Here is my week 1 matchup round!

The winds were howling yesterday.  2 club differential sometimes 3.

 

It was still a remarkably good round considering that.

For Barbie's Birdie Bandits I played... Not great. It was my first time playing a proper feelings Links course. Local rule according to the starter was that the heather is treated as lateral relief for a stroke penalty if your ball is not found within 2 minutes. And wow did I spend a lot of time in the heather

However, it was an absolutely beautiful course and day. My partner shot her lowest score ever on a standard 18 hole course, I had some really good holes to match my really bad holes (BIRDIE ON THE FIRST LET'S GO!), and it was just super nice to be out on the course. I've learned I absolutely love links style courses, even if they're damn hard with the blind shots, the heather, and the brutal bunkers.

I played back on the whites, because they were actually rated for me  It was a lot of fun, though the fact that my swing just randomly crapped out for a while meant that those distances got pretty damn long at times. Knowing I was playing in a match play event really kept my spirits up through the bad holes, and allowed me to not worry too much about my overall score; every hole mattered, so I tried to not let it get to me. I also played a little more aggressive at times than I would have normally played without match play, and I definitely paid the price a couple of times for that. Overall, it was a wonderful day

 

Handicap: 23

Course Handicap: 30

Net Score: +40

Gross: +10

Proud to report @BrightFairways @MaxEntropy @WillRowland I represented Team Net Birdie well, recording a net birdie on 1/2 the holes on the course. The other 9 holes played left something to be desired, particularly 3-putting #9 and #18 to back my way into a 38-41 for +9 79.

What is a “net birdie”?  Is that a par on a hole where you you would have received a stroke?

That's correct. I suppose it could be a bogey on a hole you receive 2 strokes, technically, if the golfer has a high handicap it could be any gross score that equates to a birdie after the course handicap is applied to calculate the net score.

That is correct, Will - or if you birdie and get a stroke, that would be a net eagle.

Love seeing the cards here... you can also post your score (and pic of the scorecard) in the current week VCT thread.  There is even a custom field to select if you want to use this score in the Match Play.

Gary, can you give us a little more info... what is your course handicap?  Or, if you know your index, but not the course handicap, what is the course name and which tees did you play?  If the card shows the slope and rating somewhere on it, that would help as well.  Maybe your team Captain knows all this info.. @Ben Joest?  if so, let me and @Golf2Much know.

• You should post your round in the current week VCT Thread and select the custom field to indicate you want to use the round in the Match Play
• You can ALSO post your card here in the Match Play Thread along with messages to your teammates, and to your opponents  
• BE SURE to Include your hole by hole score (a picture of your scorecard works great)
• BE SURE to calculate your Course Handicap for the course and tees you are playing (using your handicap index - need help... contact your Team Captain, or me or @Golf2Much we can help  ).

Thanks for this. It will be my first time working handicap versus the course handicap so I will probably be reaching out after my Thursday round. 

One questions for now - What is teh VCT Thread and how do I find it?

Alright you jesters and hecklers, got my first round in ystrdy … an 85 with a course handicap of 15 at Crowfield Golf Club. 

Turns out the 1st hole was my only real good look at a birdie all afternoon. Made some Questionable Judgements on the 2nd hole for a triple. And even more annoyed to have a 3-putt from inside 10ft on my card as well. 

But all in all, I’m happy with how my round went.

I'm definitely torn.... I grew up in Washington State, and live in Houston... so.... The AL West is Awesome for me... and also Not so Awesome for me.  I'm pulling for my boys in Seattle at the moment.  But Altuve going back to back to back last night... how can you not love that?

I got your score on week one for the Match Play already.  You can post to either one.  I've tried to be diligent searching the scores on both threads.  You're all set for week one.

Go ahead and post your round in last week's thread... I'm a little behind in doing the recap for last week.  I'll get to it later today... but I think you can still post in last week's as long as you indicate the date.  If you can't, I'll post it for you.

I had NO DOUBT that Team Questionable Judgement would be among the first to be Locked and Loaded.. haha.  I think we should all be ducking for cover!!  I LOVE that you added "posted correctly" to your prize outline... that may just be the overwhelming qualifier right there lol.

After lugging about 1000 pounds of ice over beach and on my feet for seven hours at Key West's Brewfest (a great event for charity every Labor Day weekend), my hip made it difficult to play this week.  So, I'm on the short-term DL and Texas2KeyWest is going to the bull pen and tapping our official alternate @BNewton51 for week one.  Yes, knowing I had a busy few weeks ahead of me and the Atlantic basin hurricane season wasn't looking too promising, BNewton51 was signed on as our team's sub. 

I appreciate him stepping up and hopefully I'll be back for week two!
