Well... given the metrics to earn a spot in my bag, the Sycamore 009 Mini has earned a spot! I managed to post my second sub 36-putt round, something I've only done once in the past 3-months prior owning my Odyssey Eleven.

That’s awesome. I’m planning on getting on the course this week. Been working nights all week and it’s been cold/rainy all week. Should be upper 50s later this week. Glad to see you are liking the sub70. I agree it’s definitely different going from insert to no insert but the feel is still really good I’ve felt. I haven’t played on the course with mine yet but all my testing to this point I’m leaning towards it being in the bag.

@BallsLeongreat data collection. Is that provided by the course or a club collection data source? @Mr Orange I agree with you 100% on going from insert to a milled face. My @GolfSub70 004 mallet to me is a bit easier to hit on longer shots also. Not as much effort needed. One thing I like about the milled face it is very easy to clean grass and mud from the face.

@Dweed I am using the GHIN app to track my rounds, it’s pretty handy and I like seeing all the stats over time.

Hey all!

So I got out to play a round with my Sub 70 008 mallet this past Sunday. It was quite the adventure! You can read up on it here. As a result of this I was not able to capture stats on my round like I normally do.  @BallsLeon has shared superb data so far and I will be looking into this GHIN app more.

In any case, I did use the 008 quite a bit on some very SLOW greens that were soft because of the recent and intermittent rain bands that had come through over the previous 24 hours. These conditions were challenging to judge speed on. The 008 performed wonderfully though, with most of my lag putts being within 3 ft when I was 20 ft or further away.

On the shorter putts within 5ft i had no problem rolling the ball in with authority as the heavy putter head with two 10g weights in it easily jammed those in. As I got further away I had an easier time lining up thanks to the white/black contrasts, but those slower green conditions presented a challenge. While lags were generally makeable, I had several that I just couldn't get the speed right and they ended up short.

I wish i had more data to share at this point, but this weekend I have another on-course test session lined up. More to come!

Great job to @Dweed @BallsLeon@Mr Orange for their solid data gathering. 💪

Played a 9 hole round today. Didn’t have my best round of putting but I was hitting my lines and I had no 3 putts at all. I don’t think it would have made a difference if I was using my old putter for today. I had one putt that I did pull that I would have made if I didn’t pull it. Otherwise it was just a day of misreading the green or a matter of how hard to hit the ball. 17 putts on 9 holes is pretty much within range for what I can typically expect on 9 for typical day.

IMG_1313.jpeg.598171f74a0bd6fb791686f1a7e77502.jpeg

I took video on this hole with about a 25-30 ft putt. Hit it a bit hard and put it 5 ft past the hole. I was able to sink the 5 ft downhill bender for par after. You can mostly see the overall roll of the ball and the sound.

Oh and a couple pictures of the course cuz fall golf in Wisconsin is great for the colors.

Went out and played 18 today. It honestly did not go well. I shot what I would call a very ugly 90. I could not read a putt to save my life and had multiple 3 putts. I had overall 37 putts which is usually the high side of my range of putting outcomes. I do not attribute my poor putting today to the putter. There were some tricky pin locations today where if you missed you had a hard putt coming back. I had one putt I read so bad that I ended up 10 ft left of the hole. I read it as pretty straight with minimal right to left break. It was downhill and I hit the ball with perfect distance but it proceeded to break a solid 10 ft to the left. Got to my ball and then you could see the slope causing the break which oddly enough you could not see from the other angle. So that’s just how the day went lol. I did make several decent length putts including a nice 15 foot putt for par. I had a lot of tap in 2nd putts as well.

So while the numbers don’t look good today for the sub70 putter I will attest it was most certainly the one holding the putter today that was the problem. I consistently hit my line where I was aiming all day aside from one that I pulled. And of course it’s fall golf so I’ll include some photos.

I put the 20g weights on it for now. I like the heavier weight but would like to mess with more weight differences to see if it affects performance for me.

I think the weather has really worsened in my neck of the woods and I’m not sure I’ll be getting out to golf anymore this year. Will be working on updating my review fully this week.

OK, this question is for our friends and experts at @GolfSub70. As I've mentioned before I'm testing the Sub70 004 mallet putter. It was built with 15 g weights installed on the heel and toe end. Included with the putter came extra weights of 5, 10 and 20. I've done enough testing to discover that my miss from 9 feet out to 21 feet tends to be on the left side. So far my left miss happens 25% more compared to a right miss. I want to start to see if I can dial it in a little closer. My question is which weights should I begin with? Do I increase one or lessen one and if so which one should I start with? The heel or toe weight? Hoping you can provide a bit of advise to help save some time. Our time here before course closures is just around the corner. Compared to my OD, my left misses were only 10% greater than the right.

While I am not the person you directed the question too I’ll give you what I have learned.   Essentially you need to slow down the rate of rotation of the putter.  This can be accomplished by increasing overall weight and/or putting more weight on the toe side.   This is a generalization since some players may respond better by doing the complete opposite.

I have actually. I tried swapping both weights out with the other sizes, but i haven't mixed the toe/heel weight yet. I all of them just putting on the carpet in my house. I  think its all personal preference. My round on Saturday I used the 15g weights. The round before that I had the 10g weights in. I am trying to improve consistency of my putting stroke just like you, but so far I have not found much difference in the performance between those weights on the course besides just a slightly heavier feel. I will try mixing the weights up and see what that does.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate your insights, adjusting club weight is not something I've ever messed with before.

I had a thought to go lighter, thinking that would possibly slow myself down some. That being said after 6 rounds I'm definitely trending in the right direction (avg. 36.5 putts/round down from 38) and not sure I even need to mess with it and just practice more.

Thank you @cnosil. I appreciate the input. As @snoopy79 mentioned I've never had a putter with weights so your input is very appreciated. I'm not at all disappointed in the performance of the @GolfSub70 004 mallet at all. I am just trying to see if I can get better. I went out this afternoon for 9 holes. We had a heavy frost last night and greens didn't thaw until 11:00AM. So there was lots of heavy dew out there as well as mega amounts of worm hole mounds. Almost like putting in a bumper ball setup. Almost every putt had a rooster tail behind it, there was that much dew present. Even though the putting was challenging I still felt good about it. Shot a 38 with 2 birdies. Putting stat won't show it, but was within inches of making an eagle. So that birdie credit goes to the putter.  As @Mr Orangementioned, nasty winter weather is around the corner here in mid MI as well. Hoping to get out 1 maybeeeee 2 more times.

I was interested to read these reviews as I had a Sub70 mid-mallet 002 in my bag for a few years. II really liked (and believe my putting improved) due to the heavier head weight and loved the magnetic headcover. It's a small difference versus one with Velcro, but something I really liked having. When the magnet fell out due to wear and tear, I went online and chatted with a Sub70 rep about ordering a new headcover. He told me I had to call Sub70 Sales which I did... multiple times... and left multiple messages... which were never returned. This was my second time having issues with Sub70 customer service, so I have moved on from the Sub70 brand. I found a great deal on a new Scotty which works just as well, if not better, for me.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience, and it is interesting that the putter covers are not listed at all on their site.

As I mentioned in my first impressions, I did dock points for not receiving any shipping/tracking information for the putter, but was curious if this was just due to the atypical nature of the order.  I will say that all of my prior interactions with Sub 70 had been positive: used their demo program earlier in the year and had chatted with them about putter specs before this testing. They were always timely/helpful in their responses, but that all has been through their online chat function.

So, with that in mind (and an empty spot in my bag) I purchased an utility iron from Sub 70 after this testing started. I wanted the loft/lie adjusted beyond the options listed, and they added those notes to my order through the chat function. Received tracking information this time, and arrived eight days after purchase, success!
That being said, I think simply adding a "Notes/Comments" box on the orders page could simplify this process without having to engage their chat. Also, worth mentioning that notes given to chat will not appear on your invoice, but will be added to their internal fulfillment system which I believe is a different system. Definitely not dealbreakers for me, but figured it's worth mentioning.

@Dweed 😂 so far so good! It's hard to tell if I'm just in a honeymoon phase though since I've only had a couple rounds.

I'm really getting a hold of it off the tee, and it's a lot easier to hit off the turf than a wood. As far as feel, I'd put it right up there with the Titleist U505 I demoed originally.

I still need to verify my gapping between it (18°) and the 7-wood (22°  adj. +/- 1.5° ), I think they are probably close... but it's definitely a different looking shot.

Thanks for the message! An email definitely should have gone out with your putter tracking info but it's certainly possible that the system goofed up and it failed to send or that the message went into a spam/junk folder. Either way everyone should get their shipping confirmation with tracking information.

On the "Notes/Comments" idea...we've definitely kicked that idea around. We've even had loft/lie adjustment dropdowns on the product pages in the past. The problem is that it's relatively common for someone to miscommunicate what they are looking for. For example they ask for weak lofts when they meant strong, or upright lie angles vs flat, or they just accidentally select a loft/lie adjustment when they don't want one. The text box idea would work for the most part but would probably still require us to follow up with the customer to confirm things every now and then. I'll bring it up again and see if that might be doable

Thank you for taking that feedback into consideration! I hadn’t thought about the flip side of that, but that makes sense as well.

All minor complaints as I am loving the clubs, thanks again @GolfSub70!

Thank you @cnosil. I appreciate the input. As @snoopy79 mentioned I've never had a putter with weights so your input is very appreciated. I'm not at all disappointed in the performance of the @GolfSub70 004 mallet at all.

Have started to tinker a little with changing (lessening)the weights on the heel side first. First change resulted in positive results but not enough in my mind. Changed again and really happy with the results so far. Granted only have 60 putts and no course time to fully test. Temps dropping to 40's for the next week. Hope I can still get out or at least find a practice green open nearby. Old reliable had gone thru aeration but now they are set to close tomorrow for the season.

Temps are already in the 40s for me and they are talking snow in a few days already.

@Mr Orange things have changed quick around here too, supposed to play in a Halloween scramble Sunday. Guess I’ll layer up 😅

Edit: JK, just got an email that it's been cancelled

Pretty much how it’s been looking here. Cold and wet. Going to work on typing up the rest of my review.

Same here. But the weather is supposed to see-saw next couple weeks before settling in. I have a birthday round scheduled next Saturday so I’ll be looking to wrap up the review as well.

Gonna be simulator season soon!

Well we got 4 inches of snow yesterday so I’d say golf season is done in my neck of the woods. I’ll be finishing up my review by end of next week and getting it posted

Looking forward to reading it @Mr Orange. Meanwhile down here in SW Ohio we have sunny and 60 degree weekend approaching. Last one probably! I have a tee time this Saturday with my buddy and will be giving the 008 mallet another run around the greens. Review will be up next week!
