several wedges, and a few extra woods lying around, along with a couple of training aids that never get used anymore. I do have 6 pair of golf shoes, though and probably 5 dozen golf balls. Middler
To each his/her own. I never keep spares of any clubs. When I buy any new club, I get rid of its predecessor, even putters. I don't buy new clubs unless I'm dissatisfied or just bored with what I have. I don't want to be tempted to go back to what I had before, I do my homework before buying anything, and then commit to making it work no matter what. That said, I haven't bought any club that I regretted for the first few years or more. YMMV [I'm the same with all possessions. We decluttered our household years ago (took over year), and now when we buy anything new, if it's a replacement the old is sold, donated or trashed - always. When we decluttered starting about 15 years ago, we were surprised at how much "stuff" we'd accumulated. Some of it hadn't been used in decades, that doesn't make sense to us.
