sirchunksalot
I got to play a new course to me today, Spring Lakes in GA. I went with a friend from work and one of his friends from school. The round started out terribly, I'm talking I almost walked off the golf course and gave up golf bad. I was hitting shots into water and trees like I didn't know what I was doing terrible. I had a 13 on a par 4. I've been proud of the leaps I've made in my mental game this past year, but on this hole... I was livid. I was able to calm down and enjoy the day with some great company. After the debacle on the first, I had another bag hole on the third. A par 3 over water where my tee shot was hit like a laser and almost skipped over but hit the rocks on the other side. I shot 57 on the front. I settled down on the back, starting with a par on the 10th. I started hitting decent drives, good irons, and occasionally good wedges. I struggled a bit when I was hitting chips close to the green. My putter was on fire, I made 4 or 5 putts over 15 feet. I also had issues with the par 5 holes on the course, but I'm not going to worry since it was my first time on the course. I scored well on the back shooting 49 to bring my overall score to 106. We've all had those days - been there many times, but then you have a great shot and that keeps you coming back. I played in our couples scramble today and for the most part my shots were mediocre. Then on the last 2 holes, my monster drive on a short par 4 came within 15' of the green (we got a birdie there) and the last hole, a 160 yd par 3 my drive came within 2' of the hole (birdie as well). There was enough energy off of both of those shots for me to sign up for Monday's game. Tom the Golf Nut
Just got home from my golf tournament. This was a big turnout 63 teams. 32 teams yesterday and 31 teams today. It was a fun outing especially playing together with my son. He hit a few monster drives today with the longest being 298 yards. Made some nice approach shots and putts. We didn’t win anything but we did make a 2 on a par 5. That’s a win in my book. We wound up in 10th place with a 12 under par. Really not that bad considering our fourth hasn’t picked up a club in 5 years. Our third was the assistant golf pro. She can hit the ball. Since she was a woman she was allowed to hit from the women’s tees. Totally awesome when she pounds it 220/230 yards. We raised so much money for children’s cancer. What a great event. Shankopotomous
We played in the last social tourney of the year today with the foursomes made up of 3 men and a woman. A Shamble format where all play out their own ball from the spot of the best drive and count the two best scores. SWMBO took both womens closest to the pin prizes with one of the shots being 32". We all got to hit from there and managed to get our 2 birdies! We took turns hitting great drives and always had a good look for an approach shot. We didnt putt great with a lot of birdie putts sliding by or coming up a roll or two short right in the center of the cup. But we didnt have to count a bogey all day in the scoring and ended up -11 for the two balls ending up in 2nd place. It was a fun day even though the wind was steady with at least a 2 club effect. My shot of the day was from 205 on a par5 into the wind, i played it at 235 and hit 3w. A low flight to lessen wind effect and it ended up pin high about 30', 2 putt for birdie! Rob Person
After work I hit the par3. Shot 39 iirc, didn't get a shot of the digital card before it reset. Also did a video of it. Then I had a buddy ask if we could squeeze out 9 holes. So off we went. By hole 6 he had lost 7 balls. I offered him some of mine in the bag, but he just decided to leave. I continued. I ended up playing 18 instead. I did a live on IG for the last hole. I don't usually add my score until the end of the round, but seeing as I HAD to say something, I added it up . I realized I needed par to shoot 84. Well I skulled my 50 yd wedge shot into a bunker. Got out high on the back side, putted for par, shorted the uphill speed, then 2 putted for double. Finished at 86. I'm beat! I did get to test 2 new to me wedges though. Both 58⁰. One is a taylormade Hi toe 12⁰ bounce. The other was a vokey sm6 10⁰ bounce. I hit that sm6 so well. I was consistent in landing 90-100 yds on full shots. I hit the TM about the same, but something just didn't feel right for me with it. The sm6 felt more natural. 3/4 shots were high and avg about 70 yards. FYI, with my 56⁰ stix wedge , I'm usually 85-90 yards on full shots. Maybe it's the steel vs graphite shaft making the difference ? Anyway, I have hours of video to edit and process from the par3 and also from the wedges test for the Bridgestone e series ball flight test I did today.
