sirchunksalot
I walked in to the clubhouse at my golf course today and almost, almost, bought a set of Ben Hogan Apex Edge irons. I know they're cavity back, but man, I want a set of Hogan's. The only reason I didn't was because I hadn't discussed it with SWMBO, even though I knew she'd be cool with it. She enables my golf addiction. $70 is just about too good of a deal to pass up. I don't need them, but I want them. So pretty.... Did a search and there was a post from a couple of years ago that those shafts were similar to the True Temper Dynalite. Of course I hit them; but they were new at the time and out of the price range I wanted to spend. Never found a used set at my local used club store or I would have put a set in my bag. I might just have to plan a trip out that way next year and meet up with you, I think listening to your wisdom would do this fella good. I appreciate the kind words, I've said it a bunch, but the people on this forum are what makes it special. It does make me sad about Possum Trot, I played it in the late 90's on vacation with the ex in-laws and it held a special place in my heart. I used to have a towel from there, but have no idea where it's at. Right now I'm planning on bringing the Wilson's back out to play this weekend. I always take an extended weekend on Labor Day and since I've been playing in the Hard Rock Challenge, I've been using my regular set. I get way too competitive and think a nice, relaxing round or two with them is in order. It's funny, but I don't pressure myself at all with these clubs. I think I don't expect to tear the world up with them and just enjoy the ride. I need more work with the woods before I'm comfortable enough to go full classic, but I know it'll be fun when I do. HIGHLY recommend it. @BIG STU is one of the best dudes to take walk or a cart ride with. Let me know if you happen to ride through the upper part of SC on your way down. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I might have done a thing.... These are not super old clubs, coming out in 2002/2003, but they are sharp! I got a better look at them today and they're the Hogan Shafts in a 3 (regular) flex. Haven't had the chance to hit them properly, but did hit a couple of small chips in the back yard and they feel nice. They are the Pro model. The 5-E clubs have Release by Feel Golf grips and they feel like they have a reverse taper to them, the grip feels bigger the closer you get to the shaft. The 3&4 have normal grips. sirchunksalot
Took the Hogan's out for their maiden run on the driving range today and I've got to say, I'm impressed. They're some of the most repeatable clubs I've ever hit, I was hitting a pretty consistent fade with them and the distances on my good hits were consistent. I knew if I hit one 125 with a 10 yard fade, the next one was going to do the same thing. The sound was more muted than I'm used to, but that's not a bad thing. Just a nice, relatively subtle click and the ball was in the air. The grips were a bit weird as they taper from bottom to top and are quite a bit bigger around my bottom hand than I'm used to. I bought some beautiful, white Lambkin's from @chisag that are going to look amazing on them, if I can keep them clean. My work schedule is brutal the next two weeks, 9-10 hours a day for six days a week. Not much in the way of time off, but I hope I can get a round in with them soon. tommc23, BIG STU, HardcoreLooper and 5 others
