Two of the par 5’s are double dog legs. It forces you to take 3 shots. Trees are about 3 or 4 stories tall. No short cuts.

The 18th is a par 5 single dog leg. But your second shot is roughly 220 to an Island green. The water around it is 10 yards wide but also a small green. Big risk going for it. 
Quite a few of the par 4’s are dog legs too. #11 as an example is 384 or 306 from gold. It’s close to 90 degrees. Your second shot is still 185 out if you keep it close to the turn no matter what tees you play.

Its a fun course but you really don’t get to use a driver much. #’s 1, 8, and 9 on the front and 13 if your accurate and 18 are the only ones you can use driver. Guys who enjoy the driver move back to the blues to get to use it more. You can see from the card the blues are only 6527 but it’s a tight tricky course with small greens. I don’t quite understand why the ratings are as low as they are. It certainly doesn’t play that easy.

Based on the number of times I hear trees get hit you would think it’s pretty tough

... I am so spoiled by desert courses. Doglegs you can't fly the ball over are really rare and double doglegs are non existent. At least the tees provided you some shade!

The new grips are still amazing. I felt so much more comfortable. I did play well and frankly I was worried about the back 9. All the clubs are working well. The Gap wedge needs some fine tuning on chip shots. My other set the gap was at 50* and the Cobra is at 48* plus being 1/2 “ longer I was chipping past the pin a bit. But close enough to make the putt in most cases. Even though the Gap needs some fine tuning I don’t know what I would have done without one. The gap wedge is usually my work horse. I had to use it almost as much as the 6 iron today to get up close to save pars. I was short some after two six irons.

It is funny though on how many different clubs you can use to achieve the same results. Another eye opening day. I’m changing my approach on a few holes going forward. Now I can’t wait to use all of them!

Yesterdays 35 matched up exactly with todays 35 for a 70. Two birdies and a bogey. 
I hope to never do an irons only with the highest being a six iron again. A little too much for me. My eyes are crossing just typing this out and my left hand is cramping. I drank a lot of Gatorade too.

To compound my day. When I got to the course they said they just airated the back 9. Luckily it was the small holes and it didn’t effect much. I don’t think I could have done any better anyway. 

Great round, Tom! It's crazy how mentally challenging a round like this can be. The GW was a workhorse for me too and I had to spend a lot of time working on my technique with it to be passable with it. 

I'm glad to hear you kept hydrated and hopefully you haven't woken up with cramps in your hand.

I’m starting to have these nagging thoughts of playing a round with just irons so that I can get a better understanding of what you guys are dealing with. I don’t usually carry a four iron so I grabbed that on my way out the door this morning just in case I’m motivated later on today.

Since my range session got rained out yesterday, I played two holes after the boys went to bed to get some more irons only practice. 17 is a downhill par 4 that with my 6i, I ended up on the downhill slope. Super awkward lie and thinned the 6 but was around 40 yards to the flag from there. Wasn’t sure how hard to swing my PW from there and ended up getting a little too much of it and was on the back fringe with a front pin. Lag putt was short as the greens were soaked and actually playing slow for the first time this year, and missed the 2nd putt and tapped in for a technical two putt and double bogey. 

18 is the opposite and an uphill par 4 but only 335 yards. Hit my 6i well and this time had an uphill lie with about 156ish I’d say to the green. Blind shot, but again struck it well and ended up on the front of the green by about a foot. Tricky uphill putt with a lot of left to right break, but this time had good pace and left it about two feet left of the cup for a tap in par. 

Getting a dew sweeper 18 in on either Saturday or Sunday as I don’t think I’ll be able to squeeze the back 9 in before then to complete my front 9 Tuesday round.

I'll give you details.

I played my usual course, Flagstone Golf Course and it was a beautiful day to be out there. It was 90 degrees with about 60% humidity. So not too bad. 

I'm going to be up front about the fact I played from the silver tees which measure 5330 yards and rate out at 70.4/114. I can only hit my 6 iron around 155-160, so I figured this was the only way I could score decently and make it challenging for any competitors. 

I started off well, I parred the first hole after a decent drive and left myself just short on the approach. I chipped a GW to 7 feet and made the putt.

I had a really good front nine going until I got to the 9th hole where I promptly shanked my drive into the driving range and had to hit a second tee shot and ended the hole with an 8.

Front nine 49 gross, 37 net.

Again on the back, I started off well going with 4 bogeys and a double gross. I ran into a buzz saw on 14, I lost my drive left when it landed near or on the cart path and I couldn't find my ball. I didn't see it bounce sideways but it must have. I drove up and spent my 3 minutes looking for it and had to go back and hit another. 

I will say the highlight hole of my round was the 12th. It's the #1 handicap hole on the course, even though it's playing 448 from the silver tees. It goes uphill around 60 feet. I hit a good 6 iron to the start of the slope, hit a really good 7 iron to around 150 out and then bladed a 7 that rolled up to 30 feet. The putt had a lot of break left to right and I just hit it a little hard and rolled to 10 feet past. I ended up 3 putting, but was ecstatic I hit the green.

Overall, I shot 98 gross 73 net. 

It's amazing how well I've played without a full bag. I think it's motivated me to manage expectations and not flip out over a bad shot. I've often thought I need to have the mentality of playing bogey golf. Hit a bad drive on a par 4? Well, you have two more shots for a bogey golf green in regulation. It has honestly calmed my mind and made the game more enjoyable. 

As a side note, the Agera behaved a little better today. I had 35 total putts and showed better distance control on lags. I am a little disappointed I missed few first putts inside 6 feet so I need to work on those. I plugged my stats into a strokes gained putting calculator and lost .85 strokes against my putting handicap of 17. I need to clean up the shorter putts and we might be good.

 

Great round, @sirchunksalot  I totally get you playing up a bit since your longest club is a 6i. 6000 yards was pushing my comfort level having 3i and 4i. I was telling my son that I think we might just play that course with it only from now on just keep other parts of our game sharp. Or at least play it irons only on occasion.

But once you get to 110* it's just hot. 118* is too hot to be outside. I have leaned the heat is exponential over 110*. the difference between 107* and 110* is barely noticeable. The difference between 110* and 113* is very noticeable. And the difference between 113* and 116* is off the charts.

I have a convection oven so the circulating fan breeze wouldn't give me the same effect. At least it is electric, and my wife won't think I am trying to kill myself sticking my head in the oven with the pilot light out. That would suck. She would make sure I was in a padded cell on suicide watch and no golf clubs. Then ask for a window view looking out over a golf course just to make sure it drives me insane.

Well, it seems mother nature has other ideas about my mini golf round being played as we are currently getting another soaker, which for the first time in my life I am not upset about as we need all this rain! Supposed to storm on and off the rest of the day and throughout the night! Going to reschedule for tomorrow after work where the forecast is sunny and low 80s. The Supernova will have to wait to dominate the mini golf track..
