@JTGOLF Posted August 11, 2017 Share Posted August 11, 2017 Just heard of the new Cleveland CBX wedges. They are marketed as a forgiving, toe weighted cavity back wedge. I typically do okay with my blade wedges, but am curious to hear thoughts. I mean, why not get extra forgiveness, if their claims around versatility of shots is valid? cksurfdude 1 Quote <!-- isHtml:1 --><!-- isHtml:1 --><span style='font-size: 14px;'><strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>Driver: </span></span></strong> <strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>R11 8.5* Fujikura Blur Stiff </span></span></strong></span><span style='font-size: 14px;'><strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>Irons: MP-25 4-PW KBS Tour 90 Stiff </span></span></strong></span><span style='font-size: 14px;'><strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>Wedges: MP-T5 52* Miura K-Grind 54* </span></span></strong> <strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>SM 58*</span></span></strong></span><span style='font-size: 14px;'><strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>Putter: </span></span></strong> <strong class='bbc'><span style='font-family: arial'><span style='color: #808080'>TM-880</span></span></strong></span> Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cksurfdude Posted August 11, 2017 Share Posted August 11, 2017 Also intrigued, especially after seeing @BarbaJo's article... https://mygolfspy.com/first-look-cleveland-cbx-wedges/ First Look: Cleveland CBX Wedges One suggested use is to replace the "set" Gap wedge that came with your iron set. I've already done that but would consider giving this a test against my current PW. Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... newballcoach Posted August 11, 2017 Share Posted August 11, 2017 These wedges intrigue me as well. But I would still want to carry a traditional sand wedge or lob wedge for around three green and bunkers. mtisdale Posted August 11, 2017 Share Posted August 11, 2017 as the article says these are GI wedges, and the though is to give for forgiveness into the wedges but by doing this and moving away from the blades you loose that shot shaping ability of the blades. The mindset behind it is i would guess is that players that need the GI wedges are not skilled enough to make those different type of shots with consistency or accuracy and thus would not have the need for that ability to be in their wedge. I myself believe more in the combo set approach. That's more stated in the new Mizuno article where you get your GI in your long iron and progressively move into the blades for your wedges. if you haven't read the article written by Tony Covey see below, it's a good one. https://mygolfspy.com/2018-mizuno-mp-18-irons/ cksurfdude and Jiro 2 Quote Driver - Ping G5 10.5 3W & 5W - Taylormade aeroburner Irons - Cobra Amp cell 4-GW Wedge - Titleist Volky 60deg Putter - Odyssey V-7 tank superstoke long grip Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Shifty Posted August 17, 2017 Share Posted August 17, 2017 These wedges are great, I love the v-sole. Really hard to hit a bad shot with these. If you have the cbx irons the progression to wedges is perfect. The sweet spot is more centered, rather than towards the heel like other cleveland, and Vokeys. They look a bit different than I'm used to (Sm5's) when opening the blade up, but haven't had any issues shooting them. Nappy Posted October 16, 2017 Share Posted October 16, 2017 having gamed the RTX3.0 for over a year now I'm a true believer in the wedge tech that Cleveland offers. I'm assuming a CBX 50 wedge would be really helpful with full swings. My accuracy issues could benefit from the added forgiveness people talk about. cksurfdude and Sturgeon 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JTexGolfer Posted October 17, 2017 Share Posted October 17, 2017 I replaced a Vokey 50* SM6 with a Cleveland CBX 50* and I have been very happy with the extra forgiveness. The 50* is only a fill swing club for me so this style made sense. I keep stats of my rounds and I have hit 18 of 21 greens with it so far, with two misses being yardage mistakes on my part. I'm sticking with my Vokey 54* and 60* though for around the green versatility. cksurfdude 1 Quote 400 Driver (8*) UST ATTAS Punch 6S F6 Baffler (16*) Matrix Red Tie 65Q4 816 H1 Hybrid (21*,23*) Diamana S+ Blue 82 HY Z765 (5-PW) +2* Aerotech Steelfiber i110cw Vokey SM5 50.08F 54.10M Aerotech Steelfiber i110cw PM Grind 60* Dynamic Gold S400 TR 1966 Anser 2 Z Star ball Pioneer Cart Bag Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

grad2004cca Posted March 23, 2018 Share Posted March 23, 2018 My iron set is the Cobra F7 One Lengths. This set had a blade as the Gap wedge. I never hit it very well. After hearing about the CBXs I was intrigued. I wound up replacing the GW with a CBX. The results were so good that I replaced my SM6 54 and 56 as well. I hit these wedges better than any other I've tried. Maybe it's just the added confidence that if I hit a bad shot there is added forgiveness there, but I'm not looking back to gamer blades anytime soon. McaseyM Posted March 23, 2018 Share Posted March 23, 2018 I have these too from the Cleveland fitting event and they have been awesome!! I came from a set of blade wedges that were great when I hit them right, and killed my scores when I didn't, which was most of the time. These are very forgiving and give great feedback, plus consistency has been fantastic. I've stopped going for the green on longer shots and have tried to set myself up in the 60-130 range because I feel confident with them Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Brian A 1 Quote What's in my bag: Driver : F9 10.5, Fujikura Speeder 757 TR Fairway F9 15.5° Aldila Rogue White 80X Hybrid: King F7 18° KBS Tour PROTO Hybrid 95 S+ Irons: z585 4i - 6i, z785 7i-PW, Nippon Modus 120X Wedges: CBX 50.11, 55.11, 60.10 TT DG S400 Black Putter: Honey Badger 34" Ball: Q-Star Tour Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Deuce Posted March 23, 2018 Share Posted March 23, 2018 I've been using these wedges (52, 56, 60) with graphite shafts for months now. I didn't full swing with my wedges before, because a mishit would spell disaster, but with these, it really does feel like an extension of my irons (W/S C200's). I haven't had this much confidence 100 yards and in, in ... well, ever. Rtracymog and Golfspy_CG2 2 Quote What's in My Bag? Golfspy_CG2 Posted March 23, 2018 Share Posted March 23, 2018 As mentioned in other places around the site, I have had a CBX 54 degree custom built to my specs. I only used it for a few rounds, the weather here has sucked to say the least. it did not disappoint in any way. if not for the fact I had already ordered a set of SM7's I would have gone with three CBX's. They are that good.
