What are some essential golf accessories?

Recommended Posts

I was looking to buy a push cart for my golf bag when I went down the rabbit hole of golf accessories. Like;, ball marks, club brushes, training tools ETC. when I was looking I asked my self the question is it worth it to spend 50$ on something I may or may not use on the course, or something that will just sit in my bag. So I just wanted some golfer input!

@Blakep welcome to the forums. Glad to see another Michigander. Used to live down that way. Wife worked at UofM. Bag accessories. Watering brush for sure but I keep that in the truck as over time they might leak. A wet towel and a dry towel work best for me along with a stiff bristle nylon brush for after each shot. Takes too seconds to clean the grooves. Divot tool for sure and as you mentioned ball markers. Roll of golfers tape. Sunglasses and case.  Is Huron Hills still open? Used to love that hilly place, Such small greens made it a hoot.

Off the top of my head, I have in my bag: pitch mark repair tool, rangefinder, ball marker clip and Sharpie, extra towel, rain hood, light pullover, first aid kit (band aids, Ibuprofen, etc.), sunscreen, sunglasses, rain gloves, club/ball cleaner (https://a.co/d/73uhmSD), club brush. I think that's it!

Of course I have a good club brush. My best accessory is a pouch for my golf gloves. I can keep 4 gloves and some tees in it. I have several very special ball markers as well

Welcome to the forum!  We're lucky to have so many good courses to play here in Michigan.

When carrying, I try to keep it to a minimum but essentials for me are ball marker/divot tool combo, tees, small first aid kit, and towel.  If I'm using my push cart I might add my rangefinder, GrooveIt brush (similar to what @russtopherb posted), extra glove, and a cooling towel for under my hat/around my neck.

@DweedThank you so much for the advice! Super funny I actually work at Huron hills in we are still open and the course is in great condition!

For a short muni, it really is a super fun course. Hitting down off of 9 all I can see is a ball hitting into traffic. Of course that can't happen for the avg golfer. But still. Glad the place is still open. Fun local course.

I go with an umbrella, a ball mark repair tool, a hands towel, a club towel, a dime to mark my
ball, and off the top of my head, that's about it.

They took my steel spikes away years ago--I'm still resentful--but now I don't need a brush for my spike-less shoes.

I used to carry a resin bag years ago (I don't wear a glove) but it was messy and I no longer bother.

Essential: Towel (one dry towel is enough for me)

Nice to have: Divot tool and first aid kit/athletic tape.

In-between: Club brush and ball marker (depends on a few things.  A tee works well enough 99% of the time for both).

Some of the other stuff that has been listed I wouldn't consider golf accessories, like sunglasses and sunscreen.  But yeah, you'd want those with you.

sand bottle for the push cart is a good accessory! I do like a good brush that has a retractable line on it!

For me, the critical things I use for every round:

  • A few tees
  • A divot repair tool (you can get expensive ones, but the ones courses give you work fine)
  • Something to mark my ball; I usually use a US quarter, plus a club-logo one that's "flat"
  • A Sharpie (blue, for me)
  • A wet towel and a dry towel (or a bigger towel with wet and dry ends)
  • A water bottle
  • Rangefinder and Garmin GPS

As for the most important accessory?🙂

Smaller in size but every golfer should have a divot tool and ball mark. Don't want to be out of place on the green. Something that actually shaved strokes off my game is a range finder. As I improved it was crucial to know how far my 7 iron actually went, and how far my wedges landed...after some time getting the yardages dialed in, my approach shots got much, much closer to pin high, or your target landing area. That left me with shorter putts and then lower scores. I use the range finder to also check yardages to clear a ravine or hazard, even off the tee box...it's a must have in my opinion! Plenty of options, I currently play a Blue Tees version with slope.
