fozcycle
I played Champions Pointe, Fuzzy Zoeller's course just north of New Albany today with my daughter's BF....we played the Silver tees at 5,955 yards. I shot 43/43.....86, with a Birdie on the 1st hole!...Terrific layout, loved playing on bluegrass again. The Fairways, Tees and Greens were very plush. The cost was only $57/2 rounds instead of the $75/round if you walk up. Got a deal off Golfnow as it was within 90 minutes of the posted tee time. We also had to wait out a storm front that passed thru after the 2nd hole.....we dealt with rain that passed so we could continue uninterrupted, albeit we were wet but dried out before we hit on 18. revkev
revkev, I'll be in Tampa for 6 days in Oct for a wedding. I have heard that the TPC of Tampa is a great place to play, is it worth trying to sneak in a round?Yes and if the timing is right we picked up a 10 round pass for 600 which has to be uses by December. mbrodeur86
Got to love it. Played club de la vallee de temiscouata in Quebec Canada for the first time Sunday and shot an 80 lol. The winds were howling around 40 km/h and it was around 10 degrees Celsius when we started. Got 4 birdies. They have it was 37 for the front and 35 in the back. I went 40 40. Dropped my handicap to 5.9 with that round. Hope this is a sign of things to come. Badfish
Feeling pretty good. Just had my first under par round of the year last night. Granted the course wasn't very difficult (115 slope). Par 72, I managed a 70 with a 7 on a par 4 (ob). This has been an awfully poor season for me thus far. While I have broken in to the 70's on a few occasions, I have been primarily scoring in the 80's. So I hope I can keep everything working to some extent lol. Jmikecpa
Played a charity scramble today with myself off scratch, a 1.4, a 3.6 and a 9.2. Needless to say we played well and shot a -14 58. For a change I drove it well and putted very well (for me anyway). Not sure if we won it or not since I skipped out on the dinner to get home and see the kids. revkev
Pencil whippers! Jk Jk. Nice to see a charity scramble not being won by "-20" for once. It's always amazing isn't it. My favorite charity scramble story was one for a college. Mequon WI country club using all three nines with multiple groups in every hole over 200 players including several members of the Milwaukee Bucks (Ray Allen era). Our second hole was the long drive hole. I got into one down wind which means it went around 265 (this was 15 years ago). After we finished the hole it started pouring so everyone came in. When we went back on the course over an hour later it was soaking wet and the wind was howling the opposite way. My drive held up! I can only imagine what that crowd thought when I went up for that prize. I had no business winning it and most certainly not with that crowd. Last scramble I played, it was me off a 1 another long dude off 2, a 10 that could putt the lights out and another 15 or so that hit it 300+ like me and the 2 handi. We played VERY well and shot -14 on a tough golf course in windy conditions and came in 5th. 5th... Like common. If we had played perfect I could've maybe seen -16 but thats PERFECT. revkev
A final word on scrambles to put them in perspective. I uses to play in a 5 man that was for big money. I forget the exact restrictions but they were something like if a Pro no other single digit and only 2 single digits on a team and team total had to be at least 60. 16 or 17 always won and 14 was always 5th (Last money spot). You needed an eagle on a long par 4 or an ace to win a skin and I saw an ace cut one year. That lie doesn't look all that bad; yeah, I would go 9i, PW, 1putt. The absolutely worse lie I have ever had playing in Bermuda was at Marco Island in Naples. You couldn't even see the ball unless you were standing on top of it! Very hard to hit anything, and easy to miss the shot with a wedge since you don't know how far down in the grass it is. A wedge can go right underneath it. revkev
The worst Bermuda I've ever seen is at Sawgrass. I was it was like that when the tour guys play there. The rough at SPCC where we were yesterday is fair. It's an old course though so the grass is very nature and strong. You can it the ball out of it but it's extremely difficult to control. For our exetremely lie handicappers the guy who had that lie is right around scratch and has been as low as a plus 2. He didn't think of going for the green from there but there is also all kinds of trouble on all sides of the green with no way to chunk and run it. We also just had a thunderstorm so it was wet. Kor.A.Door
Played in the 1st round of the member member today, we as a team got off to a horrible start, I woke up and had serious back spasms going on, I could hardly move, the spasms stopped but it was very very sore, I couldn't swing very well, then while on the range warming up, my partner hit about 3 wedge shots, about 3/4 swings, and said dude, I just felt something pop in my elbow, so he had somewhat of a stinger and he was hurting, so anyway we started and went 3 over through 5, but we limped in at 1 under from there so we finished at 74, which is pretty much the best score we could have had for the way we played, the other thing is that we are in the flight that we wanted, we can't compete with all the scratch golfers, so this puts us in the 1st flight where we can win if we play to our capabilities, and stay injury free. My back finally stopped hurting on hole 14, and his elbow felt better around 15. So hopefully we can get a better start tomorrow, and finish strong. fozcycle
Played Duckers Lake Golf Club, just outside Frankfort, Ky yesterday. Probably the best shape I have ever seen there. Bluegrass and Bentgrass greens were tough to read for speed. I shot a 45/44...89 on 5,855 yards. Struck the ball well, but had a few errors, such as hit my drive too long on first hole and lost it through the fairway on dogleg right. I played with one of my high school classmates. We get together for a round every time I visit. Overall great day, enjoyed visiting with my friend. They had a Bridgestone ball fitting. revkev
Shot 73 today. I hit lots of great approach shots but could only make 1 birdie all day. Did have a great par when I had to punch out of the trees and absolutely stiffed my wedges from 93 yards. The course that I played actually has some spots on it that are below sea level. Not much run out there. It also has several nasty doglegs right, not my favorite. Oh yeah, hit the M1 okay, actually better than okay on the back 9. jlew2144 and MattF 2 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
Kenny B
This past week my rounds have not been that good for a number of reasons, and my HCP looked like it might start trending up. But this weekend was better. On Saturday I drove the ball fairly well, but couldn't putt; still shot 81. Today I couldn't hit the driver very well at all and putting was just OK, but still managed to shoot 79. The bad drives didn't really cost me that much, and I recovered great to get on the greens. No doubles, just 9 bogeys to go with 2 birdies. Now if I could just put all of my game together for one round... numberonecoog
Its gone off the rails on the tee box. I cant keep driver or 3 wood on the reservation. Starts right and turns right. I went out one day and this appeared. Its killing my game. Im hitting 3 off a lot of tee boxes. When I poke it out into the fair way somehow my scores are significantly lower. Hell putting it where I can find it in the rough makes a huge difference Quote Check out my personal Equipment Blog and Podcast!
