2024 TP5 Durability

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I was excited about the 2024 TP5 and picked up 8 dozen for the year after some trackman fittings for balls.  However, after about 15 rounds or so, I've really noticed these balls have no durability in the sand.  Seems like 2 sand shots and the covers get really destroyed.  I get pieces of the cover coming off like flaps.  Just wondering if anyone else has seen this with these new balls?

Cheers,

JJ

TM sent me a couple of sample packs of the new TP5 and TP5x. The TP5 was too spinny to be seriously considered, but the TP5x is a great ball performance-wise. If I were a tour player and didn't have to pay for them? I'd be very happy. But I was only getting 4-5 holes out of a ball before the cover was scuffing. Sometimes, even just a clean wedge strike from the fairway was enough to pull it out of play 😕

Agree the TP5 is soft and might not make it a full round but I stick with the TP5x and will go a full round no problem. Unless it hits a cart path, tree or something odd, I have not encountered any chunks missing or the such. After 18 holes yes I'll probably toss it or throw in the practice bin at home. I've been playing TP5x's for about 5 yrs.

... I have not played the TP5 but the '24 TP5x has been extremely durable for me. Desert courses are usually sand based and the luster of the ball can diminish over 18 holes. I have played several rounds with  TP5x and it still looked almost new after 18. That's good news for me because I love the performance. I do start every round with a new ball so my primary concern is durability for 18 holes.

I just went to a Taylor Made fitting and was given 4 of their new golf balls to try.  The fitter told me that one of the changes was a more durable cover.  I will play them soon and report back.

Interestingly, I tried a TP5 today for the first time in the hi-vis option. Which I've never done before just had a wild hare. I'm not sure what I expected but I felt like it could have held up a bit better. Maybe the white?

It was good to learn that these aren't it for me.

s***, not good

And they're very pricey too,  so would expect them to be a lot better.

I have been playing the 2024 TP5 and they are not as durable as the Srixon I was playing before but they have easily made it a full round, even on a round I hit a few trees. I have gone multiple rounds as well.

There is an entire testing thread for this year's TP5/5x still running. I'm one of the testers and I got the yellow version of the TP5. I am not having any durability issues, and the last few rounds I've hit my fair share of trees. But you can check out that thread from more details from the other testers.
