The Good Morning Thread

Already got the results of yesterday's shoulder MRI: Rotator cuff tendinosis, mild AC joint degeneration, possible bursitis, no obvious tears. Nothing there too surprising, and I don't think there's anything there surgical. Have reached out to my ortho to see where we go from here. I can play golf with this, but I can't sleep very well, and that's my main issue at the moment,

Morning all. Back to work after 5 days away and the motivation level just isn't there right now. Luckily, none of my clients are processing today, so I can use the day as a bit of a breaking in period to get back into work mode. I've got a few organizational projects that I can work on that don't have tight deadlines, so at least I can keep myself busy without stressing today. Was a late night with the wife having to work late because a couple of no-call no-shows at her place. She ended up getting home around 1:00am and having to be back at work at 10:00am today.

Somehow, we ended up with two more kittens, a 1 month old, and a 3 month old. As if the house wasn't already overrun by furballs, we added two more, mostly against my wishes. Nothing too much planned for the day other than some work and a possible trip to the range to work on some wedge distances. For whatever reason, those partial wedge distances are the thing that I tend to have to practice the most often in order to keep them reliable. Whenever I don't work on them for a few weeks, I struggle hitting the right distances, especially in that 30-70 yard window.

I was shocked, after 6 or 7 years of playing the cancel renew game with SXM that company now has an AI driven chatbot that has the data that says I wont pay anything more than 6 bucks a month for their service. So it offered the same thing I listen to now for 5.99 a month, and yep, I took it. 

Here is a pic of my tested Claw Pro glove after around 80 rounds of golf in 100+ degree temperatures. An amazing hot weather glove, one I will purchase for next summer. You can see some of the silicone is starting to come off in my grip area and once that happens it will be retired. 

 

 

If any of you snowbirds are heading south this winter I cannot recommend this glove enough. It wears cool when it is hot, and it does not matter how sweaty your hand gets the glove never loses its gripping power. But, if it rains, take the glove off or you will toss your club into the next fairway. Getting it wet from the outside, like rain or picking up a very wet grip from setting a club down in dewy grass, well to me the glove is useless. 

I don’t know why but I just can’t get used to a glove. I hate wearing them.

I stopped wearing a glove last year shortly after finishing a glove testing, won't mention which one because what happened was entirely my own cause and the worn glove that should have been disposed of (but kept in a bag pocket and fished out when the current good glove was forgotten) merely provided the vehicle for whatever it was that a neglected well worn glove cultures.  Then, when put on a hand and worn for 9 holes it affected the skin on the back of the hand to where no glove could be worn until the skin response (read that as bad rash you would not wish on anyone) subsided.  So I played for the next month and a half without one and rash gone, never saw reason to put on another glove for golf as bare handed that worked so well for @Marc Threeput since I knew him was also working for me.  I have not worn a golf glove since August 2023.

I remember when I stopped wearing a glove, about 10 years ago, got a batch of bad gloves that kept tearing. I threw them out after being frustrated and haven’t really looked back. Scratch that, I did try a glove this season for about 5 seconds. Nope, no good.

For my first 30 years of golf, evidently I was squeezing the life out of the grips and thus had a lot of problems with blisters, and had to wear gloves as a result. Since my return to the game 2+ years ago, I'm not having any blister issues either during rounds or prolonged range sessions, gloves or no. Don't know if that's because of grip pressure, or using grips that are less abrasive (always cheap Golf Pride in the old days), or both. The main reason for me to continue with gloves, I guess, is if/when my hands become sweaty in hot weather.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Helene is up to 115, with 47 of those in North Carolina, and it shows no signs of stopping there. Of those 47, 35 are from the county which includes Asheville. UPDATE at 3:12 ET, deaths now up to 119. Remains at 47 in NC; not sure where the additional 4 occurred.

@tdroma98 glad to hear the cruise went well, and all is good in your part of Florida.

To those commenting on gloves, the only time(s) I wear a glove or gloves is if it is raining while playing, then I use Red Rooser Rain Gloves, or in the summer heat and humidity, I will wear the Red Rooster MGS glove.

Otherwise, gloveless for me, as I never have been a glove person at all, prefer to have bare hands.

Yeah that's not right. IMHO anything younger than, let's say, college that stuff absolutely needs to be ruled against *immediately*. Maybe a new strict penalty for younger kids football? Kids should *not* be using their helmets as weapons.

Just a thought along the lines of "golf reflects life" ... thinking one thing may be try to look at your reactions to the not so good shots, your feelings about being out on the course if it's busy, whatever .. and try to compare those experiences to what you recall of prior rounds pre-meds..?

Haha I've done the same dance a few times with them. I first had XM - before Sirius started up, so before they merged - and enjoyed it until the renewal price went up way over whatever I was paying at the time. Have restarted / stopped service a few times .. including in my wife's car, too .. just to get back on the cheapo deal. At that price it's worth it for me; anything higher nah not really.

Thanks for the update. My BIL lives in Charlotte by Norman. He’s good. But a lot of NC isn’t.

Mornin all!  

Another weekend past and now back at work again.  Found out over the weekend my daughters horseback riding trainer is moving so in search of a new trainer for her.  For some reason it seems people who teach horseback riding are not very good at returning phone calls 

I haven't worn a glove in probably 30 years.  Probably started out as getting tired of always buying new gloves but ended up just liking the feel  better without the glove.  I have the calluses to prove it

For someone who likes counterbalancing this might be a plus plus. I recently changed my mini driver to XStiff Velicore which changed the weight to C9. I hit it well so far. But adding more weight to the grip will probably force me to get weight kit for it to try to get back to at least a D3. D3/4 is my comfort zone.

Calluses on my fingers proves that I’m gripping in my fingers . My trigger finger has a massive callus where my knuckle crease is.

As much time as I spend on the road, even full price has been worth it to me. My saved channels are a mix of music, news and sports channels, and I hit all of them fairly regularly, plus listening to live sports events on the play by play channels. When I rent a car for work, I plug my phone into the car and listen to SXM through Android Auto. I almost never listen any more to what Howard Stern calls "terrestrial radio." But your hacks to get the reduced rate might be worth a try.

Just got back from getting my flu and COVID shots at the pharmacy (my PCP said they don't stock COVID shots any more at her place, so go ahead and do it there). Pretty much required by my company.

Meanwhile, Helene's toll is up to 128, with 56 in North Carolina. And they're having a heckuva time getting basics like water to the survivors.

Good afternoon spies!!! An update. Zoey is banned from the ice until two weeks from now at the earliest, and banned from school this week. She has to go to the dr every day until we leave for Austin Thursday. She has to wear ear plugs in Austin for her music festival. Other than that she’s ok!

It's tired Tuesday and I'm on the struggle bus to get going this morning. I always feel like my body is in shock on Monday then on Tuesday it knows what the deal is and punishes me. I'll be fine, it's just the way my mind works. 

It's nice and cool this morning with no rain in sight so I have a feeling it's going to be a good day.

Was an average day here, though my son and I did get out hair cut so there is that. It had been far too long so I was glad to get it done, also it was great to see my son jump in a bit on the conversation as I got my hair cut, as skill I never practiced as a kid and wish I did.

More wonderful fall weather going on here and I am looking forward to enjoying it today.

Got a morning stretch in after skipping all last week and ending up with a tweak in the neck after sleeping wrong.  (Who sleeps wrong?!?!?!)
I guess I've got enough mileage where I better not skip routine maintenance.

Neighboring city 9 hole course opens up today for their fall season and will allow the great unwashed to play.  Very excited to get out there and see how it is.

Busy day of work ahead as we're officially into October. Can't believe how fast this year is flying by. Hoping to have a productive next few days so we can leave for our upcoming weekend trip without guilt. Unfortunately being in October that means the golf season is quickly escaping us here in the Midwest. Praying for a long Fall to allow a few more good weekends on the links.

Had a good range session last night with the new P7CBs. Will get some first impressions up on the thread this week for anyone interested. Went back to one of the classic drills that I think everyone would benefit from: The Towel Drill. Tuck it under both armpits across your chest and it'll help immensely with maintaining connection throughout the swing as well as promoting a solid upper body turn.

I'm surprised to hear how many Spies go glove-less. My hands sweat far too much to consider that. I had a work happy hour at a Top Golf several years ago and attempted to go gloveless so I wasn't the "try-hard golfer" in the group. Ended up launching the iron off the bay after the hands started sweating too much.

@Northern Monkey enjoy the trip! We loved Rome during our honeymoon there last month. I'm sure you'll have a blast.
