KevinJ
I have spent $300.00 on a putter and would pay a little more depending on the feel. I play with an old Taylormade ROHO II for 15 years and loved the weight, look and feel. I now have an Odyssey putter for the past 4 years and think it is great. Not only does it look good, but the feel and weight are perfect. I do not change my putter out very often and now days not too many designs out now I can say I really like. To me the putter does not take the abuse like such as the driver and irons do so I feel I can use the putter for a much longer period. RoverRick
I will also say I bought a new Scotty in 2018 for $300+. Traded it and bought an Evnroll ER5B for about $400. mackdaddy
To be clear I have a custom putter fitted and made for me. I have had it for over 20 years. It is never leaving my bag! I paid $150 for it. I would pay up to about $1,000 to get a putter built just to fit me. To answer the question. I have tried to replace it over the years with something that people would admire. My arrogance got in the way of my play. I won a Scotty Circle T, for a closest to the hole in a big money charity outing. It was not set up for my game and didn't work as well as my custom! Sold it for over $2500 I went through a putting slump and bought a Bettinardi SS9 Hexperimental from a friend for $500 and sold it for just over $1000. When the Evnroll ER2 won the best putter from MGS I got one. All of those putters felt amazing and looked great, everyone admired them! None of them were as good for me and my putting, as the custom putter made for me. The best thing I did was realize that the putter that was made to the weight, lie, loft, length, balance and grip I need may look plain and simple but I putt the lights out with it! With age I have learned That My game is where my pride comes from not the equipment I can put in my bag! I can afford to bag 5 star Honma clubs covered in gold. So what! They don't make me a better golfer. I will play what gives me the best chance to score! You will find nothing in my bag for popularity. Beakbryce
I wouldn't pay more than $175. It may be half the strokes, so maybe practice more if it's that important. Besides, I just bought within the last 6 months my forever putter. An Odyssey 11. Along with the clam shell grip, cured my yips. This would be slightly off topic, but I might pay more for a lesson on a good way to read greens than an actual putter. I would go to an Aimpoint lesson if it didn't look so, uh, weird? I see the pros doing it and they still miss! I can see the advantage for short putts. However, I watch in amazement as they walk a long putt stopping every few feet. Makes me fast forward the golf telecast. Seems to me on long putts a general read and speed is way more important than analyzing every inch of the putt. I don't know where 70% make is, maybe 10 ft for the tour average? I wish someone with the stats would have a comparison on putting distance longer than where the stats point to worse than 70% make would have a comparison between aimpoint and just looking at it. And how long it takes. I have played the same greens for 23 years and still can't read them. With the change in grass type twice a year they putt totally different. Just when I think I have it down, the new grass comes in. Then for 6 weeks they putt about 6 on the stimp and then when finally cut to greens height, anywhere on any given day, 8-12. Plus the other courses in my old age community have a 2 totally different surface grasses than the military course I play the most. Speeds are totally different for all 4 courses. Honestly, if I had to say one thing pros do better, it would be going to totally different putting surfaces as often as they do and still putting well. mackdaddy, Cfhandyman and Stuka44 3 Quote Driver: Callaway Epic 9 degree, stiff (set at 10 degrees with the movable weight in the center} FW: Callaway Epic 3,5, heaven wood w/ regular shaft (driver shaft in 3 wood, 3 wood shaft in 5 wood, 5 wood shaft in heaven wood, all three set at neutral plus 1 degree) Hybrids: Callaway BB19 4,6,7 (4 set at neutral plus 1 degree and 6 and 7 set at neutral minus 1 degree for gapping purposes) Irons: Callaway Rogue ST Max 8, 9, PW Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM6 50,54,58 Ball: Titleist Pro V1, 1X, Vice Pro Plus or anything I find that day and try out for the fun of it (I haven't bought balls with my own money in at least 10 years)

Scott M
Fitting is probably the smartest thing to do first. This will tell you a lot about what type of putters fit you (blade, mallet) and what neck type (slant, double-bend, etc.), not to mention length, lie, etc. I can not putt worth a damn with a toe-hang, blade style putter. However, you put a mallet style head with a double-bend neck and that is a different ball game based on my stroke type (straight back/through). Then just test those style of putters and find one that works for you, then find yourself the best deal. THEN...you will truly know what your "real" price range is mackdaddy 1 Quote Driver: ZX5 10.5, HZRDUS Smoke 6.0 3HL Wood: Stealth 2 16.5* 7 Wood: Ping G410 Plus 4/5 Hybrid: M4 Hybrids Irons: SUB70 699s (6-AW), Project X 5.5 Graphite Wedges: Glide 3.0 (54, 58 EYE2), Ping Z-Z115 Putter: White Hot RX, V-Line Fang, Super Stroke 3.0, Spyder X, Super Stroke 1.0 Ball: Z-Star XV, White
kgv0622
Apparently, the most I would pay for a putter is $200.00. I say that because I just bought an EvenRoll ER11 for that price in like new condition and that is, to date, the most I've spent on a putter in my over 60 years of golfing. I went into my local golf shop to get a pack of tees that I always use and started fooling around with the ER11 and couldn't miss with it. These were all 10-12 foot putts, not short ones. I normally would have put it away quickly and got out of there, but, I've always wanted an EvenRoll and this was one that someone had recently traded in and looked brand new (probably a 90-day return free deal). It originally sold new for around $415 and I figured I'd never get another opportunity to own on at anywhere near that price. So, it's in the bag and I'll be testing in on course this week. We've had rain the last couple of days so it looks like I'll get it on the course on Friday. Beakbryce and Cfhandyman

Stuka44
I will likely not pay anything for a new putter. I have my time tested Ping Scottsdale Wolverine. I have found with continued dedicated practice, my make percentage for makeable putts (less than 10 feet) has gone up and up. Especially less than 6 feet. So until I can get some guarantees that an expensive putter will do more than just continued practice, I'll just keep practicing. But like most things with this game. If you think something will help you it probably will. I am an empirical, numbers person, so someone telling me this will make me better, just isn't enough. Bronco
I just bit the bullet, and ordered a LAB DF 2.1 Broomstick. So, I guess the answer to your question is about $600. I've been looking to replace my Ping DOC 15.5L for awhile. I got a full bag fitting a couple of years ago at club champion, but they didn't have any long putters compare. $600 is a lot of money to me, but I tend to keep my clubs for a long time. I bought a used Odyssey Dart long putter, but it couldn't beat out the Ping. I also looked in refinishing the Ping, but putting $200-$300 into a 15 - 20 year old putter made me hesitate. Ultimately, I figure I'm due for a new putter and dog gone it I deserve it! Now just the agonizing wait for it to come. 48" Red, white shaft, triple white long alignment lines.
