I've never doubted the genius of Woods, best player of his generation - I just never liked him that much.

 

No disrespect to him, just always prefered a quieter type of player - probably why I like kuchar, rose, Faldo (when he's playing not talking!)....it might actually be that Woods came along and effectively finished the era of Faldo, Norman, Stewart - that era were my heroes.

 

Actually that's a good point; pop Payne Stewart on the mountain, not Woods and I'd be happy.

Could this list really exclude Tom Morris, father and/or son?  I'm afraid I'd want an entire mountain range.  If forced to narrow it to just 4, I'd pick Old Tom Morris, Bobby Jones, Arnold, and Jack.  Tiger will certainly belong there, once he's truly done playing.

I'm surprised at the number of Arnies - look at the playing records - there are lots of guys who surpass him on the course - well not lots but lots when you can only have 4.

 

Nicklaus, Woods and Jones are easy - after them - that 4th one gets next to impossible.

 

I can't pick that 4th one between Hagen, Player, Sarazen, Hogan, Sneed and Palmer - Hagen and Palmer were both huge for the game of golf so I think I'd narrow it to the two of them and then perhaps make the face two sided.  Hagen made it okay to be a golf professional and Palmer was like the Colts/Giants Sudden death championship game for the NFL - he put golf on the TV map.

 

 

I get the Morris possibilities but I have to confine it to the past two centuries.

Mr. Hogan...best ball striker in the game

Mr. Nicklaus...for obvious reasons

Mr. Palmer...transformed the game and started the modern game down the road to make players a lot of money

 

and I guess my fourth would be Tiger.....but open to change.  Hard to ignore 14 majors and his years of sheer dominance.

I'm going a different direction with my 4th, and while I think Tiger would be deserving his story hasn't finished being written yet.

 

Hogan, Nicklaus and Palmer, but then I'm going with Karsten Solheim as my 4th.  I personally feel that he did more for the game of golf than anyone else on that list
