PGA Tour Coming to Baltimore

Word is the BMW Championship is moving to Baltimore for 2021 season. Going to be played at Caves Valley! Obviously super pumped for this after losing the Quicken Loans to Detroit last year. Thoughts on whether it can hold on to it for future years?

It’s not a tournament that stays in one place for too long so the chance of it staying at caves valley for more than one event are probably slim.

Caves is a great course and has hosted 3 high level events that I can think of. 2 senior major events including their us open and the inaugural international crown on the LPGA

Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4

Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white

Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid

Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120

Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60

Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1

Ball: Titleist Prov1

Yep, the BMW moves around, Chicago, St. Louis, New York, I could see Caves getting in on a rotation and getting it every 5 years or so.   But getting the top 70 players on the Fed Ex and trying to move into the Tour Championship Top 30 pretty much guarantees a very good field.

Definitely will be a tournament worth getting out to see, on such a spectacular course.  Not really from a visual standpoint, but just from a design and challenge.

It has hosted as you mentioned.

I totally forgot the amateur events there. It’s a good challenge for the best in the world.

That's true. Obviously biased but I would love to see it open a door to more events in the DMV.

Well the US Open has been held and I would expect another to be held at Congressional. RTJ gets Ryder Cup.

It boils down to finding a course willing to host an annual event and a sponsor. Congressional had to deal with both issues. The members were tired of losing both courses for Tigers event and from what I was told there was an issue with the cost and quicken loans didn’t want to re up.

yes, correct on both accounts, Congressional is full Country Club with a much more active social membership than golf, the members didn't like losing access to all the social parts of the club, clubhouse, pool, tennis etc for two to four  weeks during the peak summer time when most of them can enjoy it.

As for Quicken Loans, the Founder Dan Gilbert said he would only continue to sponsor the event, if it was moved to the company's home town of Detroit.   And when money talks, the PGA Tour listens 😎
