Got out yesterday for a round and swing was a bit off except the SMS Pro PW from 115 to 100 yards. I love to play this knockdown shot at this distance and it was dialed yesterday as I made 3 yes three birdies from this distance with that club. On this shot I am loving the toe weight as it stops be from drawing this so it was straight lasers to 12, 5, and 12 feet and made them all. This led to my best ever -1 front nine where I only hit 4 greens. Of course we can skip the back as it was not good, through no fault of the Edels. Looking forward to next round. Also I if @Getoffmylawn @GolfSpy BOS @Triple_Putt or @ChitownM2 have a round scheduled for the weekend I am down for an irons and wedges only round.

It's nice idea but my only rounds this week are on the MSG outing and I'm damn sure not going irons-only down there!

Maybe I can get 9 in earlier in the week.  if I can, I'll go irons only...

Yesterday was just, wow.
While the 9 holes at Lyman’s orchard is pretty short, it’s tight and has some challenges that usually has me shooting 37 which is 8 over par. Well yesterday things went phenomenal with these Edel irons, resulting in shooting a 34! Even when I thought I might of caught the ball off the toe or a little fat, the ball still stayed relatively straight. This was the first time I’ve played this course and not hit the ball into an adjacent fairway.

Wish I took some pictures but got paired with a good group of guys that had me laughing the whole time and was rushing to get home and do a few things. A great short day on the course with the Edel Irons!

Shot me a 38 @ejgaudette @ChitownM2 @Triple_Puttand @GolfSpy BOS.

6/9 GIR, 6/7 FIR.

However, I did play from the forward tees.  Had my son with me and wanted to keep things moving.  If that’s a breach of the “irons only” round rules let me know and I’ll try again Thursday from the regular tees. Never did see any rules published after all.  And since the intent was to put the Edel’s in play, I teed off strictly with a 5 iron even though the rest of you have Edel 4 irons in the bag.  Just saying.

Don’t need no ladies tees to beat you ladies… 😂

Nice round!  Been crazy busy with work the past few weeks but managed to hit a few decent shots in my Monday night league that I should be posting about later tonight.

Maybe I can get to the par 3 this weekend but outlook is 50/50 since it's the final week of soccer and have away games both days.

Your right I didn't lay out too many rules. We can go by handicap though if we like, or forward tee challenge, as I think @Triple_Putt your round was at a shorter course correct? Or go handicaps from the forward tees? Hoping to get out this afternoon.

Oh and just because I have an Edel 4 iron doesn't mean I can hit it well 😅

Yes, definitely a short course. Perfect for this fat guy to get out and walk but not be completely dead after work.

Alright folks, so as a refresher from last week, you'll recall I posted launch monitor numbers (distance, spin, and dispersion) from manipulating the weight locations among the 3 "stock" 2 and 8 gram weights in the Edel irons.  So you don't have to scroll, here are those numbers again:

image.png.066f8a496a152728e4389cf5b9e9e3d0.png

As you can see, moving some mass to the heel helps me pretty significantly.

What I didn't post last week was the results of dropping the 8 gram weight altogether, and a 2, and plugging in the 6 and 4 gram weights Edel generously included as part of this test.  After installing those weights (a very painless and easy process), here are the results of putting 6 grams in the heel and 4 in the center, or 6 in the center and 4 in the heel.

Edel264.png.b7843398f07661b18ee91f0fa9248795.png

The 6 gram in the heel position produced my best distance numbers by 1 yard, while the 4 gram in the heel produced 1 yard less distance but saw my best dispersion numbers across the 10 shots.

So, this is how I arrived at a 2-6-4 weight configuration across my irons.  I've moved a little bit of mass to the heel, and it's making a significant difference in ball-striking and overall performance.

Swing Match Weighting works folks!

As I mentioned earlier today I was able to get out for a late afternoon round on Sunday as well as my 9 hole league on Monday night.  Sunday was a solid improvement over how I've been playing the last few months and the irons really shone for me.  My ball striking was improved and I managed to hit 3 of 5 greens on the par 3s and convert them to pars.  First par 3 was #6 and dead into a strong wind, which I underestimated slightly but still managed to get decent distance out of.  With my Srixon gamers I averaged about 155 with my 7 and I've been longer with the SMS which is consistent with what Arccos tracked.

Very similar situation on #13, still into the wind but slightly across this time and managed to still hit it equal to my gamer 9.

Things on Monday were even better where I shot a 42 for my low 9 of the year so far.  Irons and woods were both dialed in at the simultaneously for once.  Managed to score well on both par 3s on the front which is an extreme rarity for me since they both always get the best of me.  Highlight was definitely #6 where I managed to hit the green and drain a 40 footer for a bird.  I followed that up with an excellent drive on #7 and the SMS gap wedge to pin high.  The green has a wicked slope to it so I was happy to lag my 12 ft putt to tap in distance and take my par.

It's amazing how much more fun golf is when you have confidence and score well.  I'm hoping this is a turning point for my season and my long game can keep up with the performance I've been getting out of the SMS irons so far because they are what has been carrying me up to this point.

Still trying to figure out the plans for the weekend but will probably be at the par 3 or to the range to do a final head to head with my Z585s and my Mevo.  Might also play around with the weights and swap the 10 gram into the toe and see what kind of effect it has.

Thanks guys - I'm extremely interested in this test. I absolutely love the look of that sole - I'm going for a wedge fitting in a couple of weeks and have included Edel in the group - not ready to spring for a set of irons just yet - I'm happy with my Wilson D7 forged, they are performing well enough and we bought a new van for Penny so laying out $1,200 isn't in the cards for this summer.

But - the eyes are starting to wander and this is exactly where they are wandering towards - if not this then Srixon so it's ideal to have someone who plays those testing these.

Driver: Taylor Made Xi10 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  R flex   - 44.25

Fairways:  Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood  Alta CB red 65 R flex

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

Heading out soon for another league night with the SMS irons and will report back tomorrow.

Can't say I'm at all surprised to see the SMS with such a strong finish in the most wanted results posted today.  Lots of contenders in the players distance category and finishing 6th will forgot makes others take notice of the performance these clubs offer!

Got out for round on Sunday and it was an odd round. Started out with a birdie after a great drive and shot to 7 feet and draining the putt. The proceeded the three putt, the next and just struggle a bit. I felt the irons were having a bit of a tough day but after reviewing the data and really the last 6 holes or so really turned things around for the Edels and I think the biggest reason is I was not accounting for the new distances. These irons are 2 degrees weaker starting from about the 8 iron up than my previous set, so I had not been accounting for this. When I took 5 yards off the stock yardages, things go so much better. Hit a few more greens and left it just green side much more often. With the highlight being this 7 iron to 6 feet from 165 to 6 feet (just ignore that putt). This culminated in finishing with 6 straight pars to salvage a decent round. It is a big advantage for me as my short game is pretty solid so if I can leave it green side with a shot of 20 to 25 yards I can get up and down a fair bit.

This resulted in one of my best rounds from a strokes gained approach standpoint since May of last year, when compared to a scratch I lost only -2.2 strokes on approach. Typically I lose between -3.5 and -4.5 in a round. So great result with the Edels. Looking forward to applying the new yardages for a whole round and seeing where that leaves me. Just need to turn it all in to a bit more scoring.

Is this the arcos sensors and app giving you this data ! I love this !!

@ChitownM2 is using Arcoss but mine is Shot Scope which has sensors and a watch. The two biggest companies for shot tracking.

Stealing @Getoffmylawn's idea, I too have made my own chart to see how the Swing Match System actually effects my swing!  Over two nights at the public simulator, I scribbled down numbers on my notepad and swapped out weights(which is a total breeze I might add), and had quite a few folks come over and ask the obvious "what the heck are you doing man?" as they passed by to grab another beverage from the bar. I imagine I looked something like this:

888358.jpeg.d4197d68bd2b1b518214b1f9526fa57d.jpeg

After chatting, they all wanted to give the Edels a try though, which I gladly handed out to give myself a break and try to keep the numbers consistent!

So here is what I ended up finding.  For each, I hit 12 balls and threw out the best and worst, leaving me 10 balls to average(easier math for me) for each.  Each chart was for each night, and you can see where my weights are trending, at least on paper.

ScreenShot2023-06-13at8_38_57PM.png.917f52d2e05e890e367ca6e30ebf8d1d.png

ScreenShot2023-06-13at8_39_53PM.png.1106eb8dcbc6db558c2c53f88c2823c0.png

From the data it appears that having more weight out by the toe allows me to carry the ball the farthest, and is a middle ground on keeping it going in the same spot each time. The higher I weighted the heel, the worse things got for me.  Obviously my yardages are on the lower side, and my side to side dispersion is on the high side(I am a high handicapper after all), but compared to my current gamers these Edels are a huge improvement in getting the ball where I want with a lot more confidence.

On the course they are helping keep my confidence up I am trusting my little yardage cheat sheet for each club more and more.

I have two more tee times scheduled in the next week and am looking forward to keeping the testing going!  Any questions feel free to ask!

Plus from what I'm seeing here the Edel irons are at a disadvantage in a test like the Most Wanted one because a big selling point is to dial in the weights.  Perhaps Csnoil will be peaking in here and can enlighten us as to whether or not testers were allowed to do that or not (probably used the generic setting.)

So the SMS would be the "Player's Distance" one?

Also I have a question about the sole.  Is there a difference between the sole in the Pro and the straight SMS?  Is the turf interaction noticeably different?  I will be looking to replace my irons at the end of this season - I love the D7 forged, they've been very good to me but they are coming up on their 4th birthday so it's just about time (4-5 years for irons for me.)

I'm heading for an edel wedge fitting in a couple of weeks.  But if I get a couple of those wedges they will have a grind that will be different from what the irons will be like.

Very interested in the sole turf interaction of the irons and the type of conditions you guys are playing in.  Thanks
