Where should Spies eat when traveling?

I'm on the road 2 out of every 3 weeks across the Southern US and I'm always looking for good places to eat. So, if you have travel upcoming, post here where you're going, and see what gets recommended. Maybe even add what you're looking for, even nightlife spots

 

I'm in Austin, downtown, and headed to Plano, and Ft Worth for the start of the week. I'd love to know of restaurant for a great burger, sandwiches, and maybe even a steak.

 

Any places you recommend, or places I should eat just because the food is awesome???

I'll be in Columbus...playing golf with spies next Sunday the 16th.  Unless there are dinner plans after the round, I wouldn't mind finding a good place on my own to eat that night.

If you ever find yourself on Chincoteague Island.... you have to have to have to go to the Island Creamery for Almond Joy ice cream, and Sea Star for a Gobbler Sandwich... the stuff dreams are made of.

I had homemade Almond Joy ice cream in Ann Arbor at the Washtenaw Dairy! Unreal! No Gobbler sandwich, though.

Anthony Bourdain always said that the best meals are found when plan A blows up.  

 

My brother lived in Austin for a year and spent most of his nights out eating at Freedmen's BBQ.

A "fairway" (my made-up term for a gathering of MGS spies) of Spies shall not be caught dead at a TGI Fridays...

 

If ever out this way, I got a killer BBQ joint to recommend and even an Italian place that'll knock yer socks off. Bunches of small burger dives here with that 50's feel and an absolute jewel of a Mexican place that is still kind of a "secret"... ​

Too far from Texas for a "quick" stop...heh. I'm up here in Idaho.

 

I was in Plano several months ago. To my delight as a former and recovering Californian, there are several In-N-Out Burger places there and I definitely had to get my fix satisfied! If you've never wrapped your lips around a Double-Double "Animal Style", go for it 

 

Ate at Kenny's Smoke House...WOW!!! A sampler will do just fine there...unbelievable! And sides...Beans and loaded mash please!

The Rusty Taco was also awesome-Fish tacos for days!

Don't forget about the Kolaches! Gotta hit up Kolache Heaven! They have a brisket kolache that was sent down with angels singing and don't get me started on the blueberry ones...!

I have eaten here and it was PHENOMENAL. Try one of their four recommendations at the top of the menu. The guacamole is great, and the ice cream is exceptional!!! If you like Margaritas, get one!

SO good!

I'm sorry if I jacked your post. didn't mean too.

I used to know the Austin dining scene really well. But it's changed so much that most of my old haunts have sadly gone away. My favorite BBQ in Austin used to be Artz's Rib House. I know that doesn't help but I wanted to mention it in case any oldsters remember it. I will say this... and if you have an evening to spare. Go to the Broken Spoke and get a chicken fried steak and stay for the music and fun. It's historic and can be a little bit touristy perhaps. But still fun. It too will be gone one day. Huts Burgers if it's still around was a good joint too.

What you in the mood for and which part of Columbus are you in? Hyde Park is great red meat, Brio has an awesome chopped salad. There a couple great places in the short North as well

Nope, didn't jack it at all! Trying to get the cities listed so people see them... Wondering how to make this thread easier to see and post in.

My wife has family in Austin. Haven't been in ages, but two favorites of ours are still there:

 

El Arroyo - Mexican

Salt Lick - BBQ (it's a bit of a drive, but it's worth it)

 

If anyone's ever in Richmond, VA, I'll take you on the beer tour of a lifetime. And we have some great food for a town with no "native" dish.

Well, depending on how you look at it, we ate at the Tilted Kilt in Ocala, FL. $12.95 for a burger. It was right across the street from Ocala Golf Club, where our tournament is this weekend. She said if we bring our scorecard from golf we'd get 15% off.

 

Well, I will simply say that I had heard about this place prior to tonight and it's reputation with the wait staff and what they wear (or lack thereof). I've never seen so many tattoos on girls in my life.

 

So me and my buddy made a bet on how old our waittress was to decide who would pay for dinner. I won the bet.

Great little area around Dublin; The Tap Room, Dublin Village Tavern are favs. Tavern better for food.

Shouldn't have to help you with Austin; Good Lord a lot of places. Don't know Plano that well; lots of stuff more in The Colony by Sam Rayburn & Plano Parkway. Recommend Hard 8 BBQ. Unfortunately don't spend enough time in Dtwn Ft Worth either. Love that town, though. Make some recommendations after you're there.
