Hoganman1
This guy is an enigma to me. It's clear he isn't well liked by fans or other tour players. Also, many think he is really loose with the rules of golf. However, one cannot deny he is very talented and nothing seems to phase him. I think that in the game of golf once someone has been labeled as a cheater it's almost the kiss of death for their career. This does not seem to be the case in most other sports, business and of course politics where disregard for rules and norms is actually sometimes praised. Golfers are held to a higher standard and personal integrity is just as important as a good putting stroke. While I do question Reed's behavior with regard to the rules, I am impressed with his play. Sometimes I actually find myself pulling for him. I felt the same way about Colin Montgomerie for different reasons. No one ever questioned Monty's integrity, but there was a time when many American golf fans clearly pulled against him. The fact that he didn't seem to care impressed me. Maybe it's the same with Reed. I like watching him play simply because everyone else hates him and he just ignores them and keeps winning. LeftyRM7
Patrick is fun to watch. His short game is absolutely incredible. It’s good for the game to have a villain on tour. I don’t care about his reputation as a “cheater”. Golf is weird in that, it’s the only sport that seems reluctant to clearly define and enforce its rules. Lots of gray areas and it’s expected of the players to police themselves. In most other sports it’s expected of players to push the rules and the governing body to rule. DiscipleofPenick
Y'all loved him as CAPTAIN AMERICA in the Ryder Cup. Then he grounds one club in a bunker, denies it, and is the worst and most hated guy out there. He was assessed his penalty for his actions whether he admitted or not and the tour held him accountable. I think this is more media trying to tell a story or craft a narrative that he is a villain. Remember when ESPN and others were calling for Phil to be DQ'd be he hit a putt that was still moving at Shinnecock?? That's not the penalty for hitting a moving ball. He took his penalty as the rules dictated, 2 strokes - not disqualification. Just the same as Reed did. Even if he didn't assess the penalty on himself the tour got it right and made sure he understood. RollingGreens
I don’t think I dislike Patrick as much as I dislike his wife and/or her family. He added fuel to the fire with the narrative of him estranging/exiling his biological family from his life. I’m sure both sides have fabricated some of the story. could there be more to the story we don’t know. Sure. Having your family followed by security and taken away from the course for watching you play seems a bit much. Justine running a Twitter burner account going after the naysayers of her husband. Also let’s not forget about him cheating during practice rounds of college golf. At some point the narrative plays itself, the media can only put gasoline on the fire captain America and his new family started MattF and DiscipleofPenick 2 Quote Stealth 2 Plus 9deg Kai' li Red Stealth 2 13deg Aldilla Rogue Silver Stealth 2 15deg Aldilla Rogue Silver JPX 921 Hot Metal 4-PW Nippon Modus 120s SM8 54 and 58deg Dynamic Gold Wedge Flex Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Titleist ProV1 Hoofer Stand Bag Stewart Q Follow Electric Caddie 300 PRO Rangefinder Official Nippon Regio B+ Driver Shaft Review Official Stewart Q Follow Review
MGoBlue100
He’s definitely an interesting dude, unlike a lot of the vanilla personalities on Tour. I’ve heard he does a ton of charity work, including personally funding entire junior programs around Houston. Guy has huge talent, no doubt about that. He certainly hasnt done himself any favors but I kind of feel like hating on Reed is like the flavor of the month. Yeah, he bends the rules sometimes but is he really any worse or more annoying than someone like Bryson who is guility of slow play all the time and always says he is never going to speed it up no matter what anyone says or does? You dont see Bryson getting anywhere near the amount of hate that Reed gets. fixyurdivot and Rickp 2 Quote "I suppose its better to be a master of 7 than to be vaguely familiar with 14." - Chick Evans Whats in my Sun Mountain 2.5+ stand bag? tony@CIC
I happen to like Reed and he seems to thrive on controversy. Speaking of which it gives the 'talking heads' content for their endless haranguing. After all controversy sells. Family issues? I can personally tell you there are always two sides to a family story. Cheating in College or on Tour? I don't know - that's between him and his conscience. Headhammer
I love him, he is the heel we need in golf. Everyone who hates him and makes a living on social media roasting him, will be the first ones screaming his name at the next Ryder & Presdent's cup. GolfSpy AFG
Frankly, I can't decide. The Ryder Cup is far and away my favorite sporting event, and after what he did at Hazeltine (and having been there in person) I'll always want him on the team. I think it's fair to say the American's could use more/bigger chips on their shoulders. That said, the interview that he gave at the last Ryder Cup wherein he basically threw Furyk and Spieth under the bus didn't sit particularly well with me. And I am bothered by the cheating incidents. You can't tell me it's a non-issue when you have Peter Kostis, who as far as I know has no reason to be biased, say that he has personally witnessed Reed improve his lie on four separate occasions while covering a tournament for CBS. At the end of the day, there is a ton of evidence piling up that Reed plays fast & loose with the rules of golf, and I'm not okay with that. satcomm302
The singles match between Reed and Rory at the 2016 Ryder Cup was some of the best golf I've ever seen. It was so entertaining watching the drama, them pulling out some awesome shots when they needed to, them giving the needle to each other and playing up to the crowd. I remember being so fired up watching that match; very fond memories for me. I was disappointed in him with the bunker deal, and it took me a while to see him hitting a shot without it not reminding me of what happened, but I'm over it and now just enjoy watching his magic around the greens and his sweeping draws. silver & black, tony@CIC and Headhammer 3 Quote Stealth 2 Plus 9.5* w/Mitsubishi Chemical Kai'Li White 60 Stealth Plus 15.0* w/Project X HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX 70 M3 Hybrids 19 & 22* w/OBAN Revenge 85 2019 790's 5-Iron thru PW w/UST Recoil 95 RTX ZIPCORE 50/54/58* w/KBS 610 115gr O-Works Red Tank No. 7 37" w/SuperStroke 2.0 2019 TP5, TP5x, 2021 Tour Response "Share good bourbon with good friends..." knightsofnii
Reed's game and technique is top notch, maybe even near "one of the top 5 guys." But, that's about it. I think maybe he needs a PR coach. He will be one of the guys on the RC bubble, and will get passed over for a lesser player for morale reasons. Just my guess. In person he is shorter and way thinner than I imagined. The camera adds 5 lbs, but the camera also makes everyone look the same height. But I think he's 5'11"-6' if I'm correct, which is short for PGA. Quote RADspeed 10.5, Evenflow Riptide CB 6.0s Bio Cell 3/4w, PXV 6.0s; AMP 3h 19deg Aldila RIP R.
