Got Problems?

Similar thing here on Long Island .. we live on the North Shore ;-) so the ocean beaches are all on the South Shore .. at least 45+ mins with no traffic (but which there basically always is here) .. it was easier to get down there from where we used to live (closer to a major road that fed on to the highway).

We're actually only a few minutes from "the water" now - but which is a harbor off Long Island Sound - and my wife didn't get it at first why I wasn't surfing there..! But I do go SUP there occasionally, usually over the Winter when it's empty and calm and quiet.

I love your iced tea.

I stopped playing for 11 years and went to do mountain biking. Fun. I love the sport but hate the players. It's such a small sport and they/we are are fighting the battles from all side for trail access and the elites just make things worse sometimes.

The main objective should be on growth, but most times they look down on newbies. After my return to golf, I don't see myself being as active in the community anymore.

I don't know or have felt any impact on the so called “decline” of Golf but I guess it's true because the club that I joined is pretty affordable and I don't remember it being approachable before.

Players growth are just about the same but different type of players. Overall I see the shot consistency has improved but still lack on decision making and course management skillz.

This will be a true rant/pet peeve.Ive been researching some courses to try over an upcoming vacation. One in particular really rubbed me the wrong way.Normally,a course will say their faciltiy can be enjoyed by all skill levels. This one in particular made a point in highlighting their course is playable for even the highest caps.Than in the hole by hole summary they did it again.Actually stating that the High Caps won't have to worry about a forced carry on a tough par 4 from the back tees.Whenever I read - hear people mention high cap I somewhat think of it as defamation or derogatory.

Not everyone has the time or ability to really improve at this game. Why can't they just say meant for all skill levels. This is the only sport I recall that puts people in different groups per your skill. And not only group you,but classify you as high-medium-low cap.Unfortunately the high cap group gets a bad rep.Or alienated from what many consider acceptable in my opinion

That is kinda tacky. It also implies that high handicappers can only play easy courses. Even though I'm a higher handicapper I enjoy playing challenging courses.

Yeah, I am about a 5 minute drive from the nearest break, but it's a longboarding spot and, as lame as this sounds, I get seasick on those huge boats, same as SUPs. My longest board right now is 5'10". In addition to there being too many fat guys on longboards, there seem to be a lot of tiger sharks there as well. Seems like every October someone gets hit -- it's a military beach near base, so I don't think you can fish from a boat around there. Not sure why the sharks like it around there so much. I think someone got bit last week actually now that I think about it. Unfortunate.

I think you answered the question before you asked it.  Yum!!

Rant: stupid bad drivers who spend more time on the phone than they do paying attention to the road, and then look at you like you are the issue when they almost run into you. Stupid, put your D$&@ phone down in the car. Nothing and I mean nothing is that important.

The other day, on one of the back roads, I was texting my wife and almost hit a guy......who had walked into traffic while on HIS phone. I didn't have to screech tires but I did have an "Oh S!" moment. Who's even in the wrong in that situation? I guess still me.

The best part is that guy kept obliviously walking like weekend at Bernie's and a car coming the other direction had to slam their brakes too.

I was in Nashville with my family two years ago.  We were sitting at a light when a random girl walked out of a pizza place while texting on her phone and walked right into the passenger door of our Yukon.  She was bleeding from a couple different places.  I felt bad for her but also recognized it could have been much worse for her had the light had been green.

Also, around the same time frame, I was playing golf with my daughter at my home club.  Another father-daughter twosome was in front of us.  We were walking, they were riding.  The girl was maybe 15 and a very talented local junior.  She teed off, pulled her phone out of her back pocket while walking to the cart, and face planted right into the canopy of the golf cart.  Her braces cut her mouth all to pieces.  I felt bad for her as well.

Five year to the day that we got hit with Sandy another Nor Easter hits Long Island. Not one, not two but all three of my sump pumps in the basement failed in half an hour. Just had them checked and serviced a week ago and of course it happened after all the hardware stores in the area were closed. Got a Shop Vac at Walmart an hour ago and won't be sleeping tonight. Never buying a house with a basement again.

Wow...sorry to hear that.  It's also hard to believe Sandy was 5 years ago...man time flies!

I was going to say the samething cksurfdue said below about skiing.   Then there are courses like Bethpage Black that do the opposite, and say they only recommend it for highly skilled golfers...

FWIW, ski mountains rate their trails as Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced - Expert/Double Black Diamond. There's a sign at the top of each trail, and each category has its own color. It's meant to be helpful to guide people towards the runs they can handle and away from runs they cannot.

We have a problem with teenagers texting while driving golf carts at our club (between the condos and the pools). Full speed with carts overloaded with pool toys and other youngsters. They're generally well under the 16 yr old minimum age which is club rules. Don't know why parents and grandparent s allow this.

Texting & cell phone abuse is not a teenage problem alone. Where we live is a very large senior retirement area and WOW has granny taken to the technology!! Granpa sure likes it too. Now realize we have aprox 60,000 golf carts flying around here on the roads and the texting/cell phone use is out of control in cars also and this is all old farts.

Playing by myself I get to 11 and there's a foursome in front of me. A VERRRY slow foursome. They see me waiting, 12,13,14,15,16,17. They even turned back a few times as I'm waiting on the tee box Finally I couldn't stand it any longer and gave up (plus the green on 17 is close to my house).

They must have been guests and not club members. Playing at least 100 times this year that's never happened before.

My iPhone 6 finally bit the dust last night. Getting a new phone is up there for me with shopping for cars. Today is going to be a long day.

Dude. Do it online. I never go to the stores anymore. You get what you want without the sales pitch or hidden accessories they give you for "free."

They've made the sites intuitive enough that you can do it all yourself and stay away from the vultures at the stores.

Funny that you said that. My wife said the same thing and I had it done in twenty minutes. Have to go to the Apple store in an hour to pick it up. Apple made it a heck of a lot easier than I would have thought.

The iPhone X cost almost as much as a new car

It is actually not that much more than an 8 Plus. For the extra few bucks I am giving the X a try.
