Course Violence

Recommended Posts

I know this is a dark topic but i feel as if i have been seeing more posts on violence on the course whether its physical assault attempts or just verbal abuses. Is this a trend thats on the rise or is it a outcome of golf popularity?

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

MO, has nothing to do with golf but more the current state of society as a whole.

Have to agree here. Society these days seems to think that you can use violence to solve anything.

I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of alcohol consumed on the course. Seen my share of groups where drinking is the priority and golf is a distant second (or even third). Plenty of social media/content creators that lean heavily into this as well: Barstool, Bob Does Sports, DrunkByTheTurn, etc.

Im sure thats definitely a piece. I havent personally had any issues with people being over intoxicated but ive heard stories. Ive had issues people “just hit into them” type. Where we are slow cause a group infront of us is holding us up and the group behind feels as if its time for them to be course managers and start confrontations instead of letting the superintendents or rangers control the course.

Alcohol, ego’s or whatever, it is getting worse but typically worse in the more populated areas from what I see. More golfers, less courses, courses reducing the time between tee times just adds to the stress of impatient people.

People hitting into others thinking they are going to speed them up. The guy who hits the ball back at them or tosses it in the woods because he is pissed, and there you have it a brawl. I’ve seen it a few times and it never ends well. Seen a guy taken to jail for assault and driving a golf cart drunk.
It's sad to see that the few can ruin it for the many.

The days of golf being a gentlemen’s game is over. If you want the experience of the old days you have to cough up big bucks for a private course with strict rules.

Truthfully I miss being a member at a private club. Yes, there was always BS going on from some crotchety old grumps (The greens are too fast, the rough is too long, my burger is over cooked). But never the crap I see on public courses with over served golfers.

The sad part is you can tell how the day is going to be when you look back at the group behind you waiting on the first tee. I typically go over to them before the round and make small talk. They are less likely to be confrontational to someone they have met already.
Normally I play early morning. I always get the first tee time and I’m gone and nobody has ever caught up to me. Problem solved. (At least for my morning rounds)
