It seems we’ve got some of the American weather as warnings are in place for heat over the next 4 days. Hope you all have a great day and manage to get some golf in I remember those duty days. Of course back then, the body armor was much thicker and heavier. Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Good morning Spies! Weekend was a little more eventful than I had hoped. Flew home from Philly Saturday night. Within a couple of hours I was notified that my mom was in the emergency room, from which she was admitted to the hospital. GI bleeding was the problem. Lost a lot of blood, needed a transfusion, but bleeding has stopped and they indicated she may get to go home this afternoon or tomorrow. CT scan identified another problem, unrelated to the bleeding, which might require surgery for a younger person but probably not for an 84-year-old. The LAB headcover arrived Saturday, looks nice and is now in place on my putter. Must say the "unboxing", consisting of ripping open a brown paper mailing envelope, was distinctly underwhelming, but I like the headcover. It will look nice in Scotland, if I don't lose it on a links dune somewhere. Making plans for 2025, speaking of Scotland. A return trip to Scotland in the works, have contacted a couple of friends about that (also would be open to an MGS roadtrip). One of those friends wants me to attend the US Open with him at Oakmont; strongly considering that. Awaiting word on my application for Masters tickets (will hear in July) and my application to volunteer at the PGA in Charlotte. Which it appears that I can do that as soon as I pay $300 for the mandatory volunteer package (shirt, cap, etc.) @Northern Monkey had to chuckle at your description of the UK heat wave. Met Office says you're looking at 27 C today in Greater London. Which is certainly not cool, but I would have loved 27 this weekend; it was 36 C in Philadelphia on Friday. Popular Post TSauer
Happy Monday.... ugh. Last week was a busy one. I was on staycation and it was fair week in town, so we got to enjoy that all week with the kiddo. We were also dealing with some drainage issues with our house, so it was a very eventful week off. I did manage to play a couple rounds of golf, so that was a plus! I feel like I've missed so much with my routine being out of whack! So much so that the windows are all full of condensation, from the outside. The sun's burning it off though, which is good. Lots of sunshine this week with temps in the mid-80's. Popular Post ZoonORama
Morning all! It has been a minute since I had some time to be on the forum. Took a new position that has been challenging from a leadership position but is starting to take shape now. Lots more to do in the transformation side of the business but I should be able to at least breath again and enjoy the morning caffeine and MGS thread once again. Hope everyone is doing well. I have seen a ton of new opportunities on MGS for products that look amazing. I am so pleased to see the growth of this platform. I have been seeing more and more, MGS being quoted in product reviews from companies and even on YouTube videos by content creators. Great to see that level of credibility surfacing in the wild. The staff and team have worked incredibly hard to make this platform a community and they have succeeded. When I am unable to get on here regularly, I feel like I am missing so much. Thank you! to the MGS staff and team for supporting guys like me who would otherwise struggle to make sense of the golf world. Today is National Praline Day. I didn’t have a proper praline until I went to Texas. They are delicious but probably not the best for you. That means @Dead Solid Bogey should probably stay away from them unless the she ruler allows him such delicacies. Have a great week everyone! Cheers! But I got fitted at a small local golf shop and have been pleased with the results. If you're gonna do a full bag fitting might as well take the opportunity to select wedges and get them properly gapped. My fitter chose my wedges based on the lofts on the bottom end of my iron selections, which is basically the same thing. My old clubs were 30+ years old, so I didn't try to sell/trade them, but I've since seen people selling that model on eBay, so that would be an option. Popular Post Steve F
Good morning MGS Nation! A lot of catching up just done on the GMT.... it was a very hot weekend and I probably should have stayed home in the A/C. I had a 1410 tee time to walk 18 on Saturday and the temperatures were very warm.... when I was done with my round I went to my vehicle and checked the temp: very warm to say the least, and this was at 1830 hours. Whew! My guess is it was at least 105* on course with zero breeze. I should have known when I got to the first tee that the dripping sweat was not going to play very well. Actually, didn't do hateful until the back nine when I could literally feel myself simply running out of gas and praying for the beverage cart to come by.... PLEASE! (For Gatorade, not libations....). Then, I had the audacity to go home, take a very cool (and very refreshing) shower and pass out. Then Sunday morning, started it all over again and had a terrible round. I could barely get a drive straight let alone with any distance and I did my time scrambling as best I could: I am pretty sure I was still feeling punky from the heat and humidity of Saturday: the only good things about Sunday's round were the company and the venue. We played Rocky Point which is situated on the Chesapeake Bay and the views were beautiful. Thankfully there was a breeze coming off the water when we were at holes near it and even though it was a heavy, humid breeze, it was air movement and felt delightful! Will have some new numbers to post for the L.A.B. DF3: putting is getting better, until Sunday which my entire game was taking a break. Love our game: it is so fickle, and working to maintain consistency is a joy and an chore all at the same time: one that I wouldn't trade for the world! Enough about that weekend: on to a new week! Finally have my doctors appointment to get my calf looked at Wednesday: hopefully nothing crazy. It's still sore and achy, but at least I'm able to put some pressure on it and swinging doesn't feel horrible. Today we get a small, one day break from the heat: only supposed to get into the upper 80's with a decent breeze. I hope everyone has an incredible start to their week: stay cool and hydrated! When buying new clubs, do you sell your clubs on your own or do you trade them in towards your new clubs? My opinions: 1. It is typically more about the fitter than the location. There are lots of threads on forums about the big box fitting locations you mention and they range from terrible to best ever. You also have Your Golf Ball store ion Indian River, and Golf Headquarters in Greenbrier, Addicted to Golf in Yorktown, and Hodson in Richmond. There may be others as well. 2. most people will say you should fit wedges on the course and not on artificial turf. Look for a Titleist fitting day if you want to go that route. Fitting via the various online tools isn’t a bad way to go but you don’t get to hit them. 3. gapping is usually a follow up. During iron fittings you will most likely only hit a 6 irons. Once you get the clubs you then dial in the distance using launch monitors. I would say the majority of people skip this step, 4. I have sold my old clubs and I have traded them in. Pros and cons to each. Trade in typically you get little money, you can check the values online to see. Selling gets you more money but takes time and requires you to deal with peoples offers and shipping. If you want a specific brand, they sometimes offer bonus on trade ins, for example Callaway is currently offering 2x the trade value. Dan1993
2 minutes ago, cnosil said: My opinions: 1. Great write up! Appreciate the help!! Will definitely look into the local spots around here as well. I know Riverwalk out in Suffolk does PXG fittings, would it be worth it to do a wedge fitting with them, then take the stats and order what I need from whatever brand I decide to go with? cksurfdude, MattWillGolf, sirchunksalot and 6 others 9 Quote What's In The Bag: Bag: Ghost Golf GT-14 Patriot Cart Bag Push Cart Mafia: 3-Wheel Golf Cart Driver: AI Smoke Max D 10.5* w/ Project X Denali Blue 60 Hybrid: AI Smoke 4H(21*) w/ Project X Cypher 2.0 70HYB Irons: 5-PW ZX5 MKII w/ KBS Tour Lite Wedges: CBX 4 Zipcore 50*, RTX 6 Zipcore 54*/58* Putter: DF3, Green 65*/35 Balls: Tour X Grips: Golf Pride MCC +4 Midsize Tech: Garmin Approach S70
Popular Post Jim Shaw
Good morning spy's I am going to say it is official, I am in a "ball striking slump" I had 3 tournaments in June and underperformed in all 3. My regular swing coach just moved to a new Head pro position and is really busy getting set up in his new surroundings so I reached out to a teaching pro at my course who has been doing a lot of teaching the past few years. I usually try and grind it out myself but I need another set of eyes. Anyway I hope everyone has a great day... snoopy79, sirchunksalot, ZJeb67 and 9 others 9 3 Quote committed to performance excellence
Popular Post tdroma98
Good Monday Morning Spies, It's been a beautiful and clear Monday morning in Central Florida. In the 80's this morning. No golf today, my wife insisted I sleep in (until 7:30) this morning after a long HOT & wet weekend of Ranger duties. T-storms hit yesterday afternoon, so I got to leave work at 4pm. It was hot on both Friday & Saturday, I needed to jump in the pool after both work days. Zero Commute Monday, working from home and on 3rd cup of espresso! MMM.. Have a Great Day Everyone and Hit'em Straight!
