TaylorMade Release Event/Announcement

Recommended Posts

This speaks to the perception that many people have... the balls are all the same, I can't tell the difference.

IF TaylorMade (or anyone else for that matter) can convince people they can add 10 more yards, without losing anything around the green, (and without compromising feel) then it might work, but that's the only way.

Yeah, I'll take ten more yards with the same greenside spin. Sign me up for a box of TaylorMade Heptas. :D They are bound to be beter than a Penta or Hex.

The only difference I've found in the TP5 vs original Penta is durability. My Callaway MD grooves are a bit nicer on the TP5 on shots in the 50-100 yard range vs what they did to the original Penta. I haven't been able to find a significant difference on the course between the two balls.

If TaylorMade released a Hepta I'd be a customer for life. Not because Hepta is a cool name, but because I'd make it a cool name.

Or, they could do what they seem to be doing now and perfect the 5-layer technology. Keep it at that, go back to just Penta TP with a new graphic to distinguish it from old model and go after the ProV1.

Titleist should release the ProV2. That would be epic.

We actually spoke with Titleist at the PGA show about the possibility of a ProV2. Safe bet it won't happen. Not only is the ProV1 the #1 ball in golf, it's practically got #1 in the name? In this case 1 > 2. Still...I think at some point (maybe not any time soon), they'll need to throw something out there that suggests evolution. It won't happen until somebody makes a real dent in their market share.

They just released the Velocity....not sure how that's doing, but I think they'd do well with a spin-off of the ProV, such as a ProV1z. New ball......same legacy recognition.

I'm really curious about this one. You normally don't see extra distance claims in the premium line of golf balls. The USGA has initial velocity limits and an overall distance standard that they test before approving balls. Unless TM has a new dimple pattern that they are going to claim does magical things, I don't have any idea what it is. I would think that the aerodynamics of dimple patterns has already been researched to the nth degree by every ball manufacturer. So I'll be watching to see what all the hype is about this time.

So we're pretty much sure it's a new ball. It's gotta be Project 5, maybe rebranded though. SOH's irons were prototypes in his bag with the zebra pics, no way it's ready for production and distribution already. Those will be PGA show releases.
