Over the last several years I had a Bushnell Neo Ion and most recently a Garmin S40.  The Bushnell was pretty basic and less expensive.  I liked the Garmin S40.  It picks up the GPS signals and loads the course that I'm playing quickly.  The S40 is light weight and not obtrusive.  The display was good size and I had no problem seeing the distances in the sunlight.  The S40 does have some basic shot tracking capability (even without using the optional tags you can purchase).   Unfortunately, I found it took too much time and effort to edit missed or inaccurate shots after the round.  So, I stopped using the S40 to track my statistics.

I'm currently one of the site's testers of the Shot Scope LX+ which includes the above mentioned H3 GPS and tracking device.  So far, I like it.  The addition of the club tags not only reduces the post round editing, but it gives me a greater insight into my game (good and bad).

Cannot say enough about club tags! One of the main reasons I went with the V3 - that and no yearly subscription fee - are what sold me on the Shotscope. Instantly recognizes my club and then tracks performance for each seemlessly. Only editing I have had to do post round is when I forget to collect pin - user error, not device - or I take a practice shot with one club, don't like it, and then switch to a different one. Even then it's only like twice I have had to make edits in that situation, so still super easy.

  2. The Main Site recently reviewed a bunch of GPS devices, so might be a good place to start.

You can also check out a few of the sub-forums for tech and real user feedback.

fwiw, I went with ShotScope v3 w/ club tags and have loved it. It has really opened my eyes to my game and where my strengths and weaknesses lie, especially with the Strokes Gained feature.

I want to know why my beloved TSi3 was not the winner!  As it must be the best ever since it's in my bag! 🤣

Na, feels like there weren't as many this go around, but with a lot of Hybrids on the 2 year cycle it makes sense.  Always interesting to see how the more iron-like vs fairway-like models compare!

Hopefully this goes well and can be a regular occurring program for the forums.

I seem to remember the Srixon hybrids and fairway woods scored very well in 2021, but I didn't see them on the list of reviewed clubs this year.  Were they excluded from the test?

Good questions and maybe given the longer dev cycles for FW & Hybrids they should include more models in future tests. Definitely something to bring up in the chat and hope both of you can join. If not, we will record it and host it on the site to watch/listen to later.

Welcome aboard!  I am very new to ShotScope as well, and played my 4th round yesterday.  Like you, I find the my approach shots are the bane of my existence, and what I need to work on the most.

Thanks Paul! So what are you thinking as possible solutions? I've been watching a lot of slow-mo videos of really good irons players - Tiger (back in the day), Jon Rahm, Zalatoris, Keagan, etc... - and trying to pick up some of their motion and then videoing myself to compare and see where my weaknesses and strengths are.

I've learned my take back and initial downswing are good, but need to tweak a few things at moment of impact and my follow-through is atrocious, lol!

  5. Here is the recording from our call w/ HQ Staff and Testers. Great content and fun atmosphere, so I hope more of you can join next time!

    --------

    Hey Guys,

This coming Friday, 7/22 @ 12-12:30pm EST we're debuting a new feature - Talk with the Testers! You are all invited to join a zoom link, which will be sent the morning of 7/22, and have a live chat with some HQ staff and testers about the recent 2022 Most Wanted Hybrid test that debuted today on the main site.

We want to answer as many questions as possible, so please post your questions or thoughts here and the mods will select a few to get the conversation started.

Hope to see you all this Friday!

  6. Finally joined the SS revolution and have real data on my game! Love this device and what it has done for me.

I sure thought my chipping was the weakest part of my game, but after 4rds logged I noticed that it’s really my iron/approach play that is my greatest weakness…which then leads to an excessive amount of chips, haha. Thankfully i start and finish each hole fairly strong , so looks like some lessons and range time to reconfigure my irons is in order!

    Posted my CT10 review here:

Did it on desktop, no issues getting it done. Only thought is that there was a lot of overlap between scored categories for this specific type of device, so I kinda struggled to separate everything.

Totally understand and we can adjust the rating categories. What suggestions do you have to adjust them?

Was not added to the BETA chat.

Is there a way to standardize the equipment name/review title? Feel like this is going to get very clustered quickly.

Maybe something like specific points? I can see folks putting "Titleist TS2 with Ventus blue 6x" or something like that when realy it should just be "Titleist TS2". Should really control the naming.

Well, we could provide pointers, however we also don't want everything to be formulaic and allow for free expression of ideas and the review. We understand some will be shorter than others. Hopefully members use the Star rating as their guide on what to talk about during their write up.

With that said, if we start to see a lot of single line or word reviews, we'll look a implementing some measures to dissuade that behavior.

  9. @TheOther1, @AlexSunLinks, & @Peejer - have you guys added to the Beta group!

You should see a new listing under the "Test & Review" section. If you don't find your product listed, create a new listing with a DESCRIPTION of the product - not your review. After creating the product description, then you write your review for it.

Let me know if your product category is missing and I can get it added relatively quickly.

    Thanks!

  10. The mod team has been working diligently in the background to revamp the Unofficial Review section to more closely match our member test section. The main issues we wanted to address are a uniform rating system and a searchable database for gear.

Now we need your help! The new platform should be ported over from our staging environment to the main forum (hidden) this week (6/6/22) and we need some dedicated testers to hammer the system, find any issues/quirks/annoyances, and let the Mod team know about them so we can either have our dev correct them or figure out a work around.

If you're interested, please send us a note or reply to this thread and we'll get you setup!

  11. I’m having this same debate, except swap OnCore with Maxfli Tour X.

Been a Zstar player for a few years now, but thinking i might switch to the Maxfli Tour X for the season and see how my game changes. I’m a high swing speed player and the added compression of the Tour X might fit my game better, compared to the Zstar.

Also note that while you can get 3dz for $90 with Srixon, for $10 extra dollars you can get 4dz with Maxfli and the special they are running.

Welcome thoughts and feedback from any members who have tried both and what they liked.

  12. In the book of obscure records, this has got to be up there, but it translates to some factors that we do care more about, like ball speed, consistency, flight patterns, etc... The video breakdown was also very interesting to watch. So what is this statistic? Hand Path Length

Rising star Sahith Theegala has the longest officially record hand path length of any golfer at 74.4in, which is 4" longer than the next closest golfer. Ping had the opportunity to record the swing in their fancy ENSO system, that tracks movement in 3D to give us the video below:

  13. Saw these and immediately thought they would be perfect for our northern brethren - looking at you @GolfSpy MPR

Caliber Golf has taken the idea of a putter and added a hockey stick to it, supposedly for more control and feel...and for those who dream of reliving Happy Gilmore, I suppose, haha.

Could this be the next putter crazy after arm-locks fall out of fashion (or are banned...)?

  14. Looks like a new brand has hit the scenes with a decent offering - Stix! Pitched as a DTC w/ disruptor mentality, these are a new offering looking to shake things up and hopefully make golf more accessible with a decent offering to the younger crowd or those who play a few rounds a year.

After checking out their site, they do have a nice appearance, however I wonder about the durability of the finish. It's also nice that it's something of a complete package that might be a notch or two better than offerings from Top Flight.

I know it won't meet the needs for our gear crazed forum users, but taking a step back and looking at it for what it is - a beginner/intermediate set of clubs in a complete package - what do you guys think?

Well, as a big MMA fan, I'll play along. Jon would likely fight at Light Heavyweight, being 15 pounds over the 205 pound limit and not being a physical freak who wouldn't put on the additional weight to get to the high end of the Heavyweight division that tops out at 265, so cut the weight and rehydrate after the cut. He's also 6'2", which is actually about the average height for a UFC signed LHW fighter, with current champion Glover Texieria being 6'2".

The quest then becomes, who else on tour would have a similar enough build to challenge Jon, because it's obviously not an openweight event, unless it is, then it would be crazy. I think you're looking at a DJ or Koepka type, but I'm still taking Jon in that fight. Perhaps the guy who would give Jon the best fight might be Shane Lowry. Similar size and you just know being from Ireland he was probably in his share of dust ups.

Interesting note, Esteban Toldeo would be my pick, considering he was a pro boxer before getting appendicitis, going 16-1 in his career in Mexico

Haha, Lowery would certainly be fun to watch!

I think DJ could throw some nasty elbows on opponents - his quiet demeanor is hiding a hardened competitive spirit that would come raging out after the first blow landed on him.

I think this will be most interesting to NFL fans (especially big fans of the Patriots/Bucs, Packers, Chiefs, and Bills) as opposed tp general golf fans.

That's exactly what I thought - trying to get NFL fans more into golf, and maybe golfers into NFL?

I always like the idea of a professional athlete teamed up with a regular "joe" to jus show how good they really are. Would be fun to have a content to have like Rory and Jordan each team up with a regular 15hdcp golfer and then have a net score showdown, haha.

  17. 2022 Edition of The Match was just announced and looks like they are taking a very different approach with NFL QB's, the last 4 out of 5 MVP winners, no less!

Who do you have in this wild matchup? Did they completely botch this for a ratings play, or is this must-watch for the golf world?
