How Long Do You Keep Golf Gloves?

Recommended Posts

Years! Once they start to get slick they go in the driving range pocket of my bag. I've literally got a couple 5 year old gloves that I will use until they tear or get a hole in the palm.

Living in Florida, the gloves don’t necessarily dry out like they do when I travel up north. However, because of the humidity issues and my hands sweating, it causes me to use two to four gloves a round in the spring summer months and wind up tossing them only when they get all stretched out. I just changed grips to Kangaroo leather on my clubs and when I feel like it , I can go glove-less as they stay really sticky. Gloves are FJ, Ping, Titleist, all top of the line.

I resemble this remark! There are two seasons in Florida - from November until now I go through two or three gloves. From May until October it’s two or three a month because normally I need two per round and it’s hard to get them to dry out.

Heck I go through two or three pairs of underwear a day in the summer. 😞

I order my gloves from Costco - really nice leather gloves at a great price - their ML’s fit me perfectly. I’ve been doing that for the past couple of years. I was just going to order sone as I’ve broken into my last four pack.

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

When i am in Florida, i have started to use Finger Ten mens Rain Grip gloves. i can wear the same glove for 18 holes and never worry about clubs slipping. i even leave it on now when i putt. no hassle taking off, putting on. My hand is actually cooler than with a leather glove. When up north in MN i use Master Grip DynaGrip Elite leather gloves. usually put a new in play each month, so use about 4 or 5. $7.99 a piece and are as good as the $30 glove.

I rotate in the following manner:

- new glove only gets used when actually playing (not even warming up) until I get a hole in it

- when the glove has a hole it moves to being the practice glove.

I don't think I'm cheap, I just play a lot a golf (>100 rounds/year) now a days.

Player of the game but never as good as I aspire to

I'm going to say too long. I think it's because I don't practice or play enough to justify (in my head) using more than 2 gloves per year. . When I hit balls, I don't typically wear a glove, but wear one to play, and may alternate mid round since it gets hot down here from now-ish until early fall. I think I played 14 rounds last year, in NC, which to me is way too low.

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

I don't wear one so mine last a long, long time.  But I don't have any issues with sweaty hands, even in humid conditions.  But I do have rain gloves for the absolute wet conditions.  A "requirement" in the Pacific Northwest for playing between November and March.  These gloves I have yet to replace after two years but then they aren't needed for or don't get more than a dozen or so rounds a year.

The Gloves God Gave You, eh GPS?? haha.  Interesting... I'm from the PNW and when I lived there, I didn't wear gloves either.  It was only when I moved "down south" that gloves became a part of my golf game.

Alright let's see...

Titleist Players seem to fit me best as I like a nice tight fit and I'm also a Cadet Small.  I do not like when the fingers are too long.  I'd rather it be too tight then a little loose.

They probably last 10 or so rounds for me before they become a range, speed training, or rainy day glove.  I've actually found that I Feel I get more grip on damp days from a slightly worn down glove then a brand new one... or maybe I just feel like I don't want to put a new glove through the rain.

As for storage, my glove stays on the velcro patch on my bag.  I feel like that gives it the best chance to dry out.  New gloves stay in their package in my bag and once they're on reserve or range duty they go on the bag to try after a session and stored in the bag with the new gloves after.

How long do you keep your golf gloves?

  • On average 10 to 15 rounds
    • I live in Florida so it is very humid and I sweat a lot so I rotate between 4 to 6 gloves a round
    • I change them out because they streach too much
    • I have very wide hands also

How long do you expect your golf glove to last? And what glove do your normally use?

  • Expection is relative to how much I am playing at that point in time (but I am fine with 10 rounds)
  • I use Mizuno, Titleist, Srixon, FJ adn whatever else I can find at National Golf outlet that is cheap

Do you have a glove storage unit or do they just go in the bag after?

  • Half of the 12 to 14 gloves I carry hang on the outside of my bag - the others are in a pocket after they dry out

Observations about gloves:

  1. I have not found a glove yet that will stay dry
  2. Have not found a glove yet that will last past 15 rounds for me (using every round)
  3. I have ordered 5 of the top MSG gloves and none of them were head and shoulders above the rest (for me)

My conclusions:

  1. I do not really care if a glove lasts me past 10 rounds any longer
    • I treat it like amaintenance cost (kind of like changing oil in car)
  2. The glove I would spend more money on would keep the sweat away from my hands
    • Maybe an integrated wrist bands (sweat band - I go through 4 to six a round)

Until it wears out. Usually along the threading around the wrist. I usually get 2 1/2 months but during the summer months only 1 month due sweat from high humidity. I have been using Strike golf gloves because of price and all the gloves seem to not last any longer.

I put a new glove in play when it either becomes too worn in spots or becomes too stretched out. Maybe not your typical glove, but I’ve been a fan of the Under Armour Iso-Chill glove. It’s got a lot of mesh on the back so it ventilates really well and provides good feel and grip. Last year I think I went through 2 or 3 gloves, but I was really only playing 9 holes consistently each week. I have a feeling I’ll be going through more this year since I’ve got a membership to my local club.

So all of my bags i use, including the "sunday bag" for practice, have a designated spot outside of the bag for gloves. NEVER bunch them up and toss it in the bag. That will leave it a crusty ball from hell.

I typically get around 5 to 10 rounds out of one glove. If they are FJ, then 3 to 5. Titleist / TM / Callaway tour gloves 6 to 10. Costco, no joke, their kirkland brand gloves hold up amazing! I recently was on a trip to Scotland and was POURED on when we played 2x. I used the same glove on all of our rounds, including the rained on rounds. Let it dry properly and it's still GTG. If you have a Costco membership, it's a great option for 3x gloves at $25. Can't beat it.

The Bionic gloves claim to last twice as long, but even in the humid conditions of the South, it’s rare if they rip or wear out before I throw one away for just looking so filthy.  These cost a bit more, but they seem to last forever!

Started playing late in life, but as I got older I found that golf is a much better activity than a lot of things old folks get into, plus I meet some of the nicest most interesting people!

Sadly, I’ve lost more gloves falling out of my pocket than I’ve worn out…

The ones I manage to not lose tend to last me a year or so, but then again I never get to play as often as I’d like. I did manage 23 rounds last year and I’m shooting for 40+ this season.

Currently in the bag:

I have been able to play with the same glover for somewhere between 10-15 rounds on average. It is not uncomment for a glove to fail earlier. I have found that when you find a good quality glove for the price point you like it is easy to use gloves a little quicker.

My grandfather taught me to play.  As a child of the depression, he used stuff until it was completely worn out.

I do that with most of my golf equipment, especially gloves.  I've largely been using Nike gloves since Tiger arrived on the scene and I use them until I wear a hole in them.  I play about 25 rounds a year and toss in once-a-week range sessions and I can get through an entire season on three gloves.

Fore years I wore Titleist Players glove in an extra large cadet.  Not close to great but best fit I could find.  Palm was never long enough and would wear a hole in 4-5 rounds.

Tried a Mizuno Elite from a small independent retailer and easily the best fitting glove for my hand I have found.

I have a couple of Bridgestone gloves I got in Japan.  I use these on the driving range as they are a bit thicker and wear like lead.

We get some humid conditions in July and August around Toronto.  I always take off my glove between shots and carry it to let any breeze help dry it out.  On the most humid days I may use a second glove somewhere on the back nine.  I never put a wet glove in my bag.  Throw the glove on top of my bag in the car until I get home and then leave it on the counter in the laundry room to dry out.

I'm rotating the same 3 for a little over a year now. I'd guess it's been about 80 rounds. They are still fine. I don't replace them until they rip.

Added: as far as storing, If they are dry I fold them all together and keep them in my valuables pocket in my bag. A wet one that's been in use goes on top of my ball retriever until it dries (now I think about this, I'm going to discontinue this practice. Great way to get strange bacteria from stagnant ponds on the inside of my glove.)

I use Kirkland as I can buy 4 gloves for $30 that perform and feel like most premium gloves.

I play 120+ rounds per year and go through 6-8 gloves in a year.  From October- April I go through 2 as the humidity is low.  I often use my foot joy winter/rain gloves during Dec-Feb.

April- September, When the humidity is up I go through 1 a month.

I also use my worn gloves on the range during the humid months.

I buy six leather gloves a year from MG golf. They are comfortable, fit right, include a custom logo and are a bargain (about $8 each). I spend 3 weeks per month in Florida and one week oer month in NJ except July and August, when the times are reversed. I play about 50 rounds oer year in FL and 25 in NJ, plus about a dozen when traveling (typically UK and Ireland). I use each glove until it gets crinkly or stinky, so basically six gloves last me a year.

As I tend to sweat and perspire, I use at least two gloves a round - sometimes more in the summer.
I try to wash them once during the season to help the stretch out and feel, but they definitely are retired if I put a hole in it

I usually have 2 or 3 and I have Golf Gloves Holder/Dryer/Hanger/Stretcher Plastic Sport Gloves Support Frame that you can buy on Amazon 2 for $9, they help mine last longer. When I was playing 4 or 5 time a week in Turkey, hot and humid my gloves would last a month our a little longer before them got a hole in them. I also have my holder hanging on my bag and so i can swap out glove every 9 holes when it is really humid.

I've used all types of gloves and I prefer to use Calaway apex tour gloves and use them until I have a hole in them or they have just become too beat up. I do switch them out on hot days so they do not get too sweaty. I keep my gloves in a ziplock bag, this too me keeps them fresher and very easy to store in my bag. I do not like the stretchy gloves even in very hot and humid weather, they do not fill tight enough.

If I can get 6-8 rounds out of my glove I am happy.  Currently I have a foot-joy and Callaway rotation, but I am still looking for a good feeling glove that lasts more than a couple of rounds.  I usually leave my gloves attached to the outside of my bag and I switch gloves at the turn.
