My neighbor has an off-the-rack putter at 35" and I've noticed that his first putting motion is to pick the putter straight up (uncomfortably so) or else it'll drag the ground for a good 12-18." TR1PTIK
Static height has nothing to do with what length of putter will work best for you. I'm 5'11" and game a 33" putter. I got here by testing various lengths, head shapes, and grip sizes. I found that 33" gets my eyes where they need to be above the ball and promotes a more consistent stroke. I have found that most golf shops don't carry putters less than 34", so it's hard to walk in and try out shorter putters. I think a lot of people buying a putter without getting fit end up with a putter that is too long, and then struggle putting. VtheGNMan
6'5" tall and use a 35" putter. I've experimented with various lengths and the 35" seems to the sweet spot for me. Eyes over the ball, comfortable address, arms hanging naturally. Key words are sweet spot FOR ME. Limb and torso lengths all will have a bearing. Even what eye is dominant will affect how you should set up to the ball and affect posture. I've found shorter shafts to position my back right in the sore spot, meaning if I play a lot of holes or start to get tight, a shorter shaft puts me having to be in the range of motion that is in that hurt or tight zone. fixyurdivot
