Tested the new T150 irons out yesterday and was thoroughly impressed. Currently gaming Ping i200 irons with no real complaints. I wouldnt mind a bit more cushion with toe and thin shots, but otherwise very pleased with the i200. The T150 offered the forgiveness I was looking for in a tour-style head. The head was surprisingly smaller than i expected behind the ball, but it offered plenty of help for me. Currently a 5.8 and looking for a consistent iron. Can't wait to go back and test them against the new Apex and Mizuno pro irons that are eventually coming out.

So had my fitting today for T Series.

A little background. I am playing off a 10 right now. Have been as low as a 6, but that would take some work to get back to.

Not so long ago I played Cobra AMP Cell Pros calling @chisag and truly loved them. However smarter choices lead me to to the Ping i series and then I played the Ping i210 from member testing till later this year. I switched to the Sub70 659 TC and while I really like them the forgiveness wasnt quite there. I found a cheaper set of P790s and went with those which is the current set I am in. Bottom line I have played various irons, had success with many of them as well and while there are some I love to look of I am not too fussed. I recognize that my game needs some help to improve.

Fast forward to the fitting today. Showed up early hit about 40 balls for warm up with my clubs and worked my way through the bag in a normal routine. I was the first fitting and when Kevin from Titleist was setup he called me over so we started a few minutes early.

We had talked about this shaft before (I have had a fitting with him before) and had kinda thought this could be one I got along with. I have never tried it, so was excited.

First thing I noticed about the T100 was holy cow the turf interaction is unlike any other club I have ever hit. Period. So so so good. I wasnt put off by the size of the head, but there were misses. Feel of the T100 is on point as well.

Next shaft up was the KBS Tour Lite Stiff. First swing was smooth easy and the thing flew for days. Seriously impressed, however when I went after it a little bit I started to loose the ball left and right. So onto the next!

Nippon Modus 105 Stiff. I have played this shaft in several sets and the best way I can describe it was familiar. Good solid load point and feel through, but the ball did go awfully high. Like a lot higher than I was expecting. Strikes were the same, it just helped produce this extra height.

Last one we went with was the Project X LZ. In truth I didnt know what shaft he put in on any of these. I just took the club and went with it. I really liked the LZ and with the little extra weight I did feel I was going after them a little more and the weighting was different, not bad different but different. I also had a bit more of a fade with this shaft.

Back to the IO and it was the clear winner, stripped a few. Felt great, timing was there so with it checking all the boxes it was what we decided on.

So shaft selected onto trackman (now that it was finally somewhat charged up)

T100 numbers 153 carry, 162 total. 1.34 smash factor and overall he was very happy with the numbers. In truth given they were range balls it left a bit of doubt, but not in the numbers it was getting but what I should expect.

We then put the T150 in and while a slight bit bigger it really isnt much at all. It was also so much easier to hit and we saw an instant jump of 4-5 mph ball speed. Carry bumped up 10 ish yards. I was thrilled.

T200 next up and first several were great. I will admit I didnt see the numbers on this as trackman shutoff again, but the feel wasnt that much worse than the T150, but the size to me was noticeably bigger. Not a turn off, but noticeable. Flights were good and overall I couldnt really complain. It didnt have that wow factor of the 150 to me though.

With everything hit (we had done T350  a previous time) it was down to set make up etc. He was pretty insistent in putting me into the T100 irons and then T150 in the 5 and 4.

I have to be honest I am not sold. Yes I can hit all of those and dont think I dont have the game to play it, but I keep doubting the selection.

I should have asked why the T100 over the T150 with the added forgiveness etc. I didnt though, that is my fault and partly due to running out of time and a in part of shock that this was what were my results.

I didnt place the order on the spot and want to sleep on it some more. The other part is I dont even carry a 4 iron in my bag. I have a 4 crossover and other clubs however rarely use them because I prefer my 3 wood or 5 iron.

In my heart I know what I should do and I am going to do a little more research tonight. At least I know I can hit them all and am not intimidated by any of them, however keep going back to golf is hard enough as is. What not give myself a little extra help? It isnt like I try to work the ball all the time.

Great write up Jamie - seeing your write up on the 100s has me very intrigued. I would lean towards a mixed set too, especially since the visual setups seem to be pretty similar (always good to have that extra forgiveness if all other things are equal).

Good news that the numbers were great as no matter which set make up you end up choosing, you really can’t go wrong: Both the T100s and T150s are absolutely stunning irons in terms of looks and performance IMO.

As for the Project X iO shaft, this shaft occupies a really good spot in Project x’s line-up I think. It really fills this spot were players who like to feel the shaft load in transition can still achieve a lower and penetrating ball flight instead of having to go with the standard Project X shaft which can sometimes feel a bit boardy.

... First off, what a great detailed post! Thanks for sharing your experience and so much good stuff in there. 😍

... Obviously the decision is yours and yours alone. But here is my 2.5 cents. Ask yourself this question. If you go with a full set of T150's and play them well, will you look back and 2nd guess why you didn't go with T100s? Or when missing just a little with T100's, will you look back and 2nd guess why you didn't go with the slightly more forgiving T150s? I believe the difference is subtle but a difference non the less and I have always felt players at any level should always play the most forgiving irons they can effectively play. Obviously one of the reason even Tour Pro's play more forgiving long irons. If it were my decision, and the T100 and T150 were very similar, both looked good at address and I liked the feel of both?  I would not hesitate to go full T150 and never give it a second thought.

I am glad you thought  it was detailed... I felt like I was rambling on!

I have been building the set online and know that I wont be going straight T100 as fitted. Just doesnt seem to make enough sense to go down that road. It really felt like he was pushing them and again I hit them fine, but this is on a flat lie, same spot over and over same club so you can get into a rhythm.

This was a good fitting experience overall, just not in the way I had expected.

This is super interesting. It seems like if you had the T100’s in the shorter irons, you wouldn’t have the confidence or trust in them as much as you would the T150’s. That alone may be worth just going T150 throughout the bag, especially if at address, the difference doesn’t distract you. Looking forward to see what you order, and the results after reviewing them. Keep us posted!

Trackman was being charged so he had me go through shafts without trackman and just work off feel. Roughly 5-10 balls per shaft. I was expecting to get tossed the t200 or even t350 to start, but that was not to be. First thing he grabbed was the t100 and put in the Project X IO 6.0.

Sounds like an awesome experience, Jamie! Super jealous as I really want to hit the T200s to see what I could do with them. May do a Titleist fitting one of these days just for the heck of it.

... Sheesh ya greedy basturd HO!  😱  Ya just got a full bag of new clubs including brand new killer irons that according to you:

"I was hesitant to test the Aerojet irons as my preference was the Tec X. The thought that kept creeping into the back of my mind was that the irons with the same name as the driver line that year were “lesser” irons. I am happy to say that I was proven wrong and have loved these irons. They are packed with technology and great for high handicap golfers working on improving their game. I am proof of this as during the challenge my handicap has already lowered from 26.1 to 22.6. These will have a spot in my bag for quite awhile. "

@GolfSpy_APH, I really enjoyed the work and it was awesome to read about your experience with the Titleist fitting. It sounds like you have a difficult decision to make in whether to go with a mixed set or go straight up T-150. I'm kind of leaning toward what @chisag said and going with the most forgiving set you feel like you can play. Either way, I'm excited to hear what you go with, Jamie.

@GolfSpy_APH you could split it more evenly. 100s is scoring clubs and 150s in 4-7 or so? Best of both worlds??

I agree there. I feel a combo might work. I’d personally do 4-6 as the 150’s and the 100’s in the lower clubs.

when I got fit for my driver, I hit the rpm’s the fitter was looking for on the head he thought I’d like the least. That’s the one I have in play now.

I agree though that golf is hard enough. Thats such a true statement. Why make it harder?

... Kinda interesting, I used the Titleist Iron Selector Tool and as a 1 index it recommended the T150s. I am quite happy with my Cobra King Tours/MIMs but if I were gonna buy a new set, it would be T150's 5-pw bent 1* weak and a standard loft 4 iron. One of the things I don't care for in many Player Distance iron is 5* gaps and the T150's have a 4* gaps. Sweet.

So I built my hypothetical and don’t understand how I can justify playing $1700 at this point. When my current set was under $1000. Maybe my mind will change if I get fit again in the next 2-5 years, possibly as part of an iron test.

... Crazy ain't it? Even worse for us old timers. We used to pay $499 or less for a forged iron set, play 'em a while and sell 'em for $450 if we kept them in really good shape. Now we pay $1700, play em awhile and if we can't sell 'em, we trade them in for $700. 😳

Very good write up @GolfSpy_APH of the Titleist Irons!  The T150 iron write up is really interesting, especially since I used to play the Titleist AP2 irons. The AP2 irons were great!  Also I like the irons come with the LZ stock shaft.  MGS does it again!

Love the blended set, @GolfSpy_APH! Almost every fitting video I’ve seen on YouTube so far has ended in a blended set of some kind as well. Really goes to show how going into a fitting with a completely open mind can allow the fitter to just do their thing and optimize the clubs to the fullest potential for the individual.

Honestly no. I've played ping glide wedges and now my Mizuno s23. I appreciate the extra help those give and felt vokeys there may be a bit too punishing from what I want.

Hope you love the new clubs @GolfSpy_APH.  Eager to hear your thoughts and results.  That looks like a great and logical blend.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.
