sai-jin
MBP or SaiJin, how about a new thread with the dietary program? Many of us will greatly appreciate it! I think it has to be more personalized for me to be able to give you a plan. I have to know a lot of things about you and the plan will change every 3 weeks for 2x then every week. But yea, just send me a PM if any of you need help.
westy
Blimey what a great range of answers so far - its a bit humbling when people have clearly had some bad sh@t going on and they just want to be fit enough to play. To you folks good luck. To those wanting to get fitter; Well I suspect a thread will be live very soon for those of you needing moral support. It's also great to see that on MGS we aren't all playing off +2 or 26; everyone encouraging everyone else with their own equally valid goals. A 3 handicap trying to get to 2 that's really hard; the same is just as true of that breakthrough from shooting 91 to regular 88's. Good luck to you all! I love this time of the year - for me the season always starts masters Saturday; I won't miss much on the tv being in the UK (time difference can be a big help) but that's when my course has its first stroke play off the back pegs of the year and the combination has my palms itching. Paul S
I only estimate my HC based upon playing from the blues at my home course from last year (71.5 slope, 127 rating, par 72 and about 6600yds), though I'd like to be below 5 this year and consistently be consistently in the 70s. Playing with my boss, who's a 2, always gives me a tangible goal to shoot for. If I can get to his level, I'll be happy. I generally don't feel that far of, but I had struggled with consistency. Thanks to video, I've picked up on the deficiencies of my swing that resulted in me compensating. I feel like I have since learned how to swing more correctly, and thus more consistently. We'll see, but I love reading everyone's goals here. Spring is (almost) here! MattF
Play more than last year, which I will be able to accomplish quite easily. Drop my handicap about 5 or so points...18 from my current 23 would be great! Shoot in the high 80's instead of the low 90's on a consistent basis. Kor.A.Door
My goals are to cut about 2-4 stokes off hc. I too am in the middle of losing weight, I weigh myself only once a week, and right it down so I can see where I came from and where I am going, I would like to get down and stay between 225-230, I started out at 270 at the end of Feb, I am down to 251 so I still have a little ways to go. I really would like to find some individual tournaments to play in the area, but really don't know how to go about that. There are a group of guys at the club that have invited me to play on Saturdays this year, since I am new to the club, it will help with getting to know some of the people out there, and that may also help with finding tournaments to play. I guess these aren't really specific to my game goals, but I love to play golf, and I am pretty competitive, so I think it would be really fun to try some tournaments. Paul S
Alright, I've got a new goal... In 25 years I'll be eligible for the Champions Tour, so if I start getting better now, I should have no problem, right!? Because, theoretically, if I drop a stroke every year for 25 years I'll be able to sniff that 59 everybody's always talking about. So... For THIS season, I'd like to drop more than one stroke and get this started off on the right foot. Part of me is kidding, but I'd be lying if this wouldn't be the coolest retirement ever. silver & black
Well, if I'm honest, I'm very inconsistent. I haven't shot 90 yet, but it may happen. I've been anywhere from 78 to 88. On a good note, my chipping seems to have taken a step up from last year. Unfortunately, my putter has gone missing. dru_
Well, I didn't post up in the original bits, but my goals where to complete the two half marathons I had scheduled. I was targeting a time under 2:20, and I beat it twice. I still have a full marathon to run Nov 9 in Savannah, GA with a target time between 4:30 an 4:45. As for the weight, I have gotten where I really wanted to be, but have shed an additional 5lbs under my target. Now beyond that, my golf game (and I've chronicled this in other threads) has improved along with my overall fitness. My big goal for the year wasn't so much to reduce the handicap, but instead to eliminate the dumbs. The out of control swings, the dead pulls and WTH are you thinking rip across the body trying to kill the ball slice. Tonight was a good example. Got out to the course at 4:15 to play 9. I walk ( and the 1st tee box is a 700 yard walk from the club house ). So I hit my first tee shot about 4:25. I had one dumb in the entire round off the tee on 3, a failure to get my hips around before my hands, and got the predictable dead pull. Took my lumps and played on. Finished with a 43, which isn't bad for me, but that dumb cost me a 41. My season has another 2-3 months though, since I shouldn't see frost until Dec or Jan, and even then, I typically play through the winter any time the weather is in the 50's. So I still have time to finish project Don't Be A Dummy. I've got a marathon to run. I should mention that I have already put together a list of goals for next year too. 7 Rock & Roll Full Marathons, 3 Sprint length triathlons, and to work my handicap index down closer to 10, from it's current 15. STUDque
I developed the goal part way through the seasonto break 80 only because I was actually able to dip into the 30's for 9 a few times in a row. Still making enough mental mistakes with the long game and my putting is heading the wrong direction so I'm not sure if that goal will be met this year. I'll keep playing even after the temperature drops way down so there's still time. I haven't been above 90 yet this year so that's promising.
