Beautiful weather for some fall golf yesterday. Took the day off and drove out to one of my favorite courses that is down to $30 with cart for fall rates. They had punched greens almost two weeks ago so they were pretty much fully healed already, too.

- 37/50 = 87 / 85 ESC (+15)
- 10/14 FIR
- 10/18 GIR (2 birdies)
- 34 Putts (3 3-putts, 10 2-putts, 5 1-putts)

I'm going to be kicking myself for a while about this round. Made the turn +1 (had an awful three-putt on the first par 5 that led to bogey), and was +3 through 13 holes before everything just came crashing down. Lost a 9 iron right off the par 3 No. 14 hole that led to a double bogey, and then recorded a 10 on No. 16 after a miserable hole from tee-to-green. Lost four balls over the last five holes, leaving a really sour taste in my mouth after playing so well earlier in the round.

Oh well. That's golf I guess. I got a little tight as the round progressed because I knew I was playing so well and started making mistakes. Mentally, something to work on.

After over a month of no golf, shoulder and leg injuries in between, I got a chance to go out and play.

We played the back 9 of Lakes of Taylor twice this morning. it was the maiden round of the SpeedZone Xtreme, and oh boy was it ever good.

Again I cannot thank @GolfSpy STUDque Cobra, Arccos and MGS for the awesome prize.

I hit it from every tee box except the par 3s, so I got 14 hits overall.

I average 220 yards off the tee. which is up 11 yards from the TS2.

For the entire summer, I hit my TS2 driver 159 times with a pretty even misses left and right, and very low fairway hits.

analysis bellow.

As for the Cobra, well it was a day of fairways, of the 14 shots 13 were fairways, to the right shots were still on the fairway, I do not know why Arccos marked them as a miss.

This club was amazing today, the left duck hook that I hit only went 139 yards, but it was not at all bad.

The cobra fells lighter than the TS2 and a bit shorter.

I had no issues on finding the center or close to center of the club face with consistence.

The red circle was my worse shot of the day.

The SpeedZone is here to stay.

I shot 45 and 46 respectively, which I am pretty happy about it.

Great day for some golf. Glad the SZX worked well for you! I'm still loving mine. Took it out to the range today and had several that were estimated over 250 carry/160+ ball speed. The forgiveness of the head and the tour length shaft is a huge winner for me.

... Just something I wanted to pass along. Years ago when I first started playing golf I used to keep my putter and 6 balls in my car. When I was coming home from auditions or errands I would just pull in to any golf course I passed and spend about 10-15 minutes putting on their practice green. I got to putt on quite a few different surfaces with different green speeds and it really helped my putting. Also a great way to get used to a new putter.

I haven't devoted any time to practicing putting this year and it shows. Some of that is because I'm realizing as I get older that I can't bend over nearly as much. Going from a 33" to a 36" should help out my lower back quite a bit! My hope is that I can practice putting more often as a result.

36", with a 66 degree lie angle. I'm going to do a remote fitting (assuming I can track down a 35 inch putter) because in speaking with Matt at L.A.B. today he had some concerns about the lie angle being too flat. He said sometimes he sees that with fittings where your hands drop a little more than they would on course in real life.

Very quick response to my support questions, also. Assuming I can get the length and lie validated, I'm all set with my other options (black finish, BGT Stability Tour, Press II 3 degree grip, combination of sight lines No. 18 and No. 19).

I did the remote fitting with Matt and we settled on 36" and 68 degree lie angle. I tracked down a 35" blade on eBay to do the remote fit. Now, I'm just waiting for a full quote back from the shop and I will likely go forward with an order here in a week or two!

Has your season come to a close? I saw GolfSpy MPR was dealing with some snow already...

Close. Played nine today, supposed to be nice weather this week and hoping to get out for 18 with the brother-in-law. I was bundled up today with sweater, pants, pullover and winter hat since it was 48 and drizzling.

On that note, I'm getting into a nice groove with the SpeedZone irons. Hit a couple of really good shots today, hit six greens (just missed one long, too) and am finding them to feel really nice. I was pretty disappointed in my play with them during the challenge, but I'm happy with how I'm ending off the season.

Highlight shot of the day was a stinger 6 iron from about 165 out under a tree that I put to within 15 feet. Absolutely pured it.

@GolfSpy MPR is a 9 hour drive north, ergo the snow already. Hoping we don't see anything too soon. It can stay up there... 🤣

A bit late posting I know but finally got a chance to take em out to the course today. Was worried because they were a half size too long but after playing in them for my round today, I have to say they fit just fine. Originally was trying to see if Puma would do an exchange but the reply from customer service was no we do not exchange items won in a promo so...but can't complain! Thanks again @GolfSpy STUDque for trying to help out with the exchange anyway and for a great opportunity!

That's my favorite color way of those shoes. I have a brand new pair with the DISC laceless system ready for next season.

7. - 39 (+3)
- 5/8 FIR
- 6/9 GIR (1 birdie)
- 18 Putts (2 3-putts, 5 2-putts, 2 1-putts)

Rainy, dreary day today with no sun and a high temperature only around 50. Figured the course was pretty empty and it was, so I hopped off the back nine and slid between the few groups that were out today and avoided any heavy rain.

This was probably the first round all season immediately post-lesson that I played pretty well. Hit a lot of greens (Nos. 12-17), and just missed hitting No. 18 by about a yard long (notched a chip-and-down for par). Didn't hit the ball exceptionally far since I was bundled up, but I hit my targets and didn't kill my score with bad shots off the tee.

I just unfortunately went bogey-bogey to open the nine and then had back-to-back three putts for bogey on 15 and 16 because I was 60+ feet away on the green with my approaches.

Kirkland Signature 4-pack of gloves.

I was going to place an order for my normal MG Dynagrips, but they were backordered. Price-wise the KSigs are slightly cheaper per glove. The four new gloves plus one new MG that I still have will last me through next season, hopefully.

Got these in on Wednesday. Interesting that they were shipped completely loose inside of the UPS package. Anyhow, they feel pretty nice! Definitely a nice thin leather, and they are all leather construction unlike the Dynagrip Elites that have some spandex-type material in the finger webbing. I'll probably try one over the winter for practice, at the least I'm only out $26 delivered if I don't like them or they don't last long.

My wife side-eyed them a little bit when I showed her they were Costco brand, though. 🤷‍♂️

Also, I think I need to move to a warmer weather state where I can play year round. I only was able to get to the range once this week due to the weather, and I'm already scratching the itch with expensive toys. Yesterday, I bought the EXPUTT simulator after deciding I'd rather have that than a 4'x12' mat. And earlier this week I bought a well-used Never Compromise GM2 35" blade putter because I needed something longer to remotely fit with L.A.B. No one that I have easy access to locally has a 35" putter that I could borrow for a few days on short notice, so now I guess I have a backup putter? Spent $40 just so I could spend another $600+ on the dang L.A.B.

Niiccce .. congrats!! I think you'll find it's $$ well spent, plus the setting to change green speed is a great feature 👍

(fyi.. I think mentioned in one of my review stages, but I found "9" to be alike to some of my local munis and "10" more alike to a faster country club green ... but, obviously, experiment and see what works for you!)

Great. I'm really excited to get it. The variable speed will be hugely helpful.

10. I had what is likely my last outdoor lesson of the year yesterday. We've had a very wet week and the range was actually closed, so we had it all to ourselves (perks of working with the Director of Instruction, I guess!).

I've been playing OK golf since #CC4 ended, with just a few bad holes ruining the rounds score-wise. It basically comes down to my inconsistency from the tee and one or two bad tee shots putting me in awful positions that lead to these scores.

The major takeaway from this lesson was that I need to work on my hip mobility this off season. My swing is actually looking pretty good, but I get almost no hip turn/depth which hurts my consistency, especially with longer clubs like driver. When I don't get any depth, I end up standing up (early extending) in my downswing instead of rotating, which leaves the club face wide open.

We worked on some slow speed swings to get the feel and then moved to full speed where I saw a bit of improvement but not a lot. My hips are incredibly sore this morning, so that tells me I need to spend a lot more time this off season working on them.

hipopen.jpg.be47c148bace8d6a73f22f5a81ed15d1.jpg

Some other things to keep in my mind:

1) Continue to watch my right-hand grip, which gets very weak very quickly if I'm not conscious about setup.
2) Keeping a relaxed feeling throughout my swing, especially in my wrists, arms and shoulders.
3) Feeling "Matt Wolff-ish" on the back swing, which for me means a feeling of right forearm over left going back while the right arm stays tucked in to my side.
4) Watch my feet alignment which tends to get way too far right.

The weather is getting more touch and go each day here in Michigan as we work further into fall. I'm hoping for a few more weeks of outside practice and maybe a round or two, but there's no guarantee of either.

Specs are 70 degree lie angle. 32 inch long putter.  I have abnormally long arms for my body so I use shorter putters and irons with flat lies.

Good to know. Thanks! I was longer and more upright, but generally play standard length or just below standard (37" 7 iron) with 1 or 2 degree flat irons, depending on manufacturer. That's why I wanted to do a remote fitting to confirm such a wild swing in putter specs (33" and 70 degree lie currently).

Love the Directed Force putter. It did come out of my bag earlier this season because for some unexplained reason I lost being able to see the line.  I know this sounds ridiculous, but everything literally looked like it wasn’t lined up. I switched to the Triple Track two ball with the triple track ball and I can see the line again.  The Directed Force is crazy good at anything under ten feet for me. I do struggle with the 10-15 footer make percentage for some reason with the DF.   DF is also a monster at three putt avoidance. DF went back in the bag now that I can see the lines again.....loving it!  You will enjoy it. Mine is affectionately named Betty.  She is hideous, and I don’t have to worry about other dudes trying to steal her away from me.

Just curious what your specs are?

13. 20 minutes ago, yungkory said:

That thing is hideous, but I hope it works for you!

All blacked out it looks OK! And it's an interesting feeling because you don't really need to have your thumbs on it. It doesn't twist at all going back and through.

Realistically, I want a Christmas present. 🤣

What length and lie angle did you get fitted into?

36", with a 66 degree lie angle. 15. I was fit on Saturday for a DF 2.1. Really liked how nice of a roll the putter put on the ball. I have a few questions out to L.A.B. on different shaft/grip options, but I'm leaning toward a purchase. I didn't like the standard "OG Press" grip that the fitting tool used, so I think the newer "Press II 3.0" grip will be a better fit for me.

I ended up being fit for a much longer putter (2"-3") than what I'm using now. Any amount of practice putting makes my lower back hurt, so I've been trying to move to a more upright posture and really liked the longer length.

I was really impressed. I have some mechanical issues to resolve (my right arm likes to get too involved in my swing), but I think with a flat-front grip the DF will be a great fit for me.

16. - 45 (43 ESC) (+9)
- 4/7 FIR
- 3/9 GIR
- 15 Putts (6 2-putts, 3 1-putts)

Score looks worse than the round went. Last nice warm morning of the season.

I putted really well again, struck irons reasonably well and limited mistakes on all but two holes. Score killer was No. 7 where I recorded a +5 after losing my tee shot into No. 11 fairway and then being unable to get back through the trees to the fairway and green.

I was planning on playing 18, but No. 7 kind of ruined the round a bit. Opted to pack it in after nine holes and enjoyed the nice weather with some coffee on the patio with the wife instead.

17. Not looking like I'm going to hit all 18 birdies. Holes 4, 6, 7, 11 and 16 are left, and I might only get one or two more rounds in this year. Realistically, I should have birdied No. 4 and No. 6, but I'm not surprised about not knocking 7, 11 or 16 off the list. Those holes all require two extremely perfect shots to have a chance for birdie.

No. 6 is a stupid par 3 (200-ish yards), and while I've been on the green so many times this season, I have hardly sniffed the hole. It's in my head at this point.

I did go back through and noted that I parred every hole at least once this season. I'd have to look back to 2019 rounds, but that may not have been the case a year ago. Progess!

18. Working through a bunch of buckets this week trying to cement the takeaway. Really good progress the last two days after noticing on video Tuesday that a few things were off with my right hand grip. Combined that fix with a "right forearm over left" feeling in the takeaway and I am back to hitting some really nice shots with long and short irons.

The driver is still a mess. Oh well.

One of the things I need to focus on more is moving my arms together with my torso. Sometimes I get so focused on the hands I don't turn my shoulders until late, which gets the club stuck way behind me. Typically this leads to blocks right or if I get back to the ball, thin shots.
